      Can you agree that we mirror the world we live in?
      Why would our gender opposites represent such a big part of our world?
      Because to be successful biological beings we have to reproduce.
      Our acceptance in society, our prosperity depends so much on the opposite to our sex.
      What we understand in general is a reflection to everything that's external.
      You could argue that a pet has as much importance in your life as anyone else in your entourage.
      Do you then say that there is a part of you that is a dog, a hamster, a cobra, a rat, a cat...?
      I would say, that's simply a reflection of what is external to you.
      And your position relative to the opposite sex is important.
      Your perception of men as an archetype exists in you.
      It's what you think around.
      It's what you negotiate with when you choose your connections with others and the dynamics of your relationships.
      How you understand the expectations of others.
      It's all that... it's not a stupid black and white Yin&Yang structure.
      It's you, understanding yourself relative to a huge world you only control a perception of.

    • @ramonmateo4385
      @ramonmateo4385 2 года назад

      @@technofeeliak can you agree that you you are only seeing the world in terms of separation between what is you and what is not you? You must agree that this lens of perception heavily colors the hypothesis that you espouse here. Of course then on some level the dog or the cat or whatever it is is a part of you as soon as your perception of self becomes big enough to encompass it isn't it true? If you have a project you work on for many years and put so much of yourself into it and then I come along and stomp it down to the ground you would feel pain in your heart the same as if I had trampled it?
      So yes it is about how we relate to the world around us but everything is about how anything relates to anything. It is a condition of being a conscious being. How is it you can talk about anything in the world without first understanding how you relate to it?
      So what is your point then?

    This is so true. In my culture the greatest enlightened person/God is depicted half woman-half man. That shows he has perfectly balanced his masculinity and femininity, making him a complete being. Great explanation though.

    For what it’s worth, I think you’ve done a great job at explaining the Jungian perspective. It’s a shame so many ppl seem to get hung up on PC and SJW stuff. I think you’re extremely balanced in your approach and compassionate toward those who may not fall “neatly” into any of the Jungian archetypes / systems. I just wanted to let you know because allot of what I’m reading in this thread is negative and highly critical. Power to you for being so articulate and courageous!

      Thank you! I appreciate it. I think a lot of people find my videos through Jordan Peterson, because I show up on his related videos section. My videos show up there because we both use aspects of the Jungian framework. But our views are polar opposites in many ways. And because his views are very traditional in nature, I get a lot of people on here looking for a similar perspective to Peterson's and they sometimes end up disappointed. This is because my views are not very traditional. I embrace the changes that are coming to society, and I see many of them as very positive. I'm optimistic about the future. So, when I tailored the video at the very beginning to also accommodate members of the LGBT community or other exceptions to the 'rules' of masculinity and femininity, I've sometimes gotten one of two reactions from his viewers. One is of general indifference to the LGBT community, but they think I'm being "PC" or doing "identity politics" or politicizing things something like that. The other is one of non-acceptance to the entire concept that people can have nuances in masculinity and femininity, and they see any person who does have a non-traditional masculine/feminine ratio as degenerate or weird in some way. But I am not being political at all. I'm simply tailoring my videos to the realities that I've experienced for the sake of being thorough and comprehensive. It's just that many people see anything to do with the LGBT community as automatically political, despite the fact that it's just another aspect of reality to be acknowledged. And it's easier to wave something off as "identity politics" and write off its significance than actually considering the individual reality that gives way to the fact that so many LGBT issues are on the political chopping block right now. So, in the words of Carl Jung, "Thinking is difficult, that's why most people judge." Thank you again for your support! :)

      The Diamond Net I am a little disappointed that others seem to dismiss your points due to the incorporatiion of LGBT into the Jungian anima/animus model. Honestly, their incorporation doesn't even alter the model. I am a big fan of Peterson as much of his teachings have placed me on a path of personal reflection and growth, mainly in the area of adopting responsibility for my well-being. However, when learning something that is new and complex, like Jung, I want to take in different perspectives. Thank you for providing that in a clear, thoughtful way. Your explanation of the shadow and anima/animus possession really helped me gain a deeper understanding of Jungian psychology. Please keep creating this quality content. The world needs it more than ever 👍

      That description of Yin and Yang traits (9:56) is itself strongly polarized. The Yang is by no means more external and Yin more internal. Take a look at "Levels of Animus" in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anima_and_animus
      Major internal male qualities are: steadfastness, loyalty, courage, perseverance, one-pointedness, neutral inner observance.
      Major external female qualities are: beauty, grace, softness, aesthetic sense, sense of touch, nurturance.

