i knew indonesia and malaysia language is similar but i didnt expect tagalog-
As i know Spanish and Portuguese , i totally would say Spain to the lady who speaks Catalan , even though í don't speak Catalan the sound is similar to other Latin languages , well Italian was easy for obvious reasons
if catalan come from france or italy will counfuse you for sure 🤣🤣
A funny thing, it's one of the few languages that has retained "res" to mean "thing" as in latin, but in catalan you can only use for negatives like to say you "don't have a thing" (no tinc res), "no-thing happens to me" (no em passa res) and similars.
As a Catalan from a deeper zone of Catalonia, I didn't like the way she pronounced the words, very spanishized and forced. She's from Barcelona so that's the reason

I am Italian-Canadian and I thought, "what is the language between Spanish and Italian but sounds more like Spanish?" Catalan!

As someone somewhat accustomed to Indonesian I could instantly recognize the area. Only distinguishing bahasa indonesia and and bahasa melayu is past my level.
Jessica and Julia had crazy chemistry! Did they know each other?
No we didn't hahahaha it was my first time meeting her too😂😂😂
As a native Malay speaker, she is very fluent for a non-native speaker in Malaysia and her R is not as typical as many Chinese Malaysians who can’t roll their Rs very well. Her R sounds like she could be from the northern part of Malaysia when r is pronounced as “gh”. And she is quite humble because pointing out her weakness is just a humble way to showcase herself instead of being too prideful with their own native languages and then put people down with that.

Hazeline spoke Malay well. Sure she has a very noticeable Chinese accent, but as long as the fluency is good then it’s already good. Syabas Hazeline!
Chinese accent? Its not like Chinese accent at all.
This girl seems not to distinguish between countries and continents))
I mean, well she is pure American
she’s american what do you expect
Cause she's an average american. she's perfectly fit that role
That could be explainable. I don't think the American education system teaches a lot on geography in terms of knowing the world perfectly. So, it depends on personal interests. She might not be interested in that and thus hasn't challenged herself with memorizing the map, but she could be perfect in other areas.
Well at least she knows Brazil doesn't speak Spanish and also can speak Korean... this is a Korean channel after all so I wouldn't expect too much
asking then to count from one to five was a good strategy but she unfortunately didn't remember the answer. If she does, she would realize the other two countries had similarities to Malaysia. Malay, Indonesian, Tagalog language are part of Austronesia Language Group.
Meanwhile, this was the first time I heard Chinese Malaysian spoke Malay. Despite on how good she spoke Malay, I could sense that she didn't used it in her daily life.

I’m sure Jessica is a nice girl, and guessing languages is really hard if you’re not exposed to them. What I’m going to say next is not meant to slight her, but I’m just wondering why she kept on saying “North Africa” when it’s not even a country? 🤔
Also, asking them to count from one to five is a good strategy but it’s going to be useless if you don’t even pay attention. Numbers in Austronesian languages are often similar, so while she wasn’t able to guess Malay, when it was time for the Indonesian and Tagalog speakers that came after that, she should’ve been able to hear the similarities when it comes to numbers in those languages and by process of comparison she should’ve been able to conclude that they come from the same region.
Oh well, we can’t really imagine being in her shoes, so all things considered we should really applaud her for giving her best 👏
Americans are so ignorant
Love catalan so much, and the girl who's speak it✨💖
She's polite and cute and loveble 😘😘😘
Thank you World Friends , great video and nice to see some more new faces .
You know, zero countries in the American continent speak solely native languages.
The closest is Guarani in Paraguay and i think Quechua in Peru. But in all of those Spanish is the main language. So saying Brazilians speak Brazilian is similar to think Americans speak American
"whatever they speak in north africa"
that would be mostly arabic and sounds nothing like that. Besides that many places in the area also speak french, which also sounds nothing like that.
She didn’t even try to say the name of a country in North Africa 🤡
i think for an american girl like her, any unknown language they hear would be later labeled as must be somewhere in africa lol
I thought about Berber when she said that, although I really don't know what it sounds like...
National Languages of Spain:
1) castellano
2) Catalan
3) Euskera/Basque
4) Galician
5) aragonés
6) caló (idioma gitano)😄
Aranès is an official language too in Catalonia.
Also Valencian depending on who you ask.
catalan is not only in Spain. Catalan is the official language in Andorra and is spoken in France and Italy too.
@marcayatsfigueras5828 true another detail Catalan is ones of the Occitan's sons til today.
We Brazilians can understand Catalan very well. I think it's even easier to understand than Portuguese from other countries and Spanish. For many of us, it sounds just like they are speaking Portuguese
Lmao, I'm German with one semester of A1 Spanish and I understood *all* of the Catalan here as well. The only thing I didn't understand was the word for strawberries 😂 Her sentences were very very very easy for anyone with the slightest knowledge of Romance vocabulary. Nothing to do with you being Brazilian 🤣
@andyx6827 of course it does. Portuguese is a romance language like Catalan. So obviously they share some similarities. We, who speak romance languages, don't even need to study ones another idioms to understand each others.
If you understand Catalan without speaking then you should know something of Occitan and Latin, because in good Catalan and Spanish do not look alike in the medium and advanced level they are not far apart even. A talker of Castilian will not get out of the face a talk of Valencian and Catalan of face it never happens.
Really? Portuguese and brazilian should be (almost) the same idiom...

