  • In this video we review and talk about my new craftsman T140 automatic riding mower with a 46 inch cutting path. I will go over the lawn mower and talk about it's features that make it a great riding lawn mower for a budget minded family.
    while this is a budget priced riding lawn mower in the grand scheme of things it has some great features that make it well worth the price for a home owner with 2.5 acres or under with hills or grades 15/25 %.
    this mower is super stable on hills and has some excellent traction from the provided tires.
    below are the links to the tractor and maintenance items if you want to check this mower out. this is a lowes exclusive and they do deliver for free to most locations

    Many people rag on the variable speed drive.This belt drive variablespeed system has been around since the 70's desined by MTD.
    Works great & gives quick pedal adjustment to slow up for close cutting on obstacles & flower beds.
    MTD might not last 35 years,but it can knock down the grass!

      Agreed it's no hydrostatic unit but when I got mine it was 999 dollars if it broke tomorrow it's done 999 dollar.worth of.hard work for me since 2019.
      I hauled over 50 loades of 6ft 14inch rounds trees (over 2000 lbs each) can't tell.you how many.loads of 20 cubic ft of.dirt mulch over my 1 acre lot plus grass cutting. It's not designed.for any of that but she runs

    There is another guy on RUclips he did a video on Craftsman mower model t 240 mower it's the hydro transmission with forward & reverse pedal. The question of the day is who now makes the Craftsman mower hopefully you will be happy with the mower that you have young man

      Hey Robert, mtd makes them now. If you want or need parts for them they have them on there site.
      I know its rebranded now days , unless you but a deere or cub cadet ect.
      I would have but my yard size does not need the 3000 dollar riding mower or hydrostatic tranny .

    Great Video! I have one and found out it does well on semi steep hills. I don’t like not being able to push move it in neutral with the motor off. Can you move your T140 when the motor is off since you disconnected the reverse wire?

      And it also will pull about 1900 lbs cut down 15 trees in 5 ft sections and loaded them on my 2000 lbs trailer pulls them 1875lbs per load. (Loaded properly on mower tongue)

    I purchased this mower 7/9/2020. I just spent over $100 in maintenance and installing a new battery. The mower turns over and over and over, but it still will not start up! I didn't even get through one mowing season without obviously a major breakdown. Bought from Lowes, hoping the manager will come get this mower and fix it....and mind you...no charge to me!

    • @THEMANCAVE2023
      @THEMANCAVE2023  3 года назад +1

      Not sure where you live ( hownlongnyour cutting season is) but I'm on season 2 after 5 hours I did the recommended oild.filter change (first season) used all winter towing 23 cubic ft trailer loaded full 1700 lbs removing trees I cut in 6 ft lengths this season I did oil change, blades air filter about 100 bucks.
      Not sure what your expectations is but since a good set of blades is 55.00 bucks oil filter is about 20 spark plug 5.00 aire filter 12.00 that's 100 bucks and is routine maintenance.
      If it gets cold in your winters put your battery on a trickle charge , this will keep.it healthy.
      The only thing I've replaced that was not due for maintenance the was my fault was the deck belt I caught a stick in the deck and it melted my belt before I could disengage blades.
      Not sure why your engine won't start hopefully you did not use ethanol gas in it this will kill.any small.engine carburetor unless you put a fuel treatment in the gas first but still would strongly recommend non ethanol gas.
      If your getting it to turn and you get spark and it don't start you have gummed up your carb

      @@THEMANCAVE2023 I had a Bowens for 10 years... never had to worry about ethanol gas...especially since that is pretty much the only gas they sell here in Louisiana. Never once did it "gum up" the carburetor. Personally...if you are going to manufacture a product with this type of price tag...you should be able to use ethanol gas...its only 10% anyway...Ethanol has been around now for over 15 years. I think Craftsman/MTD/Briggs and Stratton should get with the program. Could be the fact that this mower had to come all the way from NC because it was out of stock here at the Lowes outlet...maybe up there they dont have ethanol gas...so now since I'm stuck with it...what gas treatment am I to use once it is repaired?

    • @THEMANCAVE2023
      @THEMANCAVE2023  3 года назад +1

      Hey Mary,
      The deal is the emission part of what is produced today.
      Your Bowlens from 15 Years ago had much larger jets in the carb ! Now days with the emission control jets are so small you are better off running non ethanol.
      You may use gas treatment but I prefer non ethanol.
      Any mower , weed eater , blower is like this now days just a emission thing.
      Anyways let me know what you find out happy to help if you want the help

      @@THEMANCAVE2023 after three phone calls to Lowes...2 to Craftsman...and one last one to MTD...they came and picked it up yesterday....its going to cost me $150 just for them to pick it up...determine what's wrong with it...fix it.. and return it back. When the guy picked it up..he said it may take a while because it's hard to get the parts for Craftsman mowers. Hopefully this wont take more than 3 weeks to get it fixed. I will let you know what the problem was. But will most likely put it up for sale when I get it back and try another brand. This still has been enough aggravation to deal with after only one year since I purchased it. I would like to know how many others have went thru this same situation with any Craftsman mower. But having to repair a product after one year to me is inexcusable...Craftsman should have done a better job...and I did look at the engine specs...I couldnt find anything about not using ethanol gas. I'm ticked - does Lowe's not even crank them before delivery? Also it looks like two screw points are missing for the seat as I can do a complete 360 which I doubt is a good thing, right? PO'd. I'm guessing it's the spark plug or a now dead battery??? So frustrated and disappointed! Been on the phone with them and it has not been ringing for about 5 minutes. No answer.

      Yup . Changed plug , fuel filter . Checked fuse. Think it is the dumb solenoid gas plunger. But I'm calling Craftsman to see if they will fix it. It turns over with starting fluid . Then shuts down.

    • @THEMANCAVE2023

      Not sure what you define as slow.. the max speed is 5.5-6 mph on this tractor. However you could modify the pully size and adjust the top end if you desire.
