  • This Sallet helmet is based on the helmet from the full plate armor of Archduke Sigismund von Tirol, made by Lorenz Helmschmid, Augsburg, 1484. Original armor is preserved at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria.
Lifting visor is made to allow a round movement. It is fixed at each side with an externally serrated circle enclosing a rosette.
Helmet has a steel button at the lower part. This button makes visor always locked so you can be sure there’s no unexpected visor open.

medieval armorsmiths didn’t weld two halves of a helmet together

      Uncommon, but yes they did.

@@nismos14270r Really? I've never heard of that, but if it's true then I'd love to know more.

@@potatokilr7789 From my limited understanding, forge welding was very common to create larger iron/steel sheets, and there are a few (like 2 that I have seen) helmets that possibly were created by forge welding two halves together. The problem in researching this is destructive nature of any investigation. I'd probably amend my original comment to say it was rare instead of uncommon. But, definitely plausible.