Tagalog 🇵🇭 has some cognates of both languages and Spanish. Kumusta should have been the big giveaway 🙄. Spanish cognate.
English is an official language in Malaysia 🇲🇾, Singapore 🇸🇬 and The Philippines 🇵🇭. I traveled to the latter 2 nations.
English is not an official language in Malaysia. It's only Malay. But English is spoken widely as a second language so it's not surprising that foreigners would think English is an official language here. Some of us are even more fluent in English than Malay.
nope, english isn't an official language of malaysia .. but english is spoken widely by most malaysians and it's considered as the most important language for education

You’re pretty right. Anyway, the Catalan language has many sounds (g, j, à, è, x, etc) that don’t exist in Spanish. In fact, surprisingly enough, eastern Catalan sounds pretty close to the European Portuguese accent !. But , as you said, its vocabulary is pretty close to Occitan, French and Italian.
In Indonesia, there is more than 700 language and Bahasa Indonesia is lingua franca for all Indonesian so Bahasa usually second language after their ethnic language. I guess the Indonesian girl is Javanese based on her Indonesian accent so maybe she can use Javanese language for next project.

@@Ama94947 the sound is very similar, but the Rhotacism is a Dyslalia generally caused by a morphological defect, usually the frenulum of the tongue too short, that prevent people for pronouncing rhotic consonants correctly. But, in some Italian areas people don't pronounce the Voiced dental, alveolar and postalveolar trills but some other variants, in Valle d'Aosta for example people use the Voiced uvular trill (like in French and German), in Veneto the Voiced retroflex flap like in Japanese etc.

I thought Hazeline did a great job with Malay. I like how she didn't use the Johor-Riau dialect (the Upin Ipin dialect, which is the standard dialect of Malay in Malaysia). Her Malay is the variety spoken by a lot of Chinese Malaysians who don't speak Malay as their main language but only speak it as a second or even third language or in official occasions.
I personally think that this variety of Malay should be acknowledged as the Chinese-Malaysian variety of Bahasa Melayu in Malaysia, just because a LOT of Malaysians speak this way and it's a huge part of the Malaysian identity. Kinda like how they have African American Vernacular English in the USA.
the American lady reminds me so much of the girl from the Orphan movie. so pretty tho

"Chao" is the wrong spelling, it is spelled: "ciao". But don't worry I've seen it written worse, in Portuguese it is spelled "Tchau" which as a Catalan that learnt Italian before learning Portuguese seen that made my eyes bleed.

that Brazilian lady got so much bubbly vibes! 😆
The american girl thinks that in the US they learn a lot about other cultures and countries 😂
No she said there are a lot of different cultures, and that we learn a tiny bit about each. Which is true- but it obviously depends a lot on which state & area you’re from. For instance there’s a smaller city in Michigan (middle of US) that has a 93% Arabic population. Chicago also has a huge Italian population. And Texas & californa have a lot of Hispanic (mostly Mexican) so it’s not uncommon for people from those states to know Spanish more than the rest of the country. Pretty much anywhere in the US though you most likely had Spanish, Asian (mostly Chinese/Korean), & middle Eastern Arabic people at your schools growing up so we all typically know broader information about those cultures. My best friends in highschool & one of my boyfriends afterwards were both Puerto Rican so I happen to know a lot about their culture even though I’m in a small college town in the south east 🤷🏼♀️ It’s different everywhere. My friend here married a Turkish immigrant who went on to open a popular business in town so we all kinda learned about Turkey (especially because he had his brothers around too). In college I waitressed for years with a guy & his mom who moved here from Australia after the big fires. Also had a good friend from St. Kitts which is one of the smallest countries in the world that no one globally (in a broad sense) would know anything about but I learned a bunch. It’s truly sooo random 😂 that’s the US for ya.
But yes obviously there are many ignorant & discriminatory people here (unfortunately) but even they will have friends of different cultures because it’s inevitable here. People around 40 yrs old & younger have done a MUCH better job than the people who are over the age of 45 have- so it’s definitely getting better 😊
Wow- didn’t realize I wrote a whole page 🤣 I didn’t mean to

