      @P. Doherty No, during training they definitely drill safety as a major component. Then you get to trucks and sup's will tell you not to check bags and to just throw packages.
      That's just how it is sometimes.

    This will be my third month working for UPS as a Preloader. I’m currently on probation until my review comes up which should be in a few weeks. I live in Michigan where it’s a small tourist town and the hub where I work is understaffed in terms of preloaders. Work normally starts around 3:30am or 4am depending on the trailers for week. Anyway, I’m tasked with loading 4 trucks. And let me tell you, it is not easy. Especially when my trucks have 197-230 packages per day. Granted, my miss-loads have been way better since I started back in late June. But today was not my day.
    Recap: As the only preloader with 4 trucks that tends to make my morning a living nightmare. As my packages come down the belt I have to be quick like roadrunner fast. But this morning I was criticized by a member of the Management team because they weren’t liking what I was doing. I wasn’t bending at the knees, I wasn’t using optimal carry, etc. Until it got to the point where I wasn’t allowed to put packages under the belt! That I had to stack my packages up against the doors. I mean, hello! There’s just no room to do that. I have to put packages under the belt otherwise I get so far behind that I just want to throw my hands up and say f*ck it!
    And don’t get me started on potential hires. They come in, work their first shirt and than they’re done. Or they leave as soon as break starts. I’m definitely gonna be looking at other jobs this week. Cause I just can’t keep up anymore. Sure the workout is good. But a single preloader with 4 trucks is hard.

      Plus UltraMan it’s boot camp everyday of your life. I’d come in with so many packages I couldn’t close the doors on the truck and I wouldn’t get in until 11 hours with packages stacked up front with me. It’s ridiculous. The company spies on you and harassment is normal. No time for lunch or breaks, I’d go the entire day without stopping. I was so tired when I got home it was straight to bed so I could do all the madness again the next day.

The goal is to reduce injury and keep freight handlers working. In your experience, do you think something like this would be beneficial? If so, once I get it up and running would you be interested in taking the course at no-cost and providing your feedback? Thanks in advance for your response.

    Bro you sore after 8 hrs of work with 1 hr lunch?! Try 11 hours with a half hour lunch. Manual labour gets easier with time but come on.

      Fuck manual labor. Some people make millions a year sitting on their ass. Meanwhile you make 50k a year to bust your ass? You aren’t a role model, you are a failure

      UPS manual labor puts all of their manual labor to shame in terms of intensity the weight of the package is lifted and the variations in temperature I've seen men that wear Concrete Construction Roofing you name it take off running out the door with their tail between their legs and that was only one they were on part-time

      Mike Wagner how long did it take you to get a fulltime bid?

    • @dennypluto4028
      @dennypluto4028 5 лет назад

      Mike Wagner thanks for replying I was hired in1978 at that time we were paid nearly fulltime wages but worked pt hours.in contract in 81 they cut wages for new pt hires in half.When I left in 1990 my hrly rate was over$16hr.after 12 yrs I still didn't have enough seniority for a fulltime bid that's why I was asking how long it took you.in one way I was lucky to get hired at top rate but there was very little employee turnover.that's why it took 12 to 15 yrs for a fulltime bid.I have friends I was hired with that never wanted ft still working partime making $38 hr.now I see starting wages at $10 to$15hr we made that 35 yrs ago.but that created big time employee turnover and I hear people getting fulltime jobs in a year or two.

      theres a difference from a good honest days work that was hard and being OVER worked like a slave packages per hour is fucking bullshit. they give benifits to part timers cause of how high the injury risk is.

      This is a bit more than a hard days work. This is the equivalent of doing 8 to 10 hours worth of work in 5 to 6 hours. I work in South Florida as a Package handler for FedEx, and the young people that I work with are superb at this job. Only later in life will they feel the effects of the labor extensive work with no scheduled breaks, and not eating right. YOUR BODY IS NOT DESIGNED AS A ROBOT!