      You’re welcome. I try to mold it to my experience of being someone who doesn’t fit very neatly with gender roles... as I’ve had huge issues with feminine repression and anima repression in the past. Also, I think Jung would have considered the realities of transfolk and other gender non-conforming people in his theories had he been living in an era where collective consciousness was aware of those realities. It would be very non-rigorous if he didn’t as ignoring a reality is not very scientific.

    Thanks for explaining this very concisely and also providing some of your own interpretation on some of it. It's a topic I've been reading up on a fair bit lately, so trying to get as much understanding of it as possible from various sources.
    Interestingly, I read in a number of places that 1st stage of anima in a man is more to do with expectation of a motherly role. Eve being more of a symbol of motherhood, and men who hadn't had a healthy relationship with their biological mother tend to be stuck in this phase and seek motherly qualities in a woman so that she would nurture him. These kind of men are usually quite emotionally immature and childish. Whereas the 2nd stage was more to do with a woman being an object of sex and pleasure (Helen being a symbol of physical beauty), and men at this stage tend to be players who flirt a lot and hop from one relationship to another and are unable to have a long-term relationship due to failing to see women as individuals. What do you think about this? I notice this is a little bit different to how you described the first two stages of the anima development.

    Just what I needed to hear this morning as "understanding anime/animus" seems to be the next life lesson "the universe" is putting in front of me as I continue to work my way out of my own inherited, and personally constructed, "Plato's Cave." Studying with a brillant life coach, however, I have also come to believe in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of the human psyche, so in the part of the video where you talk about "emotions" I wished this were a live session and I could have asked you if you believe (as I have come to) that "emotions" (and worldviews, limiting beliefs) are not stand-alone things, they are sets of things that are associated with our sub-personalities, and when those are activated (triggered) they "flood our conscious mind" (and, if super-traumatized, can completely take over) and bring their worldviews, limiting beliefs, and "emotional states" with them.

    A little note on "masculine social expectations"
    The existence of those is completely organic and useful, because "achieving masculinity" has incredible motivational power behind it. Masculinity is a goal. And these tropes exist because it's been mostly men who have done rough, dangerous shit so far. Read "the old man and the sea" by ernest hemingway for more context

    ooohh.. I always kind of struggled to apply the animus / anima archetype because I dont fall in a traditional feminine nor masculine expression, but definitely feel a stronger pull towards the masculine internally. And therefore because I read some Jung and wasnt sure how to apply it to my gender expression and kept looking out for an Animus that wasnt really there because I was expressing as Animus. This is literally the first time I hear a modern take on it that makes so much sense and that its always about the opposite and integrating that rather than the opposite of the gender you were assigned at birth. This is like really much clearer now and makes it much more applicable. Needed this, thank you!

    Awesome videos! I was hunting for good explanations of Jung's ideas, and you nailed it. Thank you! Now I'm watching your other videos - you've got a lot of great stuff to say, thank you!
    I have a video idea for you, I'd absolutely love to hear your take on how the Anima works for homosexuals. I'm gay, and while listening to you explain these concepts, they come across as dated, with their views of gender. Which makes sense! So I'd love to hear your thoughts on the amima/animus through our current views of gender, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on how this may be different for people who are queer, or who may be more gender fluid. It's a huge ask, I know!
    If you can't, no biggie, I still want to say you rock and thank you!

      they are ancient greek words and they mean specific things: (unfortunately I cannot write them with their correct intonation, but here they are and what they mean)
      έρως: (eros) interest (or more literally deep desire)
      λόγος: (logos) quite literally means logic
      both of these words have interesting possible roots, but the way Jung used them was to indicate something that is mentioned in his work, in an example he gives about Edward Maitland's experience of God : "This was … God as
      the Lord, proving by His duality that God is Substance as well as Force, Love as well as Will, feminine as well as masculine, Mother as well as Father."
      I believe this kind of sums it up perfectly.