I think she thought Portuguese was a mic of french and japanese 'cause it:.
The Brazilian portuguese always say every single silable, like japanese, so some words looks like japanese 'cause they have the same phonetic, like arara, caro, massa, a lot of words.
But portuguese also have a lot of nasal vowels(ã this accent does it be nasal, like an, in) and french every time does it, at tgis part french and portuguese is really close, so words like amanhã, maçã, um, contar sound french, and a lot of words has the stressed silable at the finish, like the verbs, and it is part of the french phonetic, like cantar, chorar, dançar (verbs) sabiá, amanhã, maçã, cocô.
So sometimes portuguese can look like a mix of french and japanese accent but looking like spanish 'cause the vocabulary.
I'm brazilian:D
Also the way the brazilians palatalise their te and de is so japanese
It was linguistical disaster when she compared japanese and portuguese, Portuguese is never tonal and have high tone.
Japane is tonal idiom that uses low and medium tone, in common argot pitch accent.

Nahhh they're putting flags there to generate more views

In fairness, Asian languages are grossly underrepresented in the West and three were used here so A for effort 🙂
Everyone should try the croquetas honestly!!
That Brazilian woman is the most beautiful woman here.
Julia is AWESOME!! 🇧🇷💕💯
Thank youuuu❤
Wait, she didn't get the first one right, Brazilian isn't a language, but Julia is so kind-hearted that we may forget about that 🤭
The Malay girl the way she speaks like Indonesian 😅
She is a Malaysian. Malay is an ethnicity not a nationality
In fact, the language used by the Malaysian girl is completely Indonesian. Correct me if I'm wrong
Yes she did but at home she speaks Hokkien Chinese among her family.
Kamu salah faham mengenai bahasa melayu.
@@JosephOccenoBFHExactly because my Chinese friends have visited Malaysian Chinese restaurants but they don't speak Malaysian, only English and Chinese.
@@edyeem2276 No offense, tetapi ketika dia diminta untuk menghitung angka 1 sampai 5, dia hanya menggunakan bahsa indo.
Yang seharus nya : satu, due, tige, empat, lime.
Menjadi : satu, dua, tiga, empat, lima.
Dan masih banyak lagi.
But it's okay, this is just a fun game
nope you're wrong. It's Malay but maybe you confused it with Indonesian because she spoke without the accent that you might associate with Malay mostly spoken in Malaysia. both languages are quite similar, after all
When playing “guess the language” game, you can ask how to say 1-10, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, family members like father, mother, brother, natural object, sun, moon ,tree, river… asking these can help you recognizing the language family, group, branch of the language you are guessing, or what language have influenced the language your guessing. For example when you hear lima, so you know it’s an austronesian lanaguage, or a language influenced by a Austronesian language, and listen carefully the sound of the language you are guessing, and you can ask about climate, geography, culture, and blah blah blah
In one sentence the Filippina girl managed to put a Spanish term (trabajo) and an English one (Professional), it should have given it was Tagalog.
Often in those videos people hesitate between Mlay/Indonesian/Tagalog, and Thai (+sometimes Viet) and I think those 2 goups are so different ! (because Thai/Viet are tonal)
Netherland 😭😭 okayy former colonyyyy
She didn't notice for 5 in Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, and Tagalog is "Lima" 😅
It's easier for you to say since you speak one of the language.. if u never listen the language, u won't notice anything
@@paranoya733 indeed.. Totally agree with you..

Kalo masih bocah sel otaknya memang kurang berkembang jadi susah memahami pemikirian & kondisi orang lain, masih self-centric.
