Thank you for this! The Korean band BTS uses the Map of the Soul as a concept for their new albums and their journey to themselves and this was really helpful to understand their story more.
I also come here for BTS but found such a beautiful concept to which I can totally relate to. I have been to several websites and I am even reading Map of the Soul but Ego had remained a mystery to me. But I do have a vague idea about it. ARMYS fighting!
Hi everyone, sorry for the late video. I was having a really hard time with this one because my A/C was broken for a couple days (And it's Florida in early August), and I was sick too. But at long last, here is the video. I may not get to your comments today because I have to go out later. But leave some for me down below, and I'll get back to them ASAP. Have a great day! :)
Brilliant as always. Your videos were missed for sure. I was one of those people with weak ego up until i hit 30, now in my mid 30s i know who i am. I was such a late bloomer lol. I also understand how to make the ego work for me and not the other way around, I think that`s very important.
Internet learning has helped me greatly. There's something about getting multiple points of view, and being able to replay difficult parts over and over, plus I can fit it into my schedule. Also, it doesn't have to be linear, sometimes I jump from old style thinking to newer perspectives (especially in philosophy) and back again for better insights. As long as I avoid confirmation bias then the internet fosters an open mind. Thanks for the video and I hope you feel better. Edit: I feel this has helped me in relation to ego work (I have a strong ego) because it's helped me to diffuse my ego thru openmindedness. It's helped me in developing my weak persona by educating me on why things happen, and building compassion for others...we're all in the same boat.
Your videos are so helpful. I'm preparing to enter a counseling psychology Masters program at Pacifica. Their program is based in Depth Psychology, and your series has really given me a lot of good information on Jung's work. Thank you!
This is absolute gold. I have a very weak ego and it continues to wreck me, is what I realized after a few videos of yours and especially this one. After all the various psychological theories I've learned about, this feels dead on point. I'm not entirely sure of how to build a strong ego, but I'm trying to get to know myself better as you suggested here. Thanks a lot.
Same. I'm starting with affirmations and replacing my current unwillingness to commit to an ego with beliefs that serve me. Now, without the hesitancy of having an ego overall. I don't know if that makes sense, but previously I didn't want to make judgements about myself because I thought having an ego itself was a bad thing that caused overidentification with the self, but I can now see that it's hurting my ability to function and cope as a human altogether.
A very thorough and lucid explanation. I particularly liked the emphasis on the possibilities of developing or amending the ego in whatever direction is relevant, because ego-related problems often weigh people down and cause difficulties which are relatively easy to resolve compared to, say, persona-identification. I am now in my second half-century and the concept and goal of individuation has recently begun to affect me on a very profound, almost visceral level: it makes me so hopeful to see a young acolyte such as yourself help others explore the riches a Jungian approach can offer to those genuinely seeking a full and creative life.
I am so used to people sayling the ego is something to get rid of. Treating the ego as a trouble maker. This explanation is more fair. Seeing the ego as needed and something to keep healthy is a nice change. It seems important to keep ego in check to avoid negative outcomes, but also to keep ego in good health. Very nice! Thanks for sharing.
People don't understand what they are talking about. It's the same as the concept of the "nice guy" - what it means as a defined archetype in psychoanalysis is quite different to what is meant in a day to day sense by society.
I love the fact that your topics are based on Carl G. Jung Psychology. I am currently reading, Man and his symbols. Carl Jung books are a hard read, you really have to pay close attention to what he’s trying to convey. I’m so glad to be apart of your channel to get a first hand breakdown of his theories. Yesterday, I did a marathon watch of your videos and I love it👍🏾

You became my new best friend. I'm watching all the videos on your channel. Just wanted to say this, you helped me a lot. I'm so thankful that you decided to make a video and share it with the world! And if you had not, I wouldn't have been this "me" now....so thank you!
@The Diamond Net This is the best explanation to the lay person. Superb video. As someone that has went through the individuation process, this video is superb.
Experiencing ego death through the use of LSD was one of the most terrifying, exhilarating, ineffable journeys I've had in my 38 years of life. I learnt more about myself in 24 hours and the days after than in 20 years of living.