    The best down to earth and genuine presentation I have found! For me it is always very amazing how new things manifest when we let go of expectations. I remember how 4 years I got in touch with the works of Jung through an artistic project. I realised what a strong grip my anima had (and still sometimes has) and how strongly I was seeking to become whole with a partner, the things I was projecting were already there and are waiting to be integrated, hidden in the shadow. These inner transformations, that were also painful, opened up a beautiful path and my outer world shifted completely!

    Great video! Do you have anything about the so-called 'mid-life' crisis, which Jung seems to suggest that it is the journey of letting go of the persona to find the true self. I may confuse this a bit, but am trying to understand how this could explain a bit more the dynamics of my marriage which is now ended this year. I need to rise from these ashes, and I sense a strong pull toward exploring this whole individuation thing. Thank you!

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад +3

      I don't have any videos on the mid-life shift that Jung speaks about directly. You could say that most of my videos relate back to that move inward that he speaks of though. But I am familiar with the way he says that it works. He says that for the first half of life, you make yourself into a very particular individual and create a strong ego through individuation. So, you sort of create your identity and all its particulars. Then, at around 40 years old, you turn inward and start working on letting go and transcending the ego that you've created through shadow work and inner awareness of the Self. So, individuation and transcendence are in many ways, opposites. But both are also necessary for a deep and complete experience of your humanity.

    I really enjoyed your video and insight, thank you so much. A lot of my friends think that I am not a normal girl, as I do embrace both sides of masculinity and feminity or not as girly or emotional.
    I am currently working on my animas- assertiveness but I think I should be more accepting of my anima side as well. There are far too many bad connotations and labels on women , feminity, on top of that drama queens in my life. So I tend to repress my feminity, but I am still very caring and considerate , but often people judge me by my appearance thinking I'm this innocent sweet girl or sex object.
    I want to grow as a person, and reach my full potential and not let others define me with labels or conceptions , explore what I really want and seek to become. Thanks!

Sometimes people perceive me as a mum. I dislike to project this image. In the other hand, the men I have dated in a few occasions have been perceived as boys and they dislike this perception. This is a subject that interest me as it will help me to understand some aspects of my unconscious mind and have tools to improve myself. My choices will also improve to be more assertive in my relationships.

      i think thisnis vers common for two reasons. one - females were viewed and often times still sre as subordinate, less worthy than men, hence the acceptance of either type. two - i think the power shift between anima and animus also reflect the power struggle between our parents which relates to one, butnis more personal.
      so, animus is cooler, but at the same time, especially presentationwise, its easier and has advantages for females. so there seems to be a split between the animustic and animastic anima, if you get what i mean.

    • @Lifesizemortal

      the alpha/beta concept is rooted in the machismo perception. It is proposed unfairly and in favor of the macho male in order to place dominance and hierarchy above other men who are not so outwardly macho. It's a false sense of entitlement masquerading as goodness, or correctness in regards to how a man should carry himself: through unnecessary confrontation and seizing power through force, rather than respect. Machismo is innately evil. The "Chad" or "Alpha" is defined by his passive ability to have little conviction for his own actions, where he gains an increasing sense of self importance. Men who exemplify narcissistic behavior are usually the most dangerous because of this combination of seeking power through force, and lacking the conviction to know if and when they're wrong. A typical "Chad" feature is being oblivious to the world around themselves, so they simply don't observe that other people are irritated by their unfounded confidence and sense of self-entitlement.

      Very possibly, amongst chimpanzees the alpha is usually the most affectionate male; even matching the affection of the most affectionate females I believe (with affection being a common trait associated with femininity)?As just one of many examples of one of the feminine aspects integrated within an alpha male. At least of the most component and revered alphas amongst chimpanzees; which I'd argue are true alpha males being tyrannical alphas typically become overthrown.

    • @spookyr
      @spookyr 6 лет назад +3

      There is a brilliant Jungian named Jordan Peterson. One super useful thing he teaches is to listen to everyone as if you already know they can teach you something,of value, and your mission is to not be sidetracked by getting hung up on either believing or disagreeing with the stuff you can't use. This is like a Magic Translator when talking to New Agish people. New Age creativity is a goldmine when you can use critical thinking to remove the mud.

    • @gkelly9448
      @gkelly9448 6 лет назад

    • @gkelly9448
      @gkelly9448 6 лет назад +1

      Because I know the spirit of New Age, there is nothing new about it at all. Its as old as the archetypes that Peterson speaks of. Its the idea that we are one with God, that we are God and that we are as everything devine as the energy in the universe. In the end death contradicts that. You can only listen to someone if they are giving insight or new ideas, not rehashing the current ones, let alone old ones.

