  • Temptation to be dissatisfied is everywhere! So much around us screaming, “You’re not happy!” “You’d be happier if...”.
    In this Proverb Solomon tells his son to stay at home. To be satisfied with what is his. #GetWisdom!
    It’s gonna get a little saucy here today - we’re talking about sex! Sex is not a bad thing; it’s an amazing gift from God, but you need wisdom in order to handle it correctly. You ready for this?
    In the Bible, King Solomon had 300 wives and 700 concubines. That’s 1000 women that he was sexually intimate in some way! He was messed up by this, and heart was turned away from God by women. He learned the hard way, so it’s interesting that he shares this wisdom with his son. Let’s read through some of Proverbs 5 together:
    My son, be attentive to my wisdom;
    incline your ear to my understanding,
    2 that you may keep discretion,
    and your lips may guard knowledge.
    3 For the lips of a forbidden[a] woman drip honey,
    and her speech[b] is smoother than oil,
    4 but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
    sharp as a two-edged sword.
    5 Her feet go down to death;
    her steps follow the path to[c] Sheol;
    6 she does not ponder the path of life;
    her ways wander, and she does not know it.
    7 And now, O sons, listen to me,
    and do not depart from the words of my mouth.
    8 Keep your way far from her,
    and do not go near the door of her house,
    9 lest you give your honor to others
    and your years to the merciless,
    10 lest strangers take their fill of your strength,
    and your labors go to the house of a foreigner,
    11 and at the end of your life you groan,
    when your flesh and body are consumed,
    12 and you say, “How I hated discipline,
    and my heart despised reproof!
    13 I did not listen to the voice of my teachers
    or incline my ear to my instructors.
    14 I am at the brink of utter ruin
    in the assembled congregation.”
    Wow. Solomon is giving warnings about who to be and who not to be with, and has a lot to say about self-control. And it leads us to our verse of the day, Proverbs 5:15 - “Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well.”We’ll come back to this, but first let’s read the rest of the chapter together:
    15 Drink water from your own cistern,
    flowing water from your own well.
    16 Should your springs be scattered abroad,
    streams of water in the streets?
    17 Let them be for yourself alone,
    and not for strangers with you.
    18 Let your fountain be blessed,
    and rejoice in the wife of your youth,
    19 a lovely deer, a graceful doe.
    Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight;
    be intoxicated[d] always in her love.
    20 Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman
    and embrace the bosom of an adulteress?[e]
    21 For a man's ways are before the eyes of the Lord,
    and he ponders[f] all his paths.
    22 The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him,
    and he is held fast in the cords of his sin.
    23 He dies for lack of discipline,
    and because of his great folly he is led astray.
    Okay, back to today’s verse (Prov. 5:15): “Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well.”I think he’s using this analogy about water to talk about being satisfied with your own wife, not with someone else’s. I like how, in verse 19, Solomon tells his son to “be intoxicated always in her love.” In his own wife’s love, not in anyone else’s.
    Love the one you’re with. We’re bombarded with messages that tell us the grass is always greener somewhere else, but that’s a lie. The grass is greener where you cultivate it.If you’re married, be happy where you are, and love the one you’re with. Marriage is a beautiful gift. Despite the many temptations we face, I promise you, it’s better to stay at home, so to speak, and to stick with what is yours. Media will try to tell you about the standard of beauty, but let me tell you something: when I got married, my wife became my own standard of beauty.She is the most beautiful woman I know because she’s mine.
    This advice goes for all of us, married or not. Don’t go looking for love from someone that’s not your own. Let’s read our verse of the day one more time: “Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well,” (Proverbs 5:15).Stay at home, stay at home stay, at home. Get wisdom.

      @@MrToontuber We can readily criticise and set ourselves up as more knowledgeable by disagreement with anyone. However, you need to show evidence cause for disagreement. Secondly when we contradict our first statement then you add nothing to the conversation and you show only your impunity towards the speaker, the audience and also to God's Word... provide your reasoned considerations for your argument or remain silent and seem wise.
