All white kitchens are NOT practical! They are impossible to actually use & keep clean. Like open shelving, it only looks good in pictures, but are not livable.

My problem is, I have no other place to put my microwave, but over my stove.

Upholstered headboards are another air quality fail. If the fabric has been treated to be stain resistant, it's full of toxic chemicals that you really don't want anywhere on the same planet as you, but one of the worst possible places is right next to your face all night so you're inhaling that stuff while you sleep. And if it's not treated to be stain resistant, it's going to get filthy fast - which is why commercial manufacturers use treated fabric.

Oh wow. That's a record. The first thing everybody needs to know about bedrooms is that air quality is *critical* to everything else you're doing in a bedroom. So, please do not burn stuff in your bedroom! If you really want the aesthetic of candles in your bedroom, there are some really good battery LED candles being made these days. Put it inside a cute little translucent glass candle lantern and it will look charming, and you won't be breathing products of combustion in the space where you most need good air. You won't even need to worry about the cat knocking it over and burning your house down, which is a bonus.

I don't think open concept floor plans are going anywhere, but it's not something I want in my home. I would have found that appealing when my daughter was small, but she's 20 now, so I don't have a need for it. I'd rather not have my kitchen directly in sight of most things. That said, I do like a white kitchen and don't feel that's really going anywhere either; however, I like some color to avoid a boring, sterile look. I do have a square island in my mostly white kitchen and I love that. My backsplash has varied shades of navy (which goes with my navy island cabinets) and is being installed as I write this. 😊 Can't wait to see how that sets off my kitchen aesthetically! Best thing about not renovating to sell is that what I do to my interior is for me based on what I like as opposed to what's popular.

When you enter your new bedroom; you enter with pieces that you managed to keep when you were at your parents or found as you searched yard or garage sales. What about your walls? There are some Real Estate owners who welcome your creativity. As the stated; a small container of paint can make that bedroom luxurious. Don't forget about wallpaper! Do not like open floor plans . Many of my friends do not like it. They are putting up walls. ( builders like to open floor plans because it’s inexpensive )

Open concept is going away because any fire becomes a ranging fire in less time. Meaning you have less time to get out of your house. It used to be 9 minutes. Now its 3 before backdraft. That's what they're not telling you. Go with a larger kitchen, main bedroom and bath and embrace the smaller conversations that are more personal in each room.

Love the video! I have been decorating in this ecclectic way all my life! I just surround myself with things I lov. I am working on being more of a minimalist, however. I think the open floor plan only works if you are living in a small space. it was meant to create efficient spaces. it makes no sense in a giant house.

I love open concept homes. I will never ever put up wall paper in any of my homes ever again, as when you tire of the paper it's so difficult to eliminate. Also, not a fan of the entire saturated color in the rooms. I just don't follow trends I like classics.

Let's be honest. This new 'trend' is terrible! And why does no one make their bed? In a few years the 'trend' will be to say, "what were we thinking?" This is a fashion NO for me.

My all white kitchen has yellowed somewhat... maybe that's a good thing 🙂. But mainly to avoid that sterile look I add decor like wood utensils and woven containers along with blue and white dish towels and mugs. Also, I have some glass upper cabinet doors so one can see a variety of stacked dishes and my floor is tan and bone checkerboard on an angle. Not so boring.

I look at open floor plans vs defined spaces like I look at skirt lengths. There were periods in fashion when one skirt length was in style and another was kicked to the curb. I'm glad those days are gone. I think it's great to assess individual needs and choose which we prefer and which works for us, be it skirt length or floor plans. Same goes for colors.

I love the layout of my home: kitchen and family room are connected, and dining and sitting room are together in a separate area off the kitchen (so still convenient, but the mess and noise can be closed off when needed). We honestly use our dining and sitting room more than our family room, now that our kids are teenagers, since we still have family dinners. My husband enjoys the sitting room in the evenings after work and on weekend mornings; we have two comfortable chairs in front of our bay windows, and it’s an ideal spot for reading. I believe the reason that people tend to not use these more “formal” rooms is that they don’t put comfortable furniture in them, and don’t lay them out in a way that feels cozy. For the record, I absolutely loathe dining tables floating in between kitchen and family rooms. Even in an open concept, the dining room should be off to the side and have its own separate nook.

I would always pass on a home without open concept

And if the all white kitchen trend goes away, so am I! I don’t care if it is “passe”. We’ve just gone the warm, more moody look, and we loathe it. It’s too dark. We did warm, medium stained cabinets and counter tops with the warm color and dark charcoal. Not quite brown walls the designer suggested. And we hate it. We should never have gone with the new trend! We’re going to paint the walls as light as possible in a warm white, and maybe the cabinets. We don’t know yet how we’re going to fix it.

I’m thrilled that hopefully we will be going back to separate dining rooms! To me, a dining room that is open to the kitchen is just an eat-in kitchen that you cannot make very formal. Growing up, we always had an eat-in kitchen and then a separate dining room that would connect to the kitchen through a doorway or French doors. So truly separate rooms. Now, most new build homes have the “formal”” dining rooms just IN the kitchen. No way to hide the mess of cooking a big dinner, that’s for sure!

Wallpapering a whole room? No way! Not here in the US. I do like plain textured wallpaper that can be painted though. Beige,white and black isn't going anywhere and that includes the white kitchen. I do like wood accent pieces scattered around as in cutting boards and lids on glass containers but i could never do dark wood cabinets maybe a lighter cabinet would work. As usual your home is an extension of you so you do you and take all these suggestion as just that.

I’m sorry: having lived many years with tile floors and walls, I’ve learned the hard way that the smaller the tiles, the more grout lines there are to get dirty and need to be cleaned. Cleaning tile grout is a brutal nightmare ! So I would opt for any other options with less grout lines. Form should follow function! Thanks for listening

My favorite thing to put into a homeowner designed bathroom is a wall mounted toilet. Cleaning around a floor mounted toilet is the hardest and least rewarding job of maintaining a bathroom.