    • @imaginaryuniverse632
      @imaginaryuniverse632 6 лет назад +2

      How do you know if they are giving insight without listening first? "New Age" is a label without any specific meaning just as death is. It's our responsibility to rehash the Truth for those who will listen for it. Only lies can be made new the Truth is always the same. The Spirit is always guiding us to the Truth. The mind looks for and finds reasons to dismiss it but the real Truth can only be found inside when the mind and body are still. If you are interested in finding the Truth, try making yourself comfortable sitting or lying down. Close your eyes and take an inventory of each area of the body allowing all tension to relax. When you are well relaxed, focus on your breathing in order to slow your thoughts. Don't worry that you will still have thoughts, just observe them without becoming involved with them. Try to see them as they without emotional attachment just watch them as they come and go. Soon you may begin to realize that many of them aren't even your own but have been given to you by Society's expectations and you might begin to ask yourself who is it that is observing. Spoiler alert, the observer is you. With practice and sometimes without, the thoughts will stop. This will mark the end of one journey (death) and the beginning of another (resurrection). The story of Jesus is one of unconditional Love and forgiveness, these are the key to the kingdom of God and the kingdom itself. Jesus said, I am the way, the Truth and the Life. The way is Love, the Truth is Love and the Life is Love. The only death that exists in reality is the absence of Love.

    To all the Jordan Peterson fans out there that seem to keep showing up in The Diamond Net's comments sections, I would just like to say that Jordan himself is an advocate of the LGBT and sjw rights community that he criticizes. He is however, not an advocate of compelled speech or half-ass law making that hurts the people that it's supposed to help. Jordan's problem with Bill c-16 etc. (which is what everyone keeps hearing about) stems from its lack of scientificness, as well as it's contradictory language and demand for compelled speech. Similarly, his problems with the sjw's and postmodern leftwing nutjobs lie solely with their lack of scientificness as well as their contradictory language.
    ... In other words, all I'm trying to say is that the politics many of you have immersed yourself in from other videos, have nothing to do with the truth of the matters relating to the LGBT community. The politics are simply politics, as usual, and as always they have clouded everyone's judgement.
    If you people, my fellow Jordan fans, want to circlejerk about Jordan, please just leave this channel and its videos out of it. If however, you really wanted to just tack on a little bit more about your understanding of Jungian ideas, and it's interaction with people like the creator of this video, watch the video all the way through and use your facking head.
    I personally really liked this video, and although I do not accept anything I hear on the youtube as fact, or even what I have heard from Jung himself, there is much insight to be gleamed, just from the imaginative stimulation alone that such a video as this one provides. Cheers everyone and thanks for these videos Diamond Net!

      I find that this issue is a big issue for most people in society to some degree or another. We have a lot of distorted ideas about gender and how people should feel, act, or be based on their gender. Then, there is also a strong Yang preference at the expense of Yin. So, these two factors in combination put a lot of pressure on people to bend themselves out of shape and deny certain aspects of their reality.

    Generally a good video but the advice for men was a bit naive. My advice to men as a man myself would be to avoid single mothers as partners because of the legal risk. Should te relationship end the man could easily find himself the "legal father" even though he is not the actual father of the child. A child support land mine that could end up costing 6 figures over a period of a couple of decades. It is absolutely insane to date a single mother.
    The other suggestion was to date older women. I doubt this is going to get traction. Biologically and at an unconscious level the man is looking for reproductive potential even if consciously he does not want to reproduce. Biological factors into mate selection in spite of our rational selves. That's why we find some people attractive at first sight. An older woman instantly transmits less fecundity. It would be like asking a woman to consider dating a 93 pound weakling. It aint going to happen.
    Those women a man might turn away from may be for good reasons. The man's intuition may be on the ball.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад +29

      I think you misunderstand the advice in my video. I'm not giving dating or relationship advice. There are plenty other videos about that. I didn't suggest dating older women, but spending time with women outside the norm range you would date (younger and older), so that you come to see them as full people without the interference of the sexual drive which tends to give tunnel vision toward the opposite gender. This, on an unconscious level effects how you come to see yourself as well as your psychological wholeness. The advice in my video is meant to be applied internally to make yourself psychologically whole by integrating the contrapositive side... in your case, your feminine side. It's about creating a connection to the unconscious mind and the Self through developing both your masculine and feminine potentials.

