- New Mother Summer brings her newborn baby boy over to Mom Jingga and
1 year old Jarang. The encounter is brief as Summer quickly moves Jingga along
the branch.
Update from June 2024
Baby Jarang is soon to be undergoing a medical operation for his bi-lateral scrotal hernia.
The Zoo is hoping this will help his mobility and they have been waiting for him to get strong enough for the procedure.
The enclosure was very busy with keepers and veterinarians observing Jingga and Jarang
and mom kept him very close to her all day.
He looked much stronger than we have seen him before and was climbing up his mother
and clinging on to her very well.

On the 14th June 2023 she gave birth to a critically endangered Bornean baby orangutan, her first baby, a boy, was fathered by Kawan, who has recently moved to Blackpool Zoo in 2022 from Apenheul Zoo in the Netherlands, after the previous male, Ramon, did not produce any offspring with the female group at Blackpool Zoo

I'm so encouraged by this video!! I knew that having Summer in the same enclosure would help Jinnga handle Jarang differently. You can see her watching Summer. And Summer showing dominance is actually going to be good for Jinga. Thanks so much for this video!! I feel that now there is great hope for him!!

Oh, Jarang at the end! When Jingga moves him up and he grips onto her back - he's gotten so much stronger! You can see how with two hands he's got a firm grip. Jingga still moves him around weirdly but I think it's established by now that her methods are unconventional - the fact the little man can grip just fine is a great sign
He is certainly stronger, I was really pleased to see him trying to climb up his mother. 🥰

I think Jingga keeps Jarang closer now because Summer is there … holding him when he sleeps now. She’s so sweet

I was quite surprised how she moved her along!
It's hard to tell from brief clips, but it seems like Jingga might be learning some things from watching Summer. She is carrying Jarang on her upper body now and even holding him more in front of her. I haven't ever seen her carry him on her back like she does in the end, that is really good.

It is very visible that Jarang does hang on like normal baby orangutans. So many people have said he couldn't! I realise he didn't always but probably because je didn't have to. She hangs on to him with a vice like grip, nothing is getting out of it! I havnt seen him grip with his feet in all the videos and pictures I have trawled the Internet to find, but again maybe he just didn't need to.
I wonder if she ever takes him to the intersepting gates between rooms to teach him how to climb? I guess maybe he can't because of his little football scrotum. Soon he will be all over the place. My heart melts for Jarang about twenty times a minute when I watch his videos.
Yes hopefully after his operation he will gain some mobility. He has definitely got stronger. 🥰
Now that Jarang is getting older he wants to do more. So, hopefully this operation works out great & he can play catch up on his development! I also hope Summer & Jingga doesn't end up like Sari w/Kendari & Surya w/Nilah in Vienna Zoo. Sari bullies Surya and is mean chases her & everything else for no reason. Of course babies learn from their parents & you can see it in little Kendari being kind of aggressive or over confident. I only say this because Summer wasn't trying to get past her (at least from what the video shows. Idk about after the video ended). She just wanted Jingga to move when there was plenty of space. She didn't want that spot! I will be positive that them together will help them both to raise their little ones right. Do we know when they're planning the surgery yet? Thank you for the videos!!❤❤❤
I hope nothing competitive or bully-ish comes out in this setting. Jingga’s a little sweetheart, partly because she’s still young and also, think it’s her nature.
It's easy to forget how much Jarang HAS grown! Then you see a nb 😊 yes, he's small, blah, blah, blah,. Small but mighty!🧡
Jinga looks very irritated at being told to move bless her. It will be nice when they are finally let out of that room!

Summer dont be a Bully! You are not the queen. Theres a pecking order but im not sure which female is in charge. But when your inside with your lil one your in Jinga and Jarang's house. Ship up or ship out!! LOL i know its not that way im just joking. Im excited for Jarang's surgery so ge can show all of us what hes made of.

Orangutans don’t have troops. Summer does look like Miss Bossy Pants though
Summer is older than Jingga and has been at the zoo a lot longer, I was surprised to see her move Jingga along considering that Jingga has been in that enclosure for a year.

She did seem a bit oblivious to Jarang hanging up there.
