    I adore him so so much. I've been watching Jaques Pepin since I'm old enough to recall. I was the only child I knew who ran home from school to see cooking shows on tv. When Julia Childs passed away I cried as if I knew her. Seeing Jaques starting to have some troubles walking put a lump in the throat. He has built such a happy life for himself and his family. I wish him the best always.

    My father loved cooking and food and he passed that on to his 3 sons. I'm not sure that any of us are on the same level of exploration as my father, as we mostly cooked for our families and the wife and kids, who have their druthers. My youngest brother was the most adventuresome, and closest to my father in the desire to cook a fancy dish. He was influenced by managing for Steak and Ale. But I see the same enjoyment of food, drink and socializing in Jacques Pepin's family that we had, ... especially at holiday seasons. Like Jacques, I've grown older and arthritis has set in, but the same love love is there. My sons have moved away, ... so I mostly cook for my wife and myself and the challenge is to come up with recipes for one or two people. I can experiment more as I will cook for my taste and ensure that my wife has something she likes to eat. But nothing beats enjoying food together! Very nice story on a fantastic gentleman who is beloved by many!

      I urge you to read his autobiography, "The Apprentice". It's a really good read, every bit as relaxed as he is. The story of the meal he cooked for himself at Gloria's apartment early in their relationship goes right to the heart of what you're thinking here. Really, the book is worth every reading minute.

    • @julieenslow5915
      @julieenslow5915 3 года назад

      Just from videos online, I would say he would have diffused that long ago. To him, a meal is about love, sharing with those around you, giving of your best. I can not believe he would allow any family member to be terrified about what and how to contribute. He is a great teacher - if a little learning gets you to where you are not scared anymore (much less terrified) I am sure he is helping them over that hump.

    Of course the irony is that Pépin embodies everything that is NOT the typical French stereotype: unpretentious, down to earth and a chef that will teach everything but the kind of pretentious food that has often been (incorrectly) labeled with French cuisine.

    • @mephren
      @mephren 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, that sure is a stereotype. France is full of great people and great food, maybe you're thinking of some stuck-up luxurious restaurants, which of course you'll find in France, but these family gatherings and simple people are the trend here. At least they used to be ;)
      Oh and that might surprise a lot of people watching these videos, but absolutely no one knows J. Pépin here. Sureley because he's lived most of his life in the US. I really like his videos though, you can definately tell he's had that old school teaching everyone praises 👍

    *Feast It Forward* "When you think of Chef’s in their environment..."
    * It's "chefs," not "chef's." With exceptions so rare that they can be all but ignored, an apostrophe-s doesn't make a word plural, it makes a singular possessive. Example: There were *three chefs* in the competition, but *one chef's* skills outshined the others' attempts.
