  • Tusk Radiator Fan Kit Review. The new TPI bikes run hotter than carburated two strokes so adding a fan is essential if you are riding technical single track. The fan is an easy install and keeps my 2020 KTM 250xc tpi from overheating. Support PNW Enduro when you shop at Motosport by using this link alnk.to/4fIw6ap

Keep in mind, the fan temp setting is adjustable. Also, it will cool 5 degrees cooler than the setting it is on. So if set at 190, it will kick on at 190 and run until 185 before kicking off. The purpose of this is to keep the fan from turning on and off over and over when you stop the bike. Many other fan kits don't do this, instead they can turn on and off 5,6, even a dozen times while the bike is not running before the temp stabilizes.

i love my fan on the Yz250FX, plug and play run off the motor temperature sensor for the EFI, designed by yamaha , never saw the bike going over 205 , and its real 205 , usually the aftermarket fans have the sensor somewhere else where you get cooler readings, but a fan is a must, i installed mine in december never saw it spinning till june

Note about pressurized engine cooling systems: The boiling point of the water increases three degrees for every 1 psi the pressure goes up. A coolant mixture of 50% water and 50% ethylene glycol has a boiling point of 223 degrees. A system with 15 psi cap will add 45 degrees for a final boiling point of 268 degrees. I do not know what PSI cap is on this bike but keep in mind the temp sensor for the unit is located externally in the fins of the radiator. It is not measuring the coolant temp.

Hitting a tree is not the proper test for engine overheating. I don't think boiling point is relevant, the temperature is. Since you have fan now, you could dump the engine ice and just use water/anti freeze mix and be fine. You seem to ride well enough to keep airflow over radiators.

Just a something to add, the boiling point of the coolant is influenced by the pressure the cooling system is under. The higher the pressure the system is, the higher the temp can go without boiling.

Is this a plug and play into the factory accessory’s plug? Or, is there additional wiring to the battery? Trail Tech was plug and play on my 18 KTM 300 XCW. Looking at my boys 18 Husky TE300 and want simple clean install with plug and play. If Tusk is, I’ll go this route.

It seems to be all the KTM 300's over heat? My friends 2018 carb model over heats all the time until we went with a higher pressure cap and geared it down lower.
I think it is a cooling capacity issue...not enough cooling capacity for a 300cc.

Nice review! I question the KTM engineer though. Looks like the 19 TPI bikes have 158 degree T stat. You think they would run a 185 T stat if that was ideal. 185 sounds better for a four stroke. Both seem hot for a 2 stroke to me. Most snowmobiles are around 130. You usually lose power once you start going over 100-120 degrees on a 2 stroke. I would turn the fan on around 165-170 if it was my bike.
