My friend, it’s not them. It’s none of these developers, studios or even the ceos that purposely chose this push. It’s the very high up, that is being influenced by the very high up, that is being influenced by the very high up, who is being influenced by the government and investment firms who are aligned. People don’t realize how deep this crap goes. I just don’t think they realized how expensive it was going to be to push this. But it essentially hurts the economy and the people that’s why they don’t care. They have an endless supply of money. Maybe they’re doing it on purpose to crash the economy. Or maybe they weren’t but don’t care if it crashes.

Listen, if they really wanted to do this weird multiverse thing for the SS game, they needed to make it like Flashpoint. Make wild. Make it crazy. Make it insane. Not insecure Joker and Lady Freeze.
Edit: I'm just reading everyone's replies and just really thinking about this, why didn't they just lean into the multiverse from the start? I guess they didn't want spoilers. But they had to have read the room that no one wanted to see the Arkhamverse heroes die. Should've just leaned into the insanity of the multiverse from the start.
This is really the point I believe in. Like they had a multiverse and were lazy, like give us a joker looking like a mime or something. Freeze is changed to his wife or looks like an ice golem or something.

From start to finish, the publisher/developer of this game made absolutely zero effort to appeal to their fan base. I just finished Arkham Asylum and it was awesome, but i don't recognize the same company that made that game in Suicide Squad. They needed someone external to the company to come in and objectively tell them "this idea sucks" EARLY on in the project.

@@rodrigobogado8756 I tried to see if this was true and while some did leave, there were still a people who originally worked on Asylum, City and Knight on the team. Unfortunately, it looks like a case of hubris where the heads of Rocksteady did not believe that they could get it wrong.
Instead they had someone external to the company come in and tell them “here’s how you should make your game less appealing to your fanbase”

Yeah that what I was expecting before release. Loads of memes and videos ripping the game to shreds. But in the end we got very little of either. The game was just so bad it wasn't even worth making fun of...

Arkham Freeze is dead along with Nora (or it is HEAVILY implied he might have, up to you, I think he's dead), that was his DLC in Knight learning to let go and spend his days with his dying wife knowing that he could not save her and she just wanted to live out her final days with him and he choses to turn off his suit and die with her, it's a beautiful, tragic, and well written story that I can see people crying over, weather it be through personal experience or just knowing the story and understanding the message, hell even writing this and thinking about it makes me tear up
So that is why they got an alternate version of Victor and slapped some tits with a terrible haircut and outfit on them and called it a day, she is also not trying to save her dying husband, but her wife Nora and it is literally the same plot but with lesbians, which can work and be interesting but not with this game's writing (now this is what the leaks say so take this with a grain salt the size of Texas and if it is true they should have swapped roles and have it be Nora saving Victor)

The game typically shares zero story content aside from 2 cutscenes per season so of course if we’re gonna be stuck with something new at least make it good on the eyes.

Steller blade happened and people were relentless on forcing them to change the character appearence - they didnt and it ended up being a major success. not implying the sexy-ness is the reason, its because they refused to be pushed around by the haters and the rabid dogs that cant stand to look at attractive women in M rated games that arent made for 5 year olds
Case and point - if you wanna redesign an already established character or make a new one entirely to grab a specific audience, dont follow a trend or focus on the wrong demographic just for petty attention for the wrong reasons

This is definitely one of those ideas where they all thought it was great, even giggled a little at it. "Haha, Mrs. Freeze. It'll be fun." Just completely tone def and a lack of understanding to the fan base. Nora Freeze would have been more interesting. Killer Frost would have been better, heck Captain Cold would have been better. He actually uses guns!

It's hilarious. A few years ago I was against overly sexy female characters but now? I LOVE IT, it's like a switch flipped inside me and these awful bland ugly designs further cement my standpoint because it's still better than the "diverse" options the west constantly crap out

It's hilarious to think THIS is what Rocksteady thinks a new twist on a character is like. Joker's twist was just... being kinda young? And now we got Freeze-but-girl. Nothing else. No hook, no revamped lore. Just Freeze-but-girl.
Here's a idea (and Rocksteady you can have this one for free): Nora going thru the normal terminal illness /gets frozen stuff, only to wake up and find her husband Victor made her body sub-zero and put her in the freeze suit so she can still be his wife while he finds a cure. She objects to this horrible transformation done against her will and Victor imprisons Nora for being ungrateful. Eventually she learns her husbands tech and escapes with the freeze suit, vowing to one day kill Victor and freeze over Gotham so every can be as hopeless as she is.