Thank u Emerald for this wonderful video..I loved all the videos of yours but this one is special...I realized that I am having a weak ego and the problems in my life arising out of it...thanks a ton dear
In active imagination my ego first presented itself as a very tall, narrow tower. A little later I went looking for the source of my pride, and it was at the top of the tower. I’m not 100% but I’m pretty sure my pride continues to build my ego taller and taller, and whenever anything does damage to it, the tower begins to crumble but pride hoists it back into place.
I know this is an old video but I would really want to develop my ego. While u were talking about a weak ego I could see a lot of me in what ur talking about. So if anyone knows please tell me

I was just listening to you talk about how we can create and choose both negative and positive traits to be valued and relegated to the ego, and how you feel grateful that one of the traits you deemed valuable was being hard-working. it made me realize that from an extremely young age I have done the opposite, deciding that laziness, and specifically putting in little or no effort and still doing well (mostly academically but in other aspects as well) was an integral part of who I was. I think this may be a problem with other people who were constantly told how "gifted" and special they were from a young age, not in spite of never working for anything, but because of it. Regardless, valuing this trait has had major consequences for me as an adult. I'm not sure if it was said in this video or another, but you cautioned against defining one's self by something fleeting, such as youth or beauty, and sadly, I was not capable of remaining as slothful as I sought higher education and started being surrounded by people at a similar level of intelligence to myself but who were harder working; I was expected to actually put in effort if I wanted to even keep up, and not only was this incredibly alien to me (knowing how to study or take notes etc.), but it was genuinely terrifying to me *because* I had made this trait a major part of my identity. This trait felt absolutely necessary in order to maintain any semblance of self worth, so, I started to avoid situations which would challenge the idea that I was not, in fact, effortlessly special. If I knew I was going to do poorly on a test, I would simply not take the test and *choose* to get a 0; if I get an F, it's because I didn't bother trying, but if I take the test and do poorly, then I'll have a fucking identity crisis. Similarly, even if I knew I was relatively prepared for a test, if I felt like I'd get a B, I would rather not take it and choose to get an F for the same reason - I only get As or Fs because mediocrity is the most ego shattering thing to me. Losing the ability to fully identify with this trait has left me with an incredibly weak ego as it was my main source of value and identification. It's something I think parents should be really careful not to fuel - to instead value hard work, failed attempts, and "the process." Anyway my life isn't going great LOL, hopefully your videos can help save my shitty brain.
Only because everyone overcomplicates it for you Why do they do this? To emotionally manipulate everyone intobelieving it's so complicated you NEED to pay someone to explain it to you, to "uncomplicate" it all for you at a high cost of course
Love your work! but there is something with your sound, every time you stop and then start speaking there is a sound spike. is there something with a limiter, your mic, or your soundcard?

Instead of repressing the ego, I like to massage the ego with logic and reason, until it quiets down, and knows it's defeated. My ego is like a wild, angry and hungry animal, that lives on the surface of my thoughts. When you respond without thinking; it's just the ego talking

You need to find you a man handful around a little bit. Ever studied The Narrative of Carl Gustav Jung? Next recession wife 29 grandkids. And proof how could you not fat knock that stupid phone sure. Have a good day whatever.
I looked up the meaning behind "46 & 2" (song by Tool) and it brought me here. I don't know very much about this theory yet but it's fascinating if not life-changing. Thanks for these videos! Do you have any book suggestions?
You first said that you can't just make up your ego, you have to look into yourself and find out about your preferences and characteristics. But then you talked about choosing your own values. How much of your values can you rationally choose and how much can they be disconnected from your preferences? You gave the example of being hard working so let's say I recognise the value of hardworking but I also recognise in myself extreme laziness, lack of focus or discipline. Since I'm the latter, how much can the former actually be one of my values if I'm unable to practice it? And how do you align your characteristics that are in dissonance with your values? Thanks! PS: you have a compressor with a long attack on. Lower the attack or use a limiter instead
thank you for this clip. it cleared some of the confusion I felt that I had but didn't quite acknowledged. most of it stems for the various interpretations of points of view from which the ego is seen. the unreality of the ego as it is pointed out in various spiritual traditions, that stem from different religions has lead me to some warped beliefs, one of which being that "the ego is bad" somehow. I am still in the process of uprooting this belief and it strikes at the most inappropriate moments.
