I think what is also important is that you should always watch the replay after any incidents, even if you think you're not the one at fault.
Interesting. I find that I only get punted when I brake for corners, brake for traffic, drive side-by-side on through a corner, drive side-by-side on a straight, or give someone room to pass cleanly if I'm slow.

I have learnt that if you have patience and drive safely you gain a few places just by the mistakes and battles that are taking place ahead of you
There are a lot of dirty or overly aggressive drivers with S rating who know how to push to pass or dive bomb without getting penalties or often not even losing SR. I could go on and on about some of the issues with penalty system and SR system. GT7 needs changes
Fr and the fact I lose half a bar of sr for a disconnect but gain none back for accidentally getting a .5 sec track limit pen once In a 15-20 lap race 😂 like wtf 19 clean laps and one track limit warning and I get 0 sr?

In C and lower B grade, if you start at the back of the pack, never overdrive and ONLY pass the people that come off (guarantee in C and lower B plenty of offs) youll raise your grade fast. NEVER OVERDRIVE in C and B grade, You dont need to.
True. I’m a B driver, I did a race, starting in 11th (from First to 16th there was only 6 tenths of difference) just by driving safely; with some decent clean battles I finished 3th, 3.5 seconds behind 1st. Just be patient with it, it’ll come to you.

That’s where I am, have only been racing online a week. Made C/S in 6 races, then dropped to D/B in two races before I learned patience. Up to B/A a couple days later. Sometimes I need to remind myself mid race not to get caught up in other people’s bullshit.
That was an awesome video and going to watch this on the new Daillies and adapt to it. Thank Rory we need more of this !

Great tips, and after several hundred online races in lower DR/SR lobbies I'd like to add a few of my own:
1. Qualify as high as you can. This is the number one thing you can do to avoid trouble in lower DR/SR lobbies
2. Practice and plan your overtakes to be on the inside. Dirty drivers and/or drivers with poor car control (common in lower lobbies) will have a much harder time running you off if you always have the inside line. If you are side-by-side and approaching a corner where you have the outside line, use a switchback - don't try and hold it around the outside. chances are the defending car will just brake too late and drive off-track anyway - and you won't be collateral damage and have your race ruined as well.
3. Look behind - When approaching a corner use your mirrors and radar to see if you are about to get divebombed or punted. I like to take a slightly different line and watch them sail past and overshoot the corner, its very satisfying.
4. To reiterate Rory's point - its totally okay to pull out of a low-percentage overtaking move. It can totally mess with the brain of the driver in front too. In B/C/D lobbies drivers often can't concentrate on front as well as behind, so even just shaping to pass and then pulling out can totally mess with their heads and force a mistake which makes the overtake easy.

Speaking of F1, those races are actually good materials to learn the dos and don'ts, Max is too desperate in recent races that online racers should definitely avoid those divebombs and retaliation maneuvers and save for the next sure bet to get the place or wait for the last lap attack or keep the race as is. Max in Austria and Hungary are huge losses even more on his side not his car

I've given up on onlines, but we're running out of cars to buy and things to do other than online. I might return.
The thing is, we don't get prepared through career mode. That's not racing. So online I get the shaking triceps, being nervous. In gt6 it didn't matter, ratings were not a thing. I didn't improve either. In gts I did, up to a point where I thought I belonged: b/s. Casual gentleman driver with a dayjob, sounds about right. But my strength, and interest, is in setting up a car, more than in the technicalities of racing. With BoP that's a no go and that puts me off. I'm not allowed to tune a car to where I want it to be. But that's a major thing in irl racing, isn't it? Sometimes the standard setting is just awful. So I have to choose a car that fits my taste, even if it's the opposite of the meta. I'm a casual dayjobber, not a dedicated youtuber. I can't just adapt myself, ain't got the time.
TLDR: I want to be able to access the setup, even within BoP. I'd be better and more confident.
Oh, and I want the crazy penalties back. You remember from gts when everyone said it was ridiculous? That's when I earned my rating.
Since you love to fiddle with setup, ACC is going to be your thing. 100%.

Great review chaps currently brewing a brewbros pilsner during all the weather issues I got a second hand fridge hooked up to an ink bird and heat tube and it fermented like a dream at 12’c cost less than £80 and was a game changer can’t say I’ve brewed any of the brew day kits so will check them out will defo try the wine for the wife 👍 cheers 🍻

I don't really play gt7 much anymore, mostly iRacing. But I find myself struggling to find a happy balance between being aggressive enough to move forward but not being so passive that I end up losing positions. I usually err on the side of caution to avoid accidents but end up being slower because of it. Hopefully this will improve in time. Still, thanks for the tips, very useful.
Your last tip [pick the care that is right for you not what all the fastest drivers are using] is the best one.
I spend the first day trying out several cars. I am always five or six tenths a lap faster with one particular car as that is the one that suits my driving style.
I haven’t been racing online long but what I’ve found is if I’m genuinely faster, just keep their pace close to them (putting clean pressure on) without hitting them and wait for them to make a mistake. My enjoyment and average finishes have improved significantly since starting that.
You can also say sorry after the Race, if you had a incident with someone, where you're at fault. Or before the Race, you can say: 'let's have a clean Race'. I think that both things can earn you some respect from other players.

