Don’t forget Mark Grant screaming in the background. When they were down 8-0 in the 2nd or 3rd inning, Mark and Don said that if they won the game they would walk to Petco from their homes to raise money for Children’s hospital. Class act.
For reference to non locals its a ~30 mile walk from Alpine to Petco Park
Let's see if they honor that commitment.
@@rbrtgrdn they are. It’s now a charity event being held in the off season!
@@trevortatham349 I thought they said they would walk to the stadium today.
I just the video calling that, so cool
That's a long walk lol
Great for charity
Best game of the year
Camarena I get goosebumps such a great story
It was his 2nd career at bat-- had been called up once before.
Also, his father died not long ago. The man in his family going nuts was his brother.
Yeah the announcer did not nail the moment at all
@@akunpo3443 that has nothing to do with the comment you replied to
@@akunpo3443 he's talking about the misinformation from Rich
oh I was thinking this was Kiki Camerena son
At 4:40 Eisen stated he had struck out in his only previous AB
Two things: 1) that was his older brother who was freaking out, not his dad, who unfortunately passed away a few years ago, & 2) Camarena also toiled ten years in the Minors before that moment. I'm not sure if it is better than Musgrove's no-hitter, but close.
Camarena may never get another at bat in his career and he's probably fine with that. This is the second time a local kid did something memorable for the Padres this season. First it was Joe Musgrove's no-hitter making it the first time in Friar history that someone accomplished that milestone. Now it's Camarena going "Slam Diego" as a relief pitcher. With as much excitement as the Padres have generated for baseball this season it's hard to believe they're still in third place and four games out of first. What I want to see now is what the Giants, Dodgers, and Padres do at the trade deadline to survive the dog days before the playoffs.
As a padres fan this team has the swag and heart to go all the way, we need another big personality with tons of fire. I would LOVE for us to get scherzer
what a well thought out, smart comment. +1
Well said!!
It was his brother in the stands, their father had passed away 2 years ago. At one point his brother kneels in front of his seat to say something to their father. Camarena has spent the last 11 years in the minors waiting for his shot, I'd say he nailed it.
The guy is his brother. His father passed away in 2019 but I'm sure his father was watching from above. Camarena spent 11 years in the minor and it definitely was a fever dream like moment.
As a red sox fan Orsillo was the voice of my youth, amazing announcer, best in the business.
Yes he is!! We are proud to have him in San Diego!!
Yes! I wish he had never left. Orsillo and Remy were great, and I loved when Eck joined in too.
We adore him in San Diego.
Honestly I love this program just because they invest time talking about baseball like not other program
Same
💯
Has
Amen! And the best part is they actually know what they're talking about! Much better than Stephen A and Max Kellerman pretending to know anything about baseball!
Great show!
"How can you not be romantic about baseball?" - Billy Bean from Moneyball
Billy Bean...another ball player from San Diego. In the beginning of the book "Moneyball" he's at a tryout for several prospects and they're at Hoover High. Nice choice since Hoover was where Ted Williams went to high school.
It's even better with the audio only. Goosebumps.
It's probably going to be another 120 years until this happens again. This is historic!
It likely won't happen ever happen again because of universal DH.
Don orsillo was an AMAZING play by play guy… as a red sox fan i miss him callin our games… he was great at placing the proper emotion to the situation.. great call
Don is a diamond. I love him and mark grant, the best! Go pads!
When I'm have a "12 round day" I think! Well, I'll be listening to Don and Mud and having a laugh with them!! it's all good
Love this stuff, but man...do the research before 1st reporting please. 2nd career at bat AND it was his BROTHER in the stands. Dad passed away a couple years ago. Amazing moment to be shared all over the world!
I love this segment. You nailed the backyard self-pitch. As a Red Sox fan I am so happy for Padres fans that they get to listen to Don Orsillo. I miss him, obviously, but at least we have the internet. We have programs like this to at least tell the world about Don.
I just got hired by the Padres :) I love my city ! Go San Diego
What in? Sales? Grats.
@@ceezb5629 Yep!
That was his brother in the crowd filming it. The production team got a great shot of him watching it. What a moment
The duo of don orsillo and mark grant is GOATED 🐐 so lucky as a Padres fan to be able to listen to them every day
Padres have been lucky to have some great play-by-play guys in their history; first Jerry Coleman now Orsillo. Makes watching and listening to the bad Padres teams in past years more bearable
And the great Dick Enberg for a short time recently, a legend.
Don't forget ted leitner.
Also tg Jr!
Don Orsillo is amazing. To this day I’m still upset he doesn’t call games for the Red Sox. Class act through and through
That was his brother actually. His dad passed away in 2019.
I love Mark Grant (the "color commentator") in the background too!
Absolutely Outstanding All The Way Around!
That moment was amazing! We love Camarena! GO PADRES!!!! ⚾️⚾️⚾️
What a great thing for baseball. Finally
This is the best sports piece in a minute
His inside the park home run call is the greatest thing I've ever heard.
Orsillo is the best. The sound of my childhood growing up outside Boston. 86 years be damned, the Sox letting Orsillo go as their play by play guy alongside Jerry Remy dwarfs trading Babe Ruth as the biggest blunders in team history.
Love that guy.
This moment is what makes sports amazing so happy for the guy
Orsillo is a GREAT announcer. The Red Sox should never have let him go.
Every once in a while the pure joy cord gets struck in your life and Cam struck mine!
123 years. Damn. Well done. A1
Bought a ball signed by Camarena over the holidays for a charity auction and got to meet him and tell him how fun this was. Super cool dude. Best moment of the season for me.
