yes if you are too high you have 2 choices. 1. forward slip which is an advanced skill, or go around. 2. you could try cutting power to idle and watch air speed and make go around if it doesnt work out closer to the runway.
The shame of that is, it's amazing how easy it is to do & how much better things look, even in difficult conditions, after having had one or even two practice runs. There is nothing wrong with doing a go-around

I hear about many accidents that could have been prevented just by going around.

A little less airspeed Lift nose and flair nearer the numbers.
SLOW DOWN!!!!!. You floated forever. That is the airplane's way of telling you to fly an appropriate approach speed for your weight.