I dont really get pushed off bc i spend alot of time on qualifying, with a good time i always start p3-1 and then u dont notice the big mess behind you, i just started playing 3 weeks ago, sometimes i enjoy the races othertimes i dont it depends on the players and sometimes if u drive with respect you also get it back, just try to be p8-p1 evertime and u will keep climbing the ranks and get with better and more respectfull people.
starting P3-1 isnt even a guarantee sadly you'd be surprised what others can do on T1 o most tracks

I'm not dirty just aggressive either getting to old to play GT7 or losing my insanity usely when people tell me something goes in one ear and out the other
Ive been racing much more defensively and it has helped me avoid spinning in a race rather and a few scrapes and bumps.
S rank means nothing in my lobbies.....AS and getting destroyed all weekend. It makes me not want to play

I gave up about 4 months ago, made it to A A and in one race at Spa a dirty driver rammed me off multiple times and pushed me into the back other cars, ended up with a few seconds penalty first lap then the next 2 laps kept getting ran wide and pushed, eventually I raged and let him pass me into the last corner and didn’t brake smashing him into the barrier, dropped back to B C I think, a couple of other dirty races after that and weeks of hard work completely undone.
Fuck Grand Turismo online, most online races are pieces of dog shit.
Germans and French are the absolute worst, closely followed by the Spanish and Italian

Keeping S rank SR is hard when youre in a B DR lobby. Dirty drivers know how to play the system and you get penalizdd for their actions

This video is great for those who genuinely want to learn and drive safer but those arent the people that cause the problem. Everyone who wants to learn or get faster these are great tips. Everyone else... maybe you should listen and start using some of the tips here. Its one thing be agressive but if you are making too many mistakes or making unnecessary contact with others then you probably should chill out or play an FPS or something if you wanna be THAT aggressive.

The main problem is that some tracks tend to lack the ability penalize racers during an incident. I vividly remember when Laguna seca was in the daily races and I decided to join, this Porsche kept pushing everybody off and raced Scott free. Yamauchi really needs to fix these little mistakes that makes the player base want to leave.
Learning how to drive defensively is just as important as driving offensively
I played 50 online races last month when there was a free PSN weekend to get the last trophies I needed, the sport mode ones. I got to C/A rating and didn't see a single race where T1 or T11 at laguna seca wasn't a bloodbath, I kept getting swept up into other peoples fights. As a guy who avoids the online due to cost saving, old vet going back to college ATM, it makes me nervous about finding other games with an online mode.
Will say the penalty system seems really weird as well. Some rams or force offs got nothing others got three people because folks got hit into one another.
I wondered why I kept getting punted, then I remembered I had a livery I designed for racing with my mates. It had "Up Yours, Ugly!" Written across the back! Lol

I play GT7 like I live life. I generally believe that most people are not good so I avoid them. 😂 If you disagree with me, that’s fine. But, imagine a world without locks or passwords. The thieves/a$$holes have won!
I was just punted in T1 at Spa, looked at the video, and the guy two cars back, late brake, passed the car behind me on the inside, who was patiently waiting for everyone to take the corner like me, I had three cars immediately in front me, and this GEEZER (his tag) punted me. He then missed the next twocorners, getting penalties, and then quit after T3. So, how was this my fault? Wake up. Should I just pull over, let everyone pass to avoid getting punted. Sounds like fun. Must be nice to blame me for his late braking.
Pro tip... survive lap one. If you survive lap one 3 people would already disconnect and then its racs on.

The worst has to be people trying to push you out to a wall seconds before they have to serve penalty if you try to avoid it you lose all the pace as well as they keep blocking you or maybe brake checking you all the time in corners and not leaving space at all. Daily race B i met a french driver (been battling and trying to do a clean race but he sends its desperately in every turn and almost spins out just to keep ahead of) with 1 second penalty on the straight that tried to push me in the wall just before serving penalty when i tried to go past, dont be a that driver!!!
Later on next lap T1 he tried to send it probably into me and ended spinning out again he drove the 911 which is flexible in turns but weak on straight comapred to ford GT. Well i ended up gaining 5 positions.
Is it because you divebombed the inside of a hairpin, locked up and went straight on, but the car on your outside tried to make the corner?

I just moved up rank, I didn't play much to begin with but I moved to C or B idk any longer and the first 3 races in the rank I was being run off, sides swiped aggressively, pit maneuvered, a bumper car for their corner sends, and more. The game is for fun, and that wasn't fun. The AI are being cheeky af as well last few months ... so been taking a break hoping to have fun again one day when I can handle toxic human and AI drivers lol

Litterally 90% of my races have been ruined by dirty drivers. Mostly Brazil.... It's so bad in fact, I've stopped playing sport mode. They need to either dish out temporary or permanent bans or fix the penalty
I always have the lobby against me, look at my last three races, just because I'm always too fast every racing accident is always an attack on me
The more I play the more I can see others cars other than myself. So important to have the rear view now.

problem is almost everyone drives like its gta. no one drives proper anymore. you either join em, or finish back of the pack. ratings and penalty system is flawed af.

I take issue with that i am a clean as possible driver but i am stuck with a lower rating because the types i have to race with and dont get hours to race anymore. Why on this game is there no mirror on bonnet cam like there is on bumper cam?? No side mirrors .. once a player is focused on that apex there unlikely to see a send it move from behind. There going to turn into you.. there not dirty they just couldn't recognise a dive bomb move.. online racing is much harder with spacial awareness coming from behind. Theres too much bad blood and revenge putting because of lack of understanding . If you play on bumper cam its a advantage with mirror but you have to have a view 2ft of the floor like a single seater in every car

Rory, the radar is not helpful whatsoever. There’s not enough color contrast on it for some of us. It looks very bland and is only useful for people watching the stream.
I give ppl space but if they ram me and i catch them up they getting taken out.
Case in point epic race with someone last night for about 7laps ,really intense. Guess what !? last chicane rams me on the grass for a cheap vic.