Oh towards the end you hit on the true diamond of any personal work /self inquiry/ shadow work. BRUTAL SELF HONESTY without this all you are doing is tickling your own fantasies . Period, go no further, stop, check,. I am at a crossroad, am I ready to totally, brutally be honest with myself if so take the narrow little trodden path. If not choose your fantasy, go where ever you like, follow who ever tickles you enough to believe that you will never have to look at your self as long as you follow their teachings. ONLY YOU HAVE THE ANSWERS AND KNOW YOUR TRUTH, but dutch it will hurt if you go there, but not as much as you imagined it would, as the pain and suffering is all in your imagination.....Sorry for butting in like this I just had to ;-)
Thanks so much for the video and the channel. These have been a great supplement to my random attempts to read Jung. A few thoughts on this one: 1. It might be a bit strong to say the ego is an illusion. A person without one, after all, is an incomplete person. Rather, it seems it is more of a complex emergent system, like most things which can be deconstruct yet which have real world effects. But yes, it isn’t absolute nor unchangeable. 2. The statement that desires are self referential sparked a huge positive response in me. I was less certain of the idea that wants are self referential as these can include, as I see it at least, choices that are both intuitively, emotionally, and rationally consistent. Or would you use a different term than wants for such choices?

I just discovered your work, it is very much interesting.
16:37 your ego is not you.. Thoughts come and go. Sensations come and go. And, ultimately, our own sense of ourselves as any enduring, substantive, “something” also comes and goes.
To say that someone with a weak ego really doesn't know who she is is true, but it is also true that someone with a strong ego also doesn't know who he is. The ego is not at all what we are, and this can be known once we move past it. I also question the role of memory in the operation and formation of the ego. There could be no ego without memory. The entire sense of self is predicated on memories, which are ideas of who we are and how we identify. Many of these memories may be subconscious or unconscious, but they still create the illusion of who we are. The most ironic thing that comes out of all of this is that the problem is the way the mind has been fragmented or compartmentalized, and at the same time Psychology feeds into this fragmentation by providing labels such as subconscious, the shadow, inner child, and so on. We are, in fact, whole beings and yet we have created fragmentation not only within our own selves but also in our sciences, religion, philosophies, etc.
Hey Emerald. I really like your videos and that you're interested in jung and jungian psychology. Do you have any experience with active imagination and dream interpretation? Maybe you can make a video about jungian techniques - how to use them and in which context - what we can gain from them - pitfalls. As i Understand it, those techniques are helpful for ego development. Meditation is helping to letting go of ego. Thanks again :)
How can we be brutally honest to yourself? How can you know that a particular thing that we have identified ourselves as is not a work of ego or persona but rather the real landscape within us? Anyways thanks for the video. You have made the concept of Ego so clear and touched on some important topics too. #bts fans if you are looking for a simple and good explanation about Jung's theories and Stein's #Map of the Soul, please come here.
How can I develop my ego? Growing up I didn't have a father and that led to an under developed ego. I'm struggling to make life decisions and have confidence to do so. What exercises or life choices can I make? Any resources to help? Thank you
So much spot on stuff. You are awesome. I wish I had a grasp of this as well as you do. One thing blew my mind and my awareness of a concept; How are we “leaving part of our self behind” as a subconscious thought from childhood when our subconscious is where we store information in early childhood, as our brain is not developed enough to be able to cope with some experiences. Directly speaking, are you saying that our subconscious leaves things behind as insignificant compared to our conscious mind as a late teen or young adult? Or are you saying we actually don’t contemplate some of our subconscious thoughts but also don’t act out on those thoughts later in life? Im not sure if Im confused or I misunderstood what you said. Gonna listen to it again. Thank you
I'd like to say thank you. But I'm not allowed to encourage people to click on ads, as it could result in RUclips demonetizing my videos. So, if I say thank you it would be viewed as encouragement. I also think that if they get too many ad clicks from one IP address that it might ping on their radar as suspicious. I'm not sure about this last part though. So, just to cover my butt, please only click on the ads if you're interested in the service being provided. :) But I appreciate the positive intention.
