Love separate bedrooms. We did this years ago because my husband retired but I was still working. It was the only way we could both get a good nights sleep. I needed quiet at night but he wanted the tv on long after he fell asleep. This way we each had our own personal space. I highly recommend this for couples with different sleep patterns. Also, I think you should cover your headboard in one of your favorite Boho colors.
My home renovations have never been guided by trends. I do what I personally like and what is in line with the style of the house and the geographical location. I may be subconsciously influenced by overall trends of the decade, just by looking at thousands of home design pictures, before-and-after stories, and design advice videos. I still like to watch trends out of interest.
We have always had our own bedrooms. Much better sleep for both of us. Every morning you greet your partner who didn't snore on you all night with joy.
I've been doing the separate bedroom thing for more than twenty years--I like to sleep!!! Who wants to wake up when he rolls over and pulls the blanket off you??? When he gets up at six to use the exercise equipment and turn the TV on? Sleep is good for you!!!
Ya I was thinking that too... I personally would rather opt for nothing above the bed than something to small or just not right. I LOVE my vintage bedframe and let that be the showcase, and I've always opted for nothing above the bed, but then dress up the night stands. For her, I think she could do a painting on each nightstand and keep above the bed clear. My suggestion.
I love grey…. My house is grey and many of my furniture are grey. It will always be a part of my design. It is a good color for every style….we had cool grey … griege and now taupe grey. I have charcoal couch and all colors work. Right now the taupe cream and earth colors look great. Thanks for sharing ❤
My first house purchased in 1980 had a primary bedroom with floor to ceiling red satin drapes covering one wall with the window, deep red pile carpet and black and white naked lady wallpaper. as soon as we took possession, that was changed out the first weekend. The adjoining bathroom had shiny silver foil wallpaper that was actually kitchen foil that had been applied with rubber cement, and a black toilet seat. It was crazy!
@@dsmith9796 the previous homeowner was so proud of it too. She told me how she'd seen the idea in some magazine of using foil with rubber cement instead of "expensive wallpaper". At least it peeled off easily.
I have never liked accent walls and I hope all gray interiors are forever gone. Gray reminds me of government institutions. Cherry red bedrooms are just repeating the cherry red dinning rooms of the 1990s. Love separate bedrooms and especially, bathrooms!
The apartment I’m renting has gray walls (Behr gentle rain eggshell) I can’t really change that but I do use your suggestion of using warn cream, and toasty colored pillow covers. One thing that works very well for me is to use warm colored light bulbs and the walls are then washed with warmth.
I'm keeping my accent walls! My home is small and simple and my accent wall is my pop of excitement in the home!! Forever Navy Blue is the color on my accent walls, and I feel like this ties all my rooms together. My main bathroom has Faintest Blue paint on the walls, no accent wall but still staying with a blue theme! Looking into doing some of the wood strips on wall in my hallway to give it some life.
Very nice video. I really like what you had to say about the new styles. When I was decorating my home about 24 years ago, I had two different interior designers not interior decorators. These were master level interior designers. This is what each one of them told me. Decorate with the colors and the styles and the furniture that you like. It doesn’t matter what is in style because the style changes every year. They also told me that I don’t need to change every year. So invest in good quality furniture, which will last you a lifetime therefore, you don’t have to keep changing. Now, of course, if you grow tired of your style and want to change, of course you can change whenever you want. One of one decorated in a style that I liked, which was the beach scene so we picked colors that was conducive to a beach scene along with furniture which had a beach vibe.
I make my own boho items and love them...When I make a design I use ivory mostly and add in pops of color...The key in decorating is not to have a home that screams boho in your face so I mixed my boho with nautical decor and colors .Fiber art is often missing from peoples walls and contemporary fiber art is nice too..Overdoing anything is never a good look anyway. Not sure if you've seen some of the fb boho groups but they are huge..Add ivory to every room in different ways as it not only brightens it gives the home a cohesive look..
Indeed. These designer trends make no sense in regular people's house, leave them for magazines and videos. Do what you like. I prefer minimalism and not all the pompous stuff they suggest.
I have to agree. Red walls is a hard no for me, but if someone loves the colour, I suppose a cozy throw blanket at the end of the bed in cherry red is fine. Can easily get rid of it when you are tired of the red, but to repaint red walls, jeez, that would be a nightmare!
Very difficult colour in a bedroom, in fact it’s often used in restaurants because of its instant wow factor which quickly turns oppressive and makes people want to leave relatively quickly!
My son painted his home office deep cherry red, and it is stunning! He works from home, so it makes his office energetic. He knows nothing about interior design, just picked the color because he liked it. But in a bedroom? I wouldn't do it.
Perfect color for someone who works alone in his office. Red is energizing, but can be too energizing where people are working together and can lead to conflicts. Your son has great instincts.
So I'm going Mineral Mist blue and Natural hessian walls,a beach grass mural to incorporate those coastal colours with white wood bed base. Rope and natural decor to feel "by the seashore" It might seem dated but it's clean lines and helps my anxiety as I love the beach/coastal area. Thoughts and comments appreciated 👏 please
Thank you for the trend updates. Many years ago, I had red in my bedroom, however I would not consider it now. It’s just not for me. As for separate bedrooms, the answer for me is no way. I love sharing a bed with my husband. We also have a nice size tv in there and go to bed early and watch many programs together.
I think the red trend is hideous! Besides it just being a short-lived trend, once you paint your walls and or trim red…when you wake up one morning after a short time and realize you actually don’t love it anymore, it’s much more costly to cover up red paint than most other colors.
I envision videos in the future of all these people who put texture and plaster on their walls trying to get it off. Or someone has to do a simple repair and can't match the texture. I think well done tasteful accent walls can be very pretty. It's not something I personally do, but I think well done.It can look really nice. I don't want marshmallowy, round puffy furniture. Just because somebody doesn't like a corner. I just don't understand why people get so caught up in these trends. It's almost like when I hear things like put fabric on the wall and add texture.I'm waiting for people to start coming back with stenciling and sponging. Do what you love. Avoid very serious trends. But if you have a taste for something just because a designer comes out and says I'm sorry that's out in 2025, no. Plus who has the money to redo everything just because designers decided it's out?
The one shot of the deep burgundy/raspberry red bedroom was very dramatic. I could do that one. The bright crayon ones are not calm enough to go to sleep. Too much energy for a quiet space. Trends come and go. You should only change things if you are tired of something and/or have extra money for it. Choose what you like to live with you may have to keep it forever.
I'm a designer in the Philly suburbs, and I've been talking curves for 2 years. Accent walls are horrible imo. Stick a fork in grey, it's totally done!
Never understood the need for sharp edges and angles - always tried to avoid. Sorry to say that, but your own bedroom looks quite uninspired (regardless of trends) compared to the tastefull examples you`re suggesting.
Practically i never think it is a good idea to have anything over the head of your bed..the possibility of it falling down on your head is always there......
Wait, I'm confused...so separate bedrooms are supposedly on the rise for couples because it allows for each person to decorate their room in their style....but then, according to you they still need to be "unified" through comments design elements!??🤔??!.....THEY ARE SEPARATE ROOMS. Very royal 😂
So easy to get rid of sharp edges and angles, I just take off my glasses. That gets rid of the dust, too!

