guys change the direction of the lamelling, you need to glance of the hit and not jam into the plates.. also a cut to the cord can lead to a complate fail of the armor connections with the next blow You need to cover the lower cord and connect the plates on the top like montain pattern.

were sallets welded together from two pieces historically? If not, won't it affect the strength of the helmet in that area?

OH, so it's not linen or horse hair that's been used as padding, but polyester?!

I would love a helmet made out of 3m titanium but in a different shape for sports , looking for lightweight and thin but most of all strong..

Titanium light but it sucks for helmet. Lower grade titaniums are light, uncorrosive, but weaker than stainless steel. Higher Grades are a bit stronger but stay just as light. But it will never be as strong as spring steel. Also the heaviness is needed to absorb blows. A hit to a titanium 3mm helmet would probably dent it really easily so getting an expensive titanium helmet's ultimate end is either as display or larp, or destroyed after a sevearl serious battles. And if so, you might as well just get stainless steel for display and plastic/mildsteel for larp.