Yeah, this definitely lines up with my own experiences. Although having a lot of understanding of the inner landscape can be difficult to deal with (but worth it), for example my ego will say that I need to get out of bed in the morning so I can go to work, and my Anima will be like "No, go back to sleep, work is just an arbitrary shared delusion used to keep adults busy. Let me give you more dreams instead."
Spec. . I used Extacy which I suspect was laced with LSD. Never really know what Extacy will be laced with. I changed by no longer finding enjoyment in things that I enjoyed but also by not getting upset over things that use to upset me. I feel like I became a zombie. My thought process changed also, before I use to have scattered thoughts while thinking of many things. Now my mind only follows one train of thought but not multiple thoughts trying to compete with each other. I feel like I am more present in the momen but with less energy because I'm relaxed "like a zombie" in the present moment. I miss the more likely lively feeling that I use to have.
Well that suspicion of lacing sure sounds scary I feel you man. But if you're more not so reactive and present in the moment and relaxed that sound good to me friend. I had a kind of a mental breakdown with drugs too but yeah not much energy outward now but I feel good no stress no problem. Although I do feel emotions stronger though. I trust in time more genuine energy will emerge from me. I recommend checking out Eckhart Tolle if you haven't already, sounds like you're getting where he's pointing at.
I feel like I know myself very well, but my ego is weak because I get swayed by entertainment and waste my time and procrastinate (not accomplishing goals).

You need to find you a man handful around a little bit. Ever studied The Narrative of Carl Gustav Jung? Next recession wife 29 grandkids. And proof how could you not fat knock that stupid phone sure. Have a good day whatever.
I loved this video. Perfectly explained. I'll see more of your videos, thank you
I looked up the meaning behind "46 & 2" (song by Tool) and it brought me here. I don't know very much about this theory yet but it's fascinating if not life-changing. Thanks for these videos! Do you have any book suggestions?
More Tool and Karl Jung lol. Maybe some philosophy it goes hand in hand with psychology.
Amazing!! So thankful!! 🌸
super insightful! awesome!
Your videos are really good!
wow, that was alot of info spoken well and at a good speed. thanks.
As Always you have clarified my mind and helped me into building a strong ego
Great video! Thanks!
I admire your introspection.
thank you for this clip. it cleared some of the confusion I felt that I had but didn't quite acknowledged. most of it stems for the various interpretations of points of view from which the ego is seen. the unreality of the ego as it is pointed out in various spiritual traditions, that stem from different religions has lead me to some warped beliefs, one of which being that "the ego is bad" somehow.
Love this also. I have been reading Jung and beautifully simplified.
This is straight up wisdom
16:37 your ego is not you.. Thoughts come and go. Sensations come and go. And, ultimately, our own sense of ourselves as any enduring, substantive, “something” also comes and goes.
Brilliant and lovely explication!
Wow... perfectly articulated for the everyday Joe.
Thank you
More Jung? You're the best!
Thank you
The anima in females is conscience. The anima in males is subconscience, and vice versa. Take Cinderella to the ball, it changed my life!
When your ego is the size of universe(enlightened), you’re very close to doing a complete 180 flip n becoming a buddha
I watched a five minutes ads for you!
Hi, thank you for making this
I think most suffering is when people mistake themselves to be only an ego and fully identify with it as the truth of who they are
Let the journey begin…
One of the best 👍❤🙏
Brilliant work, thank you!
Thank you and you're welcome! :)
Great content!!!
I used to be a very imaginative person and have constant ideas flowing to me and images ...but one day I woke up and my mind was just blank
I had a total break down of my ego through drugs and I have to say, I enjoyed life much more with an ego than without an ego.
Profit MooHamHead it's about a healthy ego. Not no ego in my opinion
Interesting, how did you change after the drug? What did you use?
Spec.
To know yourself..is too see yourself in action with other people. Yin & yang 😮
