My favorite sea critter of all! Very nice vid, great color, light, and focus. I don't think they have a venomous bite, per se, but their flesh contains a very powerful toxin (same as in blue-ringed octopus).
It's things like this video that make me wonder, who can look at the utter beauty and mystery of our universe and our lives and say to themselves, "Perhaps a burning bush, a midnight ride on a flying horse or an image of Mother Mary on a piece of toast would give my life more meaning."
yeah, its the craziest of all cuttlefish.. tiny.. and the fact it walks on all fours. anyone else see the documentary on them? i can't remember what it was on, but they think that perhaps it walks on all fours to emulate or mock something else thats bigger and badder that dwells the bottom of the ocean. its not too hard to believe especially since they can change colour to adapt to their surroundings.. they are so impressive.
Aww, they're soo cute :) And amazing that they can change the colour like that, I saw one myself when I was diving, probably the most normal race of squids and octopussys, but still though :)
I think you need to check your eyes it's using those color abilities to not just change but create those flashing neon waves of light all over it. Cuttlefish are advanced in the color change department. They use their ability to hypnotize their prey into submission. I don't think either the octopus or the squid use it for anything more than defense.
Actually they found that the flesh of this cuttlefish is poisonous to eat rather than having a venomous bite. It was in the video "Kings of Camouflage" which I'm just trusting.
showing off and intimidating are two different concepts. choose your words carefully. And it's not a maybe. The cuttlefish they captured on film did use it's light show to hypnotize prey.
In the description you put Metasepia Pfefferi, which is right but wrong. That name is a scientific name, given to that species by scientists, which is used to help scientists categorize the species. The first word (Metasepia) is it's Genus name, while the second name (pfefferi) is it's Species name, which is supposed to be lower cased. Thank You...
While you're right, the first letter of the genus name is always capitalized and the species name is always entirely in lower case, you don't have a right to comment on technicalities like that online when you use "it's" instead of "its". Thank you, let the uploader enjoy the animal.
the 'pfeffers flamboyant cuttlefish' is the only one i think. but prob a good job, because it is one of the most poisonous animals known to man! but amazing creatures though
why would they show off to other males? Granted I admit I was talking about cuttlefish in general when I said they use their flashing colors to hypnotize prey. Theres even a clip of National Geographic documentary on their website of one doing it.
Such a wicked fish :). Looks like the watchmen mask lol! Also where the he'll is it's eyes then? And I just watched it today. It's funny how the have sex rofl.
These cuttlefish are extremely toxic. Probably illegal to own one and having a proper aquarium set up can be very expensive. There is a popular species that you can look into known as Sepia Bandensis. Common cuttlefish species among expert salt water aquarist.
I love how it walks around!
Beautiful nature and great vídeo...congratulations
These creatures are absolutely beautiful when you see them close up. I remember catching a glimpse of one in New Guinea, absolutely spectacular :-)
Awesome video, this is one of the cutest sea creatures ever!
it's so cute that it's walking instead of swimming :D the only poisoned cuttlefish

That's just one of his Larval stages. Give it time.

Priscilla Queen of the Ocean
Don't you guys know a Zerg drone when you see one?
whats the music?
it's like two inches long. . .
Not too much, its saliva is non toxic and its about as big as your thumb. The flesh is poisonous however.
why would they show off to other males? Granted I admit I was talking about cuttlefish in general when I said they use their flashing colors to hypnotize prey. Theres even a clip of National Geographic documentary on their website of one doing it.
wats the melody?
Flamboyant cuttlefish are very small. It wouldn't be able to eat our arms off.
HOLY.FUCKING.SHIT
this thing is magical
I don't think a cuttlefish would bite anyone.
cutethulu!
yep. It'd taste totally different. Somewhere closer to the taste of imminent death, given that it's as poisonous as a blue ring octopus.
I embedded your video in our blog. If you'd like me to link to a website let me know.

Great film, annoying and unimaginative soundtrack.
Would be better with no sound at all rather than this robot non-music.
Cute... until it grabs onto your head and sucks out your brain.