      I don't what you were listening to. Do you listen to something and hear something completely different to what been said? Your interpretation of what she said is completely invented in your own hear. When did she say to date older women ? You didn't even understand the basic context of what she was saying

      I personally find a more reliable source is to look at the woman's family and relationship with her parents. If she grew up in a loving home and her father and mother are on good terms, she likely would have healthy relationship with them and her animus would be developing well (even if she is fairly young). By contrast, a woman who has had a fragmented family or poor relationship with her parents, especially her father, is likely going to become possessed by the animus and is bad news as a romantic partner. With a lack of protector (father) in the family, she likely looks to her animus to fill that role and is going to be stuck in the 1st stage of its development.

      I am bisexual, so it is natural that I would need to make sure that my understandings of certain concepts have consistency with my experience of reality. I am also a woman who has struggled with feminine repression for a large chunk of my life, and masculine repression for a small chunk of my life. So, to you, these topics are simply political and words like LGBT probably sound like PC buzzwords. For me, it is actually a major part of my human experience. So, my perspective must have integrity with my experiences if they are going to be worth sharing. So, the intent is not to be political but instead to be honest, thorough, and consistent. It's unfortunate that these aspects of life have become politicized to the extent that it's difficult to talk about them without seeming politically divisive. But these aspects being politicized doesn't make them any less real and doesn't make them have any less impact on the details of my life.

      I´m a libertarian, I'm in favor of free speech and the free markets, the thing is that all this lgbt movement is against this ideals just because there is a lot of people that doesn't like the lgbt or doesn't want to be a part of it, I have no problem for someone to have any sexual preferences, but I do have a problem when people doesn't respect my freedom of choice and want to obligate me to think and act in their ways, the last time I tried to have a civilized argument with a lgbt this guy jumped over me and bite my face while the woman where applauding him, the repression you are talking about is just a difference in the opinions of individuals and nothing more, now the lgbt want to opress everybody using the government as a tool of repression, I can see you are a nice person but I will never have a good view of the lgbt movement as a colectivism. Sory for my english.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  7 лет назад +6

      LGBT just means that a person is lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered. It has nothing to do with freedom of choice or freedom of speech at all. A lot of political rhetoric tries to frame it in that way though. And I'm always shocked that the rhetoric works and that so many people believe that and actually make genuine attempts to argue against that straw man.
      But there is no parallel between having a particular sexual preference/gender identity and trying to take away people's freedoms. People who are LGBT just want to be able to have freedom of choice and freedom of expression themselves without the government telling them what they can and can't do or making laws that disenfranchise them and discriminate against them.
      Now, when it comes to individual people who don't accept people who are LGBT, it is natural for us to be upset about this because it is invalidating to our existence and we also know that if that number of people gets too big, it can cause many human rights issues for us. We don't want to go backwards. So, it is natural for people to get upset and protest against it. Some people might even fly off the handle depending on their disposition, because it's painful. But this is not advocating for taking away someone's right to think the way they think or say what they want to say. But it is an attempt to exercise our own freedom of speech and to express our genuine displeasure at people's attempts to invalidate.
      For people of a more social progress oriented mindset, they might speak out to try to have influence over the status quo so that people can understand more and hopefully bring the minds of the masses more toward acceptance. This is no different than any other social movement throughout the ages. There have always been and will always be people who have tried to influence the social structure to go in a particular direction: sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. This is not censorship or an attempt to squelch someone's freedoms. It is the opposite. It is freedom of speech in action.
      But of course, no one should bite someone or harm someone because of this. That's a really low brow and barbaric way to deal with people who you disagree with. But also consider that there are low brow people in the world. And perhaps poking people of any sexual preference/gender identity (including straight/cis-gendered people) with psychological sticks will occasionally result in an ass-whooping, depending on the demeanor of the individual that you upset. But most people will be able to respond without violence to your disagreement with their lifestyle, even if they do get angry.
      Also, to be clear, (and I'm not sure if this is what you meant by what you posted) LGBT people are not trying to get other people to become LGBT. It's not like an attempt to convert people over. That's not actually possible in the first place. If a person is straight, then they can't be anything else but straight. It's just trying to raise awareness so that people realize that being LGBT is just another intonation of humanity, even if it is less common than being straight or cis-gendered. It's like being left-handed. It's normal, even if it isn't that common.

