I think the responses characterize the difference between American humor and British humor pretty well. For better or for worse, Americans have a low threshold for expression. A simple joke with a clear punchline, or one that has an edgy subject matter gets to them. But when you replace that with a mundane subject matter, like apricots, and a punchline that doesn't sound like one, it requires one more step of processing. I'm not saying Americans are dumb, just that American society's acceptance of freedom and ease of expression means that there is little social self censor or reflection before an emotion is expressed. The British on the other hand have had social pressure not to say everything that comes to mind, and so have to be a little smarter in their joke telling.

They just don't get him. It's his schtick to have a subject about one thing then completely change it to something weird that it's funny. He'll bang on about the most useless things like:
How the topic is about BRITAIN and he'd start of with how he wished he were Mexican
How the topic would be ADVENTURE and he'd talk about how a cheese grater is too dangerous and risky for him so you only ever use one side.
Or how the subject is a PARTY and he'd talk about how his girlfriend never appreciated his glow in the dark haunted house t-shirt.
    I promise. It's funny

This could have all been avoided with the aid of some sort of tinder-like app designed specifically for forming an ideal crowd/performer relationship. Sadly such an app does not yet exist, rendering my advice obsolete. Sad times.