They could of literally make Mr. Freeze the one who is sick and have Nora be the scientist villain... That would be a much better twist
The dumbest part to me is that they chose to keep Nora, Mr Freeze's wife, a woman. DC has done the multiverse gender swap thing before, but it's generally the case that all characters in that universe are gender swapped. For this, they chose to only swap Mr Freeze to a woman but keep Nora as a woman just so they can clumsily cram in a lesbian for some pride points.

My core issue with this is it's creatively bankrupt and lazy... You have a multiverse, and what you're doing is a gender swap of a known villain and the Jonkler? And icing on the cake is they've landed on this design? Basically a body builder wearing a snow suit with one scifi gubbin on the arm who looks like they are about to call the manager because the ski lifts are running 5 minutes late?
Female Freeze in a big suit could work. My issue is with the color of the suit. Red and white? Really?

What this company did was pretty impressive, they reeled in people with the concept and trailers and lost all of their player base in a few weeks and with their later updates made the remaining player base regret their purchase and loose all the trust they had for the company.

I'm Asian and I think it's kinda offensive that their take on an interesting variant/take on Mr. Freeze isn't "what if Nora was the one instead." or "the accident made him more ice monster than man" or something. Instead 'interesting' to them was make Freeze a woman, and make her Asian. Tells me how they perceive gender and race.
Imagine a fighting game collabing with Mortal Kombat and they're like:

Then they drop the trailer and it's Frost

What I would’ve pitched to Rocksteady:
Nemesis system, as Luke described, but with a twist. You customize and build your own goon, a non-powered shooter or melee character, and you choose which DC villain you want to fight for. You protect your territory, doing missions against other players who fight for their boss. Occasionally, Batman will appear in the main map and take you down. You are basically living IN Gotham during a gang war. Penguin gang, Mr Freeze gang, Two Face gang, Scarecrow Gang. Upgrades, raising your notoriety level by finishing missions, climbing the ranks in your empire.
That actually sounds really interesting

Batman vs cuthulu, court of owls, dark side war, Constantine city of demons.

Mrs. Freeze looks like a henchman for a more extravagant ice supervillain. KICK IT UP A NOTCH. This is supposedly the Arkhamverse, which has had other designs that weren't afraid to get a bit extravagant. I don't need her to wear a crop top and booty shorts, but damn, do something.

At least she'd have sexuality to make the blandness more palpable. but as is she's... nothing, she's not sexy she's not cool, she's not notable in any way other than her connection to a more well know character. I mean Mr. Freeze isn’t exactly attractive either, he’s a skinny blue bald guy in a suit. Realistically a female version shouldn’t be attractive either. They should have made her bald too.
I assume the issue here is that a lot of these plans were made and locked in prior to the game’s release. So rather than change course, they’re simply getting what’s left of the team to finish off what they’d already started.

Honestly after playing this game im not sure how they managed to commit the very same sins avengers did beat for beat. Good campaign and cutscenes with repeative missions. Terrible loot and a very shotty lackluster Battle pass with overpriced skins that aren't good. If they would have played avengers at least they could have avoided alot of this

I think this is also proof that this assets where done the same time as release but they just drip feed it through the years. Because otherwise they could have just changed the design based on the initial release reaction. But I guess its not about the money, its to send a message!!

Every now and then Luke puts out a video for a game that gets a new update or DLC and each time I remember that this game actually existed in the first place since they leave my brain so quickly. Starfield, Suicide Squad, Redfall, etc.
Honestly, the idea of a femme Freeze isn’t a bad one. It makes more sense if it’s Nora, but as long as the backstory is interesting, it’s fine.

The main problem is that we KNOW this game won’t put in the effort to the SS travel to a different reality and follow a unique storyline in which we follow this new character, learn about their interesting backstory, and at the end of a unique campaign the new character is unlocked as a playable character.
That is a game I would play, and maybe care about this Elseworld Freeze. Instead players will get a few reskinned missions to unlock a character that the game won’t make players care about. Just to play that character in more repetitive and uninspired missions.

The one thing I want to touch on is the "ice surfing" mechanic cited in the article.
The traversal mechanic NEEDS to be good because it is a core part of the gameplay loop, when it should have been a secondary mechanic to potentially build a character around.
I cannot give praise to their dev team for designing the new character's mechanic well, it would be like praising someone because that someone did their job correctly.
Its extremely difficult to make so many poor choices in a row given the amount of feedback and source material they have but Rocksteady continue to find a way
If they felt the need for a female villan with ice powers why not use Killer Frost instead of a gender swap of Mr Freeze?