Loved Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy calling Red Sox games. Daniel Nava hit a Grand Slam off the first pitch of his first major league at bat.
As a Nats fan, that’s baseball….fabulous for him.
Letting Orsillo go was a huge mistake and one of the last big mistakes that Luccino made as the Red Sox president.
Luccino was and is a joke
That was not his dad, that was his older brother with the phone in the stands. His older brother beats him by like around 10 years. It was amazing last nights game. I was there. The stadium went crazy. It was surreal!!!
When i saw his dad going apoplectic I seriously cried. I can't even... I'm too soft. Congrats to the Camarena family!🤟🏽🍻
Pure magic! ⚾️⚾️⚾️😄
Love the content Rich
It was his brother, his father passed away 2 years ago.
Calling Don Orsillo the padre announcers is a damn shame, give the goat some respect!!!
We miss Don here in Boston!!! A majority of Sox fans were upset when he was replaced and a majority STILL haven't got over it!!
Living in San Diego and being a life time Padre fan… thanks for sending is Don
He has enjoyed americas finest city and the padres slam Diego more then in Boston
Trying to throw shade at Slam Diego for no reason.. big man
Here’s another fun stat about Duggleby... He still holds the Phillies Team record for hits batsmen. Now there’s an OLD GEN STAT
Wasn't really a bad pitch either, down and in with decent movement. Wouldn't expect a pitcher to hit that pitch out.
That's epic 💯
Mud screaming in the background is an underrated call
Red Sox fans beeeeen knowing about the greatness of Don Orsillo! Miss him calling sox games with Remy
then listen to the Nationals broadcast team call that moment. Its hilarious.
Awesome recap! One thing - Chase Utley’s first major league hit in 2003 was a grand slam.
The guy in the stands is his older brother. They interviewed him after the game.
Don Orsillo is the best announcer.
Thought I was watching a movie. It was a "Vin Scully" moment!! 🤪👍
It was his brother lol but still an amazing moment and reaction
You can’t tell me baseball isn’t romantic after this moment
I think the announcer might’ve been more stunned than Camarena was lmao
I still can‘t believe that we let this guy go.
You can hear Mud screaming in the background. Funny!!!! It was his brother. The way they are playing, I had to watch happier times.
Camerana's career stats are insane. 1.000 batting average, average hit is a grand slam
A rookie " pitcher " hit a grand slam off Scherzer.
That was his older brother with the cell phone. His dad died in 2019.
that's a "unicorns, show ponies, where's the beef call'.
That wasnt his dad. It was his brother
Anybody still want the DH in the National League?
8-0 lead with Max pitching and they lost. Biggest comeback by San Diego.
Among the best moments in Padre history which I don't think you'll ever see a relief pitcher hit a homer off future Hall Of famer Max Scherzer. He'll one day talk to his grand kids about it..
Not only was it Max Scherzer but it was a good pitch
Depressed Met fan here. Lost to Milwaukee last night, lost Alvarez. Lindor looks like he's still hurting. Camarena's improbable dinger with one of my top ten calls of all time is one of my go-to baseball anti-depressants.
Even listened to the fantastic post-game interview with Camarena's brother.
His brother, not his dad lol but, yeah, that was awesome!😱 😛😍
Musgrove’s no-hitter was the game of the year…the GS was the moment of the year!
That was Camarena's older brother!
Started 0-2 in the count too.
His second at bat first was 2016 or something and that was his brother his dad died two yrs ago
That was his brother, his dad passed away.
First it was his second ever at bat and second it was his brother not dad his dad passed away a couple years ago I only know this because they interviewed the brother after it happened
Hit a grand slam off Scherzer of all people with a god damn 9 iron.
A great moment. At least the rookie didnt have to worry about some unwritten rule
123 years!!!! Goood God lol
The son with the high pitched voice 👁️👄👁️
Dude sounds just like Gary Owen 🤣🤣
It's his brother. The dad passed away.
THE DISRESPECT to Huscar Ynoa
You know who else hit a Grand Slam in his first MLB start? Bobby Bonds
Yes but he wasn't a pitcher, this kid is the first pitcher since 1898 to hit a grand slam for his first hit
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
In 25 years the will interview Sherzer and ask him to sum up his career in one sentence and he will say..."I gave up a fucking grand slam to a pitcher" :)
Rich , that was Camarenas second at-bat. He was 0-1 statistically in his career. Awesome moment, but you're a pro. Be better than that. How can you not be romantic about baseball?
Too bad we’ll never see this again with the universal DH.
Rookie??? He looks 45!!!!! Still, very cool to be a relief pitcher hitting a slammie!!
Google is your friend. He is 28 and has spent a decade in 3 other teams farm systems before getting called up recently. Crazy storyline
He was 0 for 1 in his career before this SLAM
it was his brother
The guy was his brother
...nominee for game of the year.
That was his older brother not dad
He isn't even a player he is a pitcher
2nd at bat
We're in the east. Who are these people? They don't play in New York. Shall we count them, as part of things? We stubble into the lizard throwing a meatball, too an unknown reliever. He golfs it into the seats. W bases loaded.
Congrats to Daniel Camarena...the improbable impossible kookiness kinda reminded me of when reliever Rick Camp hit a game tying home run for the Braves in a rain soaked july 4/5 contest against the Mets in the 18th inning, anyone remember that?
I do that and I’m 35
come back to earth rich
How couldn't you be romantic about baseball
I'm sure his brother is feeling a little bit. Strange… People thinking that he looks like his father ha ha ha.
