I'm Australian and proud to be Australian. When i hear people talking rubbish about my country i get really angry, my parents were Portuguese migrants and they came here so they could have a better life and at the time to give their future kids a better life and i for one am very grateful for that. I am first generation Australian and my son is second generation Australian and we are very proud to be Australian.
My ancestors came here 200 plus years ago and I must say it's an amazing country and I'm very proud to be Australian. I'm stoked you're here mate 😊we should all appreciate this country
@@alexandradosado3084we love having you brother. Annoys me when we are called racist as a stereotype. This gets conflated with cultural bias. As the indigenous say “ the land does not belong to us, we belong to the land”. Once you understand that, all are welcome. Community spirit is still alive here as it wilts in the greater west.
To give you an example of community spirit here. A family in our town lost everything in a house fire, the town rallied around and 48 hours later the local hall was full of donations of clothes, blankets, furniture, kitchen goods, toys etc. Absolutely everything the family could possibly need. Including multiple offers of places to stay if needed
I'm a British immigrant living in Oz and totally get what they're saying. I see amazing mateship and generosity too. The poverty, homelessness, family abuse and violence here is exploding. Housing crisis like we've never seen. It's not happening to me so I get to spend my time in a happy place being grateful for my good fortune. It doesn't mean I deny the hardships around me. This is where mateship comes in. Speak up. Help out. Be a decent person. Keep it simple.
I lost my husband, mother and son in a matter of 4yrs and even though ozzies like their space and are not in each others pockets my neighbours cooked me dinners looked after me and text me every day to see if im okay im a 70yr old home alone and they are the best nieghbours in the world and i will do the same for them TRUE OZZY SPIRIT I LOVE MY COUNTRY AND THE PEOPLE IN IT!!!!❤👍🦘🇦🇺
I'm Australian and like any large family we can talk shit about our country and do so quite readily 😊 but don't take kindly of anyone outside of the community/country doing so 😅 that's when we all put on our rose coloured glasses on 😎
Surprisingly, there are some people who don’t integrate, but most do, across all cultures. It’s often not easy especially for older people, with language difficulties - but those who do seem to be heaps happier.
Just wanted to say, I'm no stranger to domestic violence so I know what your going through...take it from me...your strong, maybe stronger than you think, so remember that on tough days... everything will be ok in the end and you will find yourself looking back saying wow I'm truly my own person now🙏✨
A lot of good points and what they and others don’t really mention about getting out and about is that there are likely as many locals participating in tours as there are tourists because if we don’t know what to do with our day we do something that looks interesting after all why leave the great places around town to people that are just visiting
Mental health days have only come in the last few years. Basically employers have realised we do get very stressed, depressed and under pressure. Letting people have one of these is actually for the greater good of the business. Equals better productivity and happier people. Basically the quicker you have one when you need it, the more likely the problems are solved quicker. The health experts have said like 70% of people have been on mental health medication in their life, for depression, stress and anxiety. You also can get 10 free psychologist support meetings if needed in a year, if you approach the Employee Assistance Program( EAP). Most big companies have one.
I feel guilty if I want to spend a day at home, when there is so much I could/should be doing! 😟 It's hard, but seriously stealing one day (or two) just to recheck your thoughts, maybe list your options, and refresh your real needs and motivations is essential! 🤔👍
We're all going to die someday, so make sure to live a life worth dying for. That's the Aussie way. My daughter gives her kids mental health days when school is stressing them out.
Just to clarify there is no such thing formally as a mental health day. You take a normal sick day. And its been happenning for years but not necessarily openly used or accepted as a reason. It seems to be more accepted these days and thats a good thing in mu opinion.
The taking sick days etc in my experience is still heavily frowned upon, ive had mates take a day of and get written warnings for it (here in most industries you get 3 warnings then fired). While these guys have a lot of nice things to say and this really is over all is a great country we are not without our issues from the upper echalons to the individual but i def gotta agree, youll always know where you stand with an aussie.
Yeah were a pretty straight up bunch... you will even oftern here us say don't beat around the bush mate, where not into sugar coating and we ae definitely not shy of conflict. This couple do have a pretty clear accurate veiw on Australia. Dneil stop squandering your money and get your ass out here already 😜😜😜😜😜😜
I have to admit we are a bit loose with the swearing certainly the C word which can be used as a positive like "yeah that's me mate Stevo he's a top c#nt!" and it freaks the tourists out so at 53 and set in my ways I try to tone it down around visitors or strangers. Geez even my missus will call you a C#nt negatively or positively depending on your attitude.
take note US in Aus we are all Aussies not Irish Aussies or any other countries we are Aussies. if we have not lived in a country we do not call our self anything but Aussie.
By all means keep your cultural traditions in Australia, so long as it isn't something illegal. Some people have found that out the hard way. For instance about a decade ago the was an expose on national tv about a group of Muslims trying to enforce Sharia Law including beating women. A middle eastern taxi driver got himself into serious legal trouble when he offered a number of lady passengers a discount in exchange for sexual favours. A father from a culture where 13 year old girls had arranged marriages tried that. The immigration authorities asked him why he wanted his daughter to leave the country. He told them "She's going to get married." He was sent to prison and social services went to investigate his home. An Aussie man and his Asian wife once tried keeping a slave in Cairns. Of course they went to prison. I'm starting another comment.
Personally I've had to deal with some creepy men from different cultures over the years. Part of the culture is checking out someone we find attractive as a way of paying a compliment. So long as they don't stare as it can make people, especially ladies uncomfortable. I remember a couple of male Asian tourists making me uncomfortable once. In some Asian countries bare shoulders, forearms and ladies backs are considered provocative. They were clearly from one of them. I was minding my own business eating a meal at Macca's (MacDonald's) in a silglt style top that day. They looked at me in a way that made me really uncomfortable. I gave them my well practised ice cold stare in return. They say Asian people are inscrutable, but those two were visibly effected by the look I gave them. Another time I'd been out shopping and deciding to get a taxi home. The driver happened to be a middle eastern man who gave me a look I wasn't comfortable with. Once I reached my destination, I practically ran inside to get away from him. Don't be mistaken I have no problems with people from different cultures. But there's good and bad people wherever you go in the world. One sure way to turn everyone around you against you in Australia is to say or do anything offensive to someone. You don't have to agree with everything people do. But if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I love that Australians can have a "mental health day" when their struggling. It shows that Australia is also a compassionate country as well.

I don't mind hearing criticism about our country, it gives ideas for improvement where needed.

My place of employment is not like this - I get a medical certificate for 7 days off and get called back to work after 2 due to staff shortages !! 😅
