  • New Zealand Whitebait: Catching and cooking whitebait
A huge tradition here in New Zealand is going fishing and around this time of year many people will be out whitebait fishing. Whitebait can be pretty expensive at the supermarket so that is why a lot of people will go out and catch it themselves like my mother and father. Soon my wife might be joining them as she loves it a lot too.

They aren't alive, the cooking causes their bodies to move due to the constriction of their muscles.

As an expat working in NZ, I have no idea as to why Kiwis do many things, among them is eating these gross things. They taste like arse!

That is the most non-American, anti-yuppie housewife food I have ever seen! Fantastic! Wish I could serve it to some vegans. And, my GOD! It's called Whitebait!?

yeah.... a New Zealand thing.... go down to your river and freeze your arse off while you catch "Whitebait"..... if you are lucky you get heaps of itchy sandfly bites to your body as well. People camp out for weeks at various locations for this. Middle of the season now down here!! Your vegans will love it; I mean, it's not meat is it? It's fish related stuff.... and, it is really awesome to cook-up and eat.... and enjoy with friends. And F**k the sour faced opponents who oppose living from the land!!! This is not around rivers near towns or cities..... the good whitebaiting areas are quite remote. The film clips showing heaps of fishers, are probably not in a good areas.
If you are not from New Zealand.... This is New Zealand WhiteBait.... and is sooooo nice to eat. Other small fish called whitebait from other regions are not nice.... f'kin awful, so be careful out there....