It's your bedroom. Do what you like ❤
You cannot beat earthy colours when decorating for a home. This is a trend that will never go out of style.
I have Blue colors carried through my home but I love terracotta, shades of browns.. with pops of olive green, or mustard yellow or even orange!
Taupe, gray and beige are an elegant combination!
🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱
I agree

Fully on board with separate bedrooms. It has always been popular with royalty and the wealthy. Couple’s can always visit each other 😏

It was popular with royalty because they had "visitors" that accompanied them to their speakers bedrooms.
Great mattress, clean, quiet and DARK room at night are what I like

Boho is a way of life!

70's chic! 😂
I'm 69 and bought my first house in 89, it was a 1950s house. Your bedroom sounds far more awful than mine!!!
@ the foiled bathroom was literally kitchen foil applied with rubber cement!
@ , oh my gosh!! And I thought the "contact paper" used for wallpaper in my bathroom was bad. Kitchen foil takes the cake - you win!

Grey needed to go a long time ago.
I agree!
No red for me in bedroom !
I adore grey; always will
Happy gray is going away!
Upholstered headboards are what’s out.
I have a very nice fabric, headboard and footboard in my guest room that's gray, and I love it.
No red in my bedroom; and separate rooms for quality sleep, is a yes 😊

Red is a HORRIBLE color for a bedroom.

Red is bad Feng Shui!

I LOVE touches of red in my bedroom…just not a bright fire engine red.
YES to separate bedrooms! We did this last year and we both sleep much more soundly. So wish we'd have started years ago.
My happy color is pink. It makes me happy beyond words, that’s what I was going for and that’s what I got. Thanks for the video.
Red is awful for a bedroom
Blue makes u sleep good
Love my gray!
I’m going back to earth tones for my bedroom!

Cherry red is not going to stay for long
The one bedroom trend I wish would die is "I have a headache". :)

Rich deep green velvet for your headboard!

No to red. No to separate bedrooms. That’s the one place in a busy life that couples connect.
