    Are you FOR or AGAINST technological advancements like this? WHY?!
    Personally, I see zero reason to be against stuff like this... It's there if you want it, no ones forcing it on you if you don't. But for sake of conversation... I figured I'd pose the question anyway.

      @@glennkirste2774 yes I am... As far as wifi, there is zero credible scientific evidence that it is bad for your health. As far as the radio waves that Wifi uses, they aren't strong enough to cause damage. They aren't even as strong a frequency as visible light, and much farther from UV light (which can cause damage).

Im sure this would be great for you or others that want to watch themselves or others surf so they can perfect there craft. I know this is an additional resource for you to use but I love the shots you and your filmers get that the beach cams will never be able to match! Technology always amazes me ... ive actually called friends while at the beach to tell them to look on obx cams to see me live.. shouldn't have admitted that lol! In all seriousness you could post videos using an old camcorder in black and white with no sound and I would still tune in.. your videos are that good! 🤙

    2. I don't have an iPhone and have no intention of getting one since I don't like them, I do have a fairly new apple Macbook air. Will the watch be able to sync with the computer as it would the phone? If so, I could buy a garmin watch.

  • @Dthraco

    Been using it with the Rip Curl watch and really like the Sessions app.
    Question: I see you are using the Apple Watch. I only issue I have with the Rip Curl watch is that it only works if I keep the watch near the surface. So unless I am riding a bigger board, I have to remember to keep my arm out of the water so the watch doesn’t loose it’s GPS connection. Once it loses the GPS connection, it doesn’t track my waves till it re-syncs with the GPS sattelites. Makes sense, but it’s a bit humbug. Do you experience the same with the Apple Watch?
    Love your channel. Coffee lover myself, seeing your espresso machine I was like, I knew I liked this guy!

    • @brettbarley
      @brettbarley  4 года назад +1

      I've never noticed an issue as far as losing GPS or anything... I KNOW gps can't transmit through water, but your arm is constantly coming above the surface paddling, and especially on the wave, so I'm not sure it would cause any issues with saving the data for the app to dissect. BUT, maybe apple has their watch more dialed as far as dealing with the constant GPS disconnect/reconnect.

    • @Dthraco
      @Dthraco 4 года назад

      Brett Barley Thanks. I bet your are right. The Rip Curl watch takes about 15-20 seconds or so to resync, and if you are already on a wave, it doesn’t count it. I bet the Apple Watch doesn’t suffer from that issue. But thanks, now I have a good reason to upgrade my Series 1 watch! (And hunt down that band you recommended)

    • @krusher74
      @krusher74 4 года назад +3

      I've never noticed this on my ripcurl watch, but i dont sit with my hands underwater because the water i surf in is cold. If a wave is very short sometimes it misses it, I have had take off to barrel to kick straight out and its missed it.

    Should I use the apple watch under or over the wetsuit?

    • @brettbarley
      @brettbarley  4 года назад

      It works great under the wetsuit... BUT I THINK you might get less false readings if you wore it over the wetsuit. I used it underneath my top or wetsuit every session though, and it worked fine... though at pipeline I got more false readings than anywhere else for some reason.

    I use Surfline Sessions on my Apple Watch, but it’s buggy enough that I’ve stopped relying on it to provide accurate info for my sessions.
    Oftentimes it’ll show that I rode significantly more waves than I actually did. It is catching lots of false readings.
    Also I surf in front of a lot of breaks with webcams that alternate focus between different parts of the beach so it’s really common that for a ride I won’t see myself in any video footage or really far away footage of what I can guess is me. This is especially problematic when it’s crowded.

    • @brettbarley
      @brettbarley  4 года назад

      Do you wear it under a wetsuit?

    • @WillBulldozer
      @WillBulldozer 4 года назад

      Yeah I wear it under the wetsuit. I’m paranoid of losing my watch even with the UAG strap!

    • @brettbarley
      @brettbarley  4 года назад

      Oh I don’t blame ya. I do the same thing. But I’ve dealt with tech like this before with SoloShot, and if there isn’t a clear view of the sky, it doesn’t work as well.
      I only had a bunch of false reads when surfing pipeline, of when paddling in a lot of current at home. But all those times I had wetsuit top, or full wetsuit, on.
      The main thing is, I’ve used it with a short arm, so it wasn’t under wetsuit and it didn’t have a single false read... Had same results last time I used it when I put watch over my 5/4 and gloves...
      So it’s the wetsuit that’s the problem. BUT sifting through the false reads is so simple... it’s not like they are an issue anyway.

    • @WillBulldozer
      @WillBulldozer 4 года назад

      Thanks for the tips. I had a sinking feeling that my wetsuit was really obstructing the GPS signal and causing a lot of false readings, but like you said, it’s not that big deal to sort through the false readings. Though, I do get pretty excited to see that I caught all these waves... only to get my hopes dashed!
      I just got the SOLOSHOT. How have you been able to secure the tracker to your arm? I’m looking into getting a floaty and attaching it to the tracker for extra peace of mind.

    • @brettbarley

      haha no I haven't... coffee shops aren't exactly a common thing in my neck of the woods, especially prior to the last 5-10years. I've gotten decent at steaming the milk, in just the few weeks I've been doing it. it's more getting the ratio right, so I can draw a proper design, but not put too much milk in... In 100% honesty, I hadn't even attempted to draw anything or look up tutorials on it till yesterday (which is after I shot the video).
