Skinceutical Vitamin C has made a huge difference to my skin. I’m 73. It has evened out and brightened my skin tone. This has improved how I look even more than retinols.

I have super duper sensitive skin and going with more expensive products that have clinicals behind them has made a huge difference. I’m just turning 30 so still very young but I’ve been using Sente, Alastin, and Neostrata consistently and they’ve made a huge difference in my skin compared to what I was using before.

If you’re confused, here is the difference between 3 Matrixyls peptide complexes.
    1) Matrixyl: Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4
    2) Matrixyl 3000: Mixture of Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7
    3) Matrixyl Synthe 6: Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38
    Matrixyl functions:
They are messenger peptides capable of regulating cell activities by interacting with their specific receptors. They activate certain genes involved in the process of extracellular matrix renewal and cell proliferation. By activating the neosynthesis of extracellular matrix macromolecules, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 provides an anti-wrinkle effect.
    Matrixyl 3000 functions:
Involve in skin's regenerating processes, increase skin density and elasticity, soften skin roughness, and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
    Matrixyl synthe 6 functions:
Even out skin relief and smooth wrinkles from the inside by rebuilding the skin where it is needed, particularly on the forehead and crow's feet. Wrinkle filling is its primary function.

Skin better is sold only through affiliation to a medical doctor (dermatologist or plastic surgeon, other clinician), so I understand why dermatologists and PS would recommend. When you go to the website (as of Feb 2024), you have to put in a MDs name prior to purchasing.
At $190 for the Alto serum…maybe I’ll splurge even if just to try the ascorbic acid alternative

Last night I just ordered another Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, Sunscreen and AlphaRet cream.
Last week I ordered CeraVe peptide cream and L’Oréal Retinol serum from Target.
I’ve gotten over thinking designer skincare is always better but there are hero products that are worth the splurge and others that can be just as good in the affordable category.
SKII essence has always been my splurge. It balances me out when my skin is sensitive, acne prone, dry. It has always just given my skin what it needs

    • @sfkat

Who can afford these products? I disagree with some of your purchases but do agree about the SKII essence, there is just something about that. As far as C, Hard to beat Geek & Gorgeous, Naturium or the new Prequel Lucent C. Beauty Niche Lab has Excellent products and free shipping. Their peptide serum and glycerin serums are excellent, as is the PIH Serum which has really helped with pigmentation. I use Tretinioin which is the best type of vitamin a.

I wonder what will happen when the Skinceuticals patent expires in 2025? There are already a LOT of CEF serums at different price points but all still cheaper than the Skinceuticals. Maelove's Peptide Squad multi-action serum has Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu), Matrixyl 3000, Argireline, and rice peptides for around $48 (when it's not sold out). The also have a retinal which is supposedly good for sensitive skin. Have you tried the Shani Darden retinol which also has lactic acid?

As a MUA, I stand *More Expensive ≠ More Quality* with all my soul, I' ve done "blind make up looks" with low cost products revealing after what was actually used and there are still people picking their jaw from the floor😅😆. I hate recognizing it but _give to the Cæsar what belongs to the Cæsar_ , *Medik8 RetinAL* is a godsend for people with extreamly sensitive and complaining skin when it comes to retinoids. It' s the only one I can tolerate without breaking out and I' ve tried absolutely all both OTC and with prescription for more than 10 years. My derm was about to try a master formula so I could benefit from a retinoid but it finally was not necessary🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. Overpriced? Maybe🤷🏻‍♀️ but I' m not paying for packaging bragging or stupid fancy whatever. I pay for great results that I cannot find anywhere else.

    • @lukastemberger

The way retinol works is irritating by nature if your skin is not used to it. If you use a retinol cream that causes no irritation, I'd argue it means it's not effective.
My skin was on fire for over a month when I started Tretinoin. Irritated, flaky, people thought I had constant sun burn. But I kept pushing and using it every day, not buffering either. After a month or so, my skin got used to it and now I can use Tretinoin .1 with zero issues. My skin looks better than 10 years ago.

  • @frankiefavero1666
    @frankiefavero1666 10 часов назад

Sure, Dr Liu, but if you understand skincare, you understand that the concentrations, in a given product are shown in the ingredients list in order of what is most available... So if Skinceuticals lists their L Ascorbic Adic as a third ingredient, at 15%, and Timeless also lists their L Ascorbic acid as a 3rd ingredient, at 20%, and then the tocopherol and Ferulic acid are listed in the same order, as ingredients and in the SAME concentrations, then the DUPE that is 1/4 of the price is the BETTER option, wouldn't you think?! However, there is no formulation that comes close to Alpharet Intensive Night Cream, so, in my mind, INVEST your money in a unique and novel formula that has not been replicated, and don't waste your money on a VitC+Tocopherol+Ferulic Acid formula that has been recreated (and stabilised) more effectively by others... This is coming from a skincare formulator btw...

It doesn’t actually matter; stay aware of the funders, because they’re looking for a certain outcome, but that doesn’t mean the results are faked. Will they refuse to compare the product to cheaper competitors that perform equally well? Sure. Does that mean their product doesn’t actually work? No, the study results are the study results.
