That’s what I was thinking too, I just moved from a very large house to a very small place( different county’s, different renting laws/policies🤷🏻♀️) and I was contemplating changing up my white furniture to darker ones but I was like 1, it’ll just look smaller, 2, I don’t want to spend my birthday vacation money on all new furniture.
Same as the walls or same as the floor. Blending with those colors will make the space seem larger/wider. A darker color will emphasise the new coverings ie make them stand out and be more noticeable. Darker ends up giving the illusion of a narrower space.
Dark only makes spaces feel larger when you color drench it, otherwise going dark will just create lines where there is still white and can make it feel smaller.
My bathroom is black and rust brown. It was horrible before the ceilings was painted but when the ceiling was painted black too it makes it seem eternal. I love it.
I’ve owned several houses with built-ins/millwork and you want to paint it the same color as the trim. Dark will definitely make it smaller. I would go with white or a fun color if you decide to paint the trim something other than white. These are so cool, I’m envious of your surprise storage!
Make one a storage bench with hidden storage behind, so sitting down to try on shoes, pull on socks or stockings or pants, will be easier, especially as you age or experience anything that might impact your mobility (e.g. an illness or injury.) It's always nice to have a beautiful, padded, place to sit in a dressing room. I'm thinking striped silk and the same cloth glued as wallpaper or wrapped as a padded well behind the bench. Good low sconces, too, for trundling back and forth to the bathroom as night.

Lighter colours make a room feel larger because natural light from the sun can reflect off of it and give a more airy and open feeling which makes the room appear to be bigger, whereas darker colours don't reflect daylight as much and make a room feel smaller

Dark colors will not reflect light, making the room always seem dark unless you flood the room with lights - which will cost more on the electric bill. If you like dark spaces, dark paint is fine. If you need a room to be bright enough to see well, go with light colors. Bright colors in a small space can be overwhelming. For example: The previous owners of our house painted a small bathroom an eye poppingly bright coral color that made everything in the room look coral colored from the reflected light and made the room seem small. We repainted in a light-medium blue, and the room looked much larger and the lighting seemed more soothing and less like you were being attacked. One of the bedrooms in our house was painted in dark green on bottom with a dark brown on the top with a wallpaper border across the middle. The room was twice the size of the bathroom, yet always looked small and dark even with two 100W lightbulbs. We repainted the top half of the room a coordinating tan color and removed one light bulb and the room looked larger and brighter than before.

Great idea! LOVE the rast chest, they are SO versatile. Why (what appears to be) the 3 different depths of the custom top boxes? Can we see an updated video of the entire space finished please???
dark in a small space often makes it even smller. Contrast it from the walls and the contrast will make for a more dynamic look though. Light will make it feel bigger but not as eyecatching. Id try for an in between with a rich brown to contrast the walls but not so dark that its heavy feeling
dark colors can add interest and showcase. I like the idea of going a darker color but I would keep the slats that color or stain them. I am not all one color kinda person. Varying colors can add depth and interest :)
I wouldn't make the shelves dark. That would make them seem bigger more imposing. Possibly you could paint the ceiling some kind of blue to make it feel bigger.
🙋🏽♀️Trust and believe go with a light color. Painting them white, bone white, or any white color with expensive-looking handles will give you an elegant feel and look. You can add an accent rug with white & tan to add warmth to your elegant, high-in look. Going dark will make it look smaller if you get the color wrong. Then you will have to put in some extra work painting over the wrong dark color. 💖🌟💖
If it is painted the same as the walls, it will make it look bigger. A contrasting paint will make it more busy and stand out.

It’s okay to refer to the main bedroom as the master bedroom. You don’t have to call it a “primary bedroom” just because some randos think calling it a master bedroom somehow comes from the days when people owner sl@ve$ (which still happens in other countries by the way).
I've heard the room referred to as the principal bedroom which might be more accurate. I do feel that "master" is a more masculine take on the room, in addition to other negative connotations. Change isn't something to be feared. We have to change if we are to grow.
Great idea! LOVE the rast chest, they are SO versatile. Why (what appears to be) the 3 different depths of the custom top boxes? Can we see an updated video of the entire space finished please???
I Love your creativity 💕
Yaaaassss Women in STEM ❤❤ slayyy
dark in a small space often makes it even smller. Contrast it from the walls and the contrast will make for a more dynamic look though. Light will make it feel bigger but not as eyecatching. Id try for an in between with a rich brown to contrast the walls but not so dark that its heavy feeling
That looks really good. Smart use of space.
This is fantastic, lucky, and talented:)
This is such an awesome idea! Love it cant wait to see the end results!
Dark makes a place seem smaller. Light makes it bigger.
Those Murphy cupboards are a fantastic idea, and look great. Thanks for the inspiration.
That is amazing! Great skill and great idea!
Yeah, I love it and I would go light in color. ❤
Dark paint definitely! Looks great!
Very very impressive! Really epicly excellent planning & design.
So clever and great skills!
dark colors can add interest and showcase. I like the idea of going a darker color but I would keep the slats that color or stain them. I am not all one color kinda person. Varying colors can add depth and interest :)
holy crap that is genius and adds functional storage onto hidden storage AND is a zillion times better than basic/weird curtains
You are absolutely amazing I’m loving it
Omg I am absolutely loving this!
Those curtains seem luxurious. Maybe take inspiration from the color, and if you want dark and moody, go for a gothic purple color palette.
AMAZING!! So cool & practical, too! Loved someone’s idea of making one space a movable “bench” in one space, too!
What a wonderful idea! Going to try and do the same in our older kids rooms!!!
Gorgeous work!
Super cool
Idea!!!! Love it!!! I think a darker color would look really nice against the white walls
I’d go light! In fact, I think you should just do some clear coat or something. I love the natural wood look!
Just show the process on the next ones. This is great!
What a fabulous job!
You did a great job girl!😄
I wouldn't make the shelves dark. That would make them seem bigger more imposing. Possibly you could paint the ceiling some kind of blue to make it feel bigger.
You did great job! 👏
That's actually a really clever and aesthetically pleasing solution.
What a beautiful hidden closet. Wow what a bonus. I would love to have that feature in my house.
Dark makes areas feel smaller. Lighter colors are brighter colors open it up to feel bigger.
It already looks pretty
Dark absorbs more light making it look smaller. I can't think of any situation where dark colors would make anything look larger.
You did a great job!
This is such a lovely idea!!!
Great idea...looks good 👍
I feel like nice harbor blue, battleship grey, or navy blue, would go nicely with the sable flooring.