      My way of viewing this is that people can do whatever they want, I have not even a singular problem with lgbt if this is away from politics, but it's not, feminists and the left wing are making just a huge problem about this, I hate the conservatives that don't let people live the way they want and those are the ones that shame the lgbt, not the libertarians, the thing that is totally wrong is to teach the little kids about this gender ideology in school when they are just inocent little creatures, also the transgender people want the surgeries to be paid by the taxpayers, same with the abortion, I don't want to pay for other people's problems because I got my own ones, also why there should be p,ropaganda about this, that's insane, sexual preferences are something that should be manifested in a private way, not in a public way, if someone want to have any sexual activity then just get a room and that is for heterosexuals too, why everybody have to make a big deal of this, if someone is gay then why everybody should know it, they should just be and let people guess during time just like with heterosexuals who not talking about, anyway that's my opinion about this, thanks for your answers, you are one of the few lgbt persons that are open minded and can talk about this stuff without irracional resentments, keep it up I loved your jungian shadow material.

      The main reason why LGBT issues have become political is because there are laws on the books that are either purposefully or accidentally causing issues for them. As far as wanting tax-payer dollars to go toward abortions or sex change surgery, I have never heard of this. Not to say, that there aren't people who hold more extreme fiscal views like this. I'm sure that they're out there, because everything is out there. But I'm pretty sure that it's a small minority of LGBT people who want that. The reason why I say this is because I have a lot of very politically involved liberals on my Facebook and they post lots of liberal memes and videos. So, I'm always up to date on the mainstream liberal viewpoints, and I've never heard these things advocated for. Mostly, the political issues on the left regarding LGBT people are about getting laws put in place for the protection of LGBT individuals so that they are protected from discrimination in the same way that race, gender, and religion are. Or they are rebuttals to the people who want to ban gay marriage or deny transgendered people the ability to use the restroom of the gender that they identify with. So, that's really the reason why it's politicized. I think it's a shame that it has to be, because it's such a non-political thing at its core. But because society is adjusting to it there is a lot of political resistance on one hand and also a lot of practical political issues that have to be resolved for the adjustment to happen in the political sphere. And there's a lot of tension around these issues because people on one side are afraid to change, and people on the other side don't want to slide backwards into the way things were before. So, that's really the only reason why these things are a big deal right now. It's a time of transitions. A hundred years from now, my prediction is that it will have already ceased to be a political issue as it will just be seen as mundane and nothing to bat an eye at. And all the legislative issues will have already been hammered out. But you're welcome. And thank you for your kind words. I'm glad that you like the Jungian stuff. :)

    I'm very happy that I came across this channel... I have a plethora of questions to ask, and you seem to have a wealth of knowledge... Some of the contentions seem like an appropriation of the works and thinking of Lao Tzu and the philosophy of Taoism... No?

      I don't know a ton about Taoism or Lao Tzu, though I've always enjoyed his quotes and it's definitely something I want to look into more. But I just read the Tao Te Ching about a month or two ago for the first time, and I found some similarities between what he described in metaphor and my own personal experiences (I had two experiences of ego-transcendence several years ago). I also studied quite a bit about Jungian Psychology and a bit about Non-Duality as well as a handful of other spiritual concepts. So, it's just likely that we stumbled across some of the same insights or that the other things I've researched have been influenced by Taoism. I always like to say "Same path. Same trees.":)

    Thanks Emerald, I need to sub this channel and read more into Jung, archetypes and all that. This video is extremely informative and helpful to me, Jung was ahead of his time in many ways. I've been struggling with accepting my Anima, as my whole life I've been so entrenched in my ego that I couldn't even admit to having a feminine side, I don't know why and I can't pinpoint to what causal factors or conditioning I had but I always considered feminine energy to be a weakness (please don't hate me) so it lead me to shunning compassion and affection and I am even ashamed of expressing emotions to other people. For years I have just felt empty and inhuman, more of a shadow than a man. I've become bitter and I can barely feel anything for anyone. I couldn't forsee the damaging psychological and emotional ramifications for suppressing the Anima, I wasn't even consciously aware of it. I need to retrace my steps and bring more balance to my psychology. Women seem to be able to accept their Animus much easier than Men can accept their Anima, but times are changing, and it's going to lead to a more psychologically balanced society.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад +2

