I agree with "It depends". It depends on how well you move in daily life, how well you can develop muscle memory, how well you can learn and sense connection with other people, how well you unlearn what you have learned (to find the concepts and not memorize specific patterns), how devoted you are, how well you accept that you are never actually done learning WCS (because there's really no definition of done), etc.
It also depends upon how one defines "learning [west coast swing]," particularly from the standpoint of the student, who typically doesn't have an understanding of wcs. To some, it's [just] the 6-count footwork in place; to some, it's the extend/stretch & together (for the tiniest bit of how to connect to one's partner); to some, it's [just] a push & pass. All 3 of these things can be accomplished in 1 hour, but everyone on this channel is well aware that this is NOT "learning" wcs.
We have been teaching for a very long time. I am not saying it can't be done, but new dancers who have not danced before would not in most cases be able to learn all 3 of your concepts in 1 hr. Someone who has danced before would have a greater chance of achieving them in an hour.
I agree - what defines 'learning' I'm still learning! That being said I think in the context of beginners it's escaping beginner class and being able to social dance 🙂 And I think with a little focus newbies can effectively do that in 4 weeks. As for mastering wcs (or learning higher level concepts) it's a never ending journey! -Brian

Yes most definitely!
