My brother who had downsyndrome passed away in 2015. He was such a happy and kind person. The fact that there are such terrible people out there just makes me sad. I just cried my eyes out, because I miss my sunshine even though it's so long ago. Now I work as an educative therapist because I want to give my clients the amount of love my brother gave me.

My little sister is 5 and has down syndrome and I’ve seen the way MANY people (including family and family friends) have treated her, so these people genuinely warm my heart.

One day I saw two men bullying a clearly autistic man in a parking lot.. the autistic man finally walked away crying after being mocked and called retard3d. I waited for the two men to walk away and I keyed their beautiful brand new truck. I wrote the words "mentally challenged" across the whole body of the truck lol.. karma. I didn't live in that state and their were no cameras in the parking lot so I was good! I wish I was there to see their faces when they saw their truck.

"I hope I'm not bothering you" that's a phrase I've heard a lot of people with down syndrome and other mental challenges use. They are way more self aware than the average person bc people do bash them so much. It's honestly so sad.
Peter Brodzinski, my fellow Washington Township High School alumni. The episodes he was on were my favorites. We both deal with mental disabilities on a daily basis, and the way he handles it is a real inspiration to me. His mother was actually my English teacher at WTHS. She was the best English teacher I ever had.

The terminology has changed a bit over the years. I have a couple friends who work at group homes for people with mental delays and we usually use the term developmentally disabled. I know that term might not have been the best but it’s certainly more appropriate than retarded.

I have a younger brother with autism. He has been made fun of for being "Different" and even was pushed into a mud puddle once and came home soaking wet, the principal didn't even tell my mom until she came to pick him up! He likes his hair long and so kids also used to tell him he's a girl. And to all who said that, no. My brother is very much a boy no matter what hair style he has. It really melted my heart seeing this video.

Amen. I know it's fake and I'm sitting here shaking. My stepbrother had Downs syndrome and I was a tomboy growing up. The one thing I won't tolerate is bullying so you can imagine what I got into trouble for when I was a kid. 😊 I'll put up with anything but if someone picks on someone who's disabled, I'll knock their teeth out.

I’m a teenager in the new England area, and every summer my dad volunteers for a camp that hosts campers with disabilities. some have feeding tubes, some are immobilized, and some are just hard to cope with. I remember, it was visitors week one year, and he had an amazing camper who was like- 8 years older than me, and we both bonded like that. After that I always asked, when can i volunteer or be a full-time counselor there? It hurts me to see articles about teenagers my age bullying others to a point where they hurt others or themselves. That just goes to show how messed up some people are.

@Hamid Hussein According to the definition of morality it's pretty immoral to not accept homosexuality. And I'm pretty sure people who come up with the definition of words such as the oxford people are like 100 times more intelligent than you or any offspring of you ever will be. Some people just want to be ignorant and uneducated.

No matter what kind of philosophy you're looking at - Morality always shares the same basic principles. Being homosexuals doesn't harm anyone else nor does it inflict damage to society. So by being homophobic (e.g. saying it's "immoral" even tho you don't even know the clear definition of morality and immorality) shows your lacks of intelligence. That's like saying every other human trait (e.g. being black, asian, tall, small) makes you immoral, which shows your lack of understanding what morality is. Maybe read a book once in a while.