      I think that this pattern of suppressing the feminine is very common among men and women alike, especially Generation X and before. This is because society has been very Yang-oriented and focused toward masculine archetypes and values for thousands of years while Yin-oriented feminine values and archetypes have largely either been dismissed as trite or just not fully explored. I used to suppress my feminine side and still have many deeply ingrained values and attitudes that mirror this suppression. So, I can relate in many ways to what you're saying. Focusing only on the masculine side (which is related to the elements fire and air and reflects transformation and change foremost) creates an un-grounding effect when out of balance with the feminine side. It's like living in the head and not in the body. There were times living as only my masculine-sided self when I barely felt any kind of connection to my body. So, it's important to find balance. But if you're looking to find where these values stem from, it's likely from quite a few places. It's so subtle and widespread that this cultural bias is easy to overlook at first glance. You might have been made fun of as a kid and been called a "sissy" or were told "you ____ like a girl." You might have had parents that discouraged you from enjoying things that were considered feminine. There are also a ton of subtle things in the media that depict men who display feminine traits as weak, of poor character, or a laughing stock. So, there are probably hundreds of small sources that subtly shaped this resistance. Luckily, cultural values are shifting, so the social stigma long associated with the feminine is lessening. So, it just becomes a matter of spotting your biases and questioning them so they become easier to let go of.

    I find most of Jung’s theories very interesting intuitively but it can take a while to really grasp them. I think one of the great points you’ve made here is that these unconscious forces are already present so it’s not something that has to be “fabricated/made up”. Just a more aware attitude of those traits already inherent in the psyche.
    Also the more modern view on gender in relation to Jung’s original theory seems very applicable now.

    This was really eye opening, the more i watch your videos the more I understand the process and how it's been going within myself as i work towards my own intergration. I had a problem seeing the masculine traits within myself and seeing that my life was being limited because they weren't embraced, likely due to my childhood and being raised with a single mother after leaving my abusive father there seemed to be a lot of rejection of the masculine energies because of fear of turning like him and likewise repression of feminine traits because it felt as if being vulnerable and such leads to people hurting you.
    However watching this i realized what i defined as masculine and feminine were off the mark and i already embody many of those traits such as being analytical, more mental / logical, goal oriented, evolution and change, etc and likewise many of the feminine ones such as seeking the mysteries, respect for eartj and animals, connected to the unconscious and such.
    The problem seems to be the associations and assumptions of the mind as to what masculine and feminine are really and the way society has told us it expressed itself.
    I'm curious about something in your opinion would anima and animus be reversed in those who are homosexual? I'm curious about this since you mentioned there is a connection between how one views the opposite sexually, would then someone it be reversed in homosexual in a way since it would influence their view and sexual attraction of men?
    This is fascinating as it implied attraction to others is also deeply psychologically tied to the process of integration and individuation.
    Thank you for this content and all you're doing! You are a gift to this world and do amazingly in explaining these things in a way that can be clearly understood. 🖤

    Thats the whole thing when we can achieve the balance between the opposites in every area of our life that is when our entire outlook changes. Acceptance is the key. When we completely accept pur whole self we realize that the only problem that ever existed was only in our mind that in reality everything is just as it should be. It is in that recognition that truth is realized. This was a very good video. You gave the keys to the kingdom.

    this is exactly what' I've been looking for. I have sort of had this "integrate the masculine" as something to work toward and I just got lost with it and then I was like, ugh, it's so binary and I don't even WANT to be more masculine, maybe I just want to express my feminine traits even more. at that point I knew I needed to do some more reading rather than just be like jung pfft, didn't know what he was talking about, lol, so outdated. and then I just stumbled across your shadow work video and this came up in the list to the left and I feel SO RELIEVED looking at the list of yin and yang traits, because now I can see what I already have and do and just emphasize those (which is actually happening in my life anyway, as it happens, in a lot of cases) instead of just giving myself this blanket prescriptive to "be more active and less passive!" I was just getting super confused, like, well, being more active might mean performing spells, but that actually feels feminine to me so wtf. so THANK YOU for this, I feel so much clearer now.
