thank the Lord I finally found this video again. I had forgotten the song name and the singer's name, and I was trying to find it again. RUclips algorithm finally came through after months of looking !
Just like Johnny Cash, it's not always about the chords, it's the lyrics, this is a perfect example of modern story telling music. Not to mention, he is awesome live.
Somebody needs to take this guy's guitar and smash it against the wall like Belushi did in Animal House when that folk singer was singing on the stairs. I gave my love an apple??
i have been a big fan of everything this dude has done since i heard him for the girst time drunk at a party about a year ago. i think his lyrics and voice are what really makes him good. the simplicity and stripped down air about his music is also another thing to dig about him. to each his own. looking forward to seeing him live for the first time in novmeber!
man i love this song... dont know what brings me back to this song but this is like the 4th time iv pulled this up... im definately hittin up a willie show the next time he gets near home or MN 5* by me
First time I seen/heard him was 4 or 5 years ago when he opened for Clutch. I was wondering who the hell he was and holy shit what a performance. Not to mention I seen him in Edmonton Alberta and found out during the show he was from a town a few hours south of where I was born and raised which was in itself f'n awesome! Great guy, great tunes!
Maybe because I'm not from the area, and I don't know the radio station, but to me, the DJ is completely out of focus. I've watched this video, maybe, 30/40 times, and every time at the end of it I ask myself if the DJ was even paying somewhat attention to William Elliott Whitmore. The man has poured his soul into his music, and all the DJ says is "bravo". Always struck me as strange…
His lyrics are awesome. I don't know who those 4 dislikes are. He played for us(I'm on the talent committee) at the RiverSong festival in Hutchinson, MN, last year. He put on a great show! It was getting near the end of his set and he hadn't done "Devils" yet. He broke a guitar string. So with just one song left, he pulled out his banjo and played this song. It was just as good. See him live if you can.
Who's this guy and where's the old black man I've been listening to on Pandora?! This is incredible! I haven't been this shocked to put a face to a voice since Colter Wall.
I'd never heard of Dax Riggs, but I'm glad you mentioned him because he sounds really cool.. Maybe disturbing wasn't the best word for the lyrics of this song. I just meant that it makes you think about things that are going on in the world that are fucked up and most people don't even acknowledge.
Some people just don't get it, oh well. I saw this guy open for Clutch about 5yrs ago, we were blown away with his set. Just him and a banjo. Glad to see he's still going.
@sloucho84 It has to do with me enjoying music while drunk? This, along with a large amount of other country, folk and bluegrass music, is excellent music to have playing in the background whilst imbibing the spirits! Why is that the only thing in my post you chose to inquire about? Anyways, still a huge fan of WEW and will be seeing him for the first time this coming Monday since he was sick and didn’t play last time he was scheduled too! Cannot F’N Wait!!
Great video. For fans of Acoustic Music check out SION RUSSELL JONES who just released his debut album 'And Suddenly...' on Still Small Voice records. Those of you who are on Spotify can also listen to the album free of charge. Enjoy x
@inov8ve -- well ummm... technically, to be exact... those microphones, that pickup on his acoustic, those cameras on him and this internet you're watching it's umm...nevermind. : ) ..can i get a whoop whoop for electricity!
i've just discovered him and i must say i am quite impressed with his voice. I do not know if he writes his own stuff or not but i do feel the lyrics are a bit too explicit for the genre. It takes a bit of the poetry away ... still amazing voice.
How are they too explicit for the genre? Demented lyrics date back deeply especially with older blues. Dig into the old swamp blues. This song isn't even remotely demented in the slightest.
He does write his own songs. I think the lyrics are disturbing, but they're supposed to be. If they weren't he wouldn't be as passionate when he was singing them.
this is the badest motherfucker around, if you don't like it its probably about you. Its refreshing to hear real music with real lyrics about real issues.
This is remarkably good, so here I am, remarking it.
One of the best songs that a human being ever created, Thank you for this one from Germany
It really is, and i don't understand why Whitmore isn't a much more widely known name.
absofckinlutely!!!

You compared him to Johnny Cash?????? Your off your meds again right?
excellent job! great to hear someone singing the truth. good to see that folk music is still alive and well. this guy is great!
Somebody needs to take this guy's guitar and smash it against the wall like Belushi did in Animal House when that folk singer was singing on the stairs. I gave my love an apple??

been listening to this on Spotify all day i thought it was a brothers voice wow he sounds good
My dad sent me his song and said, ‘you like demented shit, right?’ And then played this. I was like holy shit this is awesome
Deep not demented.
Man, that guy is too damn good!
So powerful and amazing, I love this song and his voice is ❤️
That is a 30 year old man. Somehow has 65 years of oak-aged voice.
That’s because he’s educated and those old devils he’s talking about are the ones that want to ban books and cheap/free higher education
Sounds like a mighty oak
Such a unique and chilling voice! Love it!
you don't need complex chords if you can capture emotion and soul through words like this man
The four dislikes most of been from the old devils. I guess their at it again.
How did you get so Witty? listening to shit music like this.
Ric Zuniga - Says the d-bag who gets off on trolling RUclips comments. Keep sucking at life. You do it well.
When I say devils, you know who I mean.
They'll never stop
and you know what that means...we outnumber them big time. dont forget it
Absolutely amazing. The constant build sets such an amazing tone. 🎸🤩
Einer der allerbesten Künstler denen ich seit lange zuhören durfte... GREAT!!!!!!
Another new favourite vocalist of the year, along with Yoland Quarty (Phantom Limb) and CW Stoneking
best song of 09 so far, no doubt
man i love this song... dont know what brings me back to this song but this is like the 4th time iv pulled this up... im definately hittin up a willie show the next time he gets near home or MN 5* by me

Great musician, in al his simplicity !
Simplicity allows the emotion and passion to reign supreme. Over complicate it and it drains the life out of it .
This RUclips video introduced me to WEW, and have been a fan ever since. Touched my soul.
You are definitely, easily amused. This munch isn't fit to wipe Bob Dylan's ass,but don't think twice it's alright.
Ric Zuniga - You're a spoon fed d-bag.
A fantastic song and a fantastic voice! i heard him at jools holland and i like the sound from the first moment.
Fantastic
Im not sure how KEXP pulls such raw talent but to me, who enjoys this type of artist, is unparalleled.

You must be comparing him to Justin Timberlake or Clay Akin. You must be a claymate.
i'm with love with this man...
This is so spot on 8 years down the road, almost prophetic, if I wasn't an skeptic.
I've had this thought once or twice
Just watched outcast and this was the end song. He’s amazing!
What a song
he is a pretty amazing guy, i went to school with him in donnellson,ia
Amazing Amazing Amazing Voice
Awesome performance.

See him live if i can????? What'd i ever do to you?? I heard they played this non stop at Guantanamo Bay.
WEW has made some quite remarkable albums already...! Love is music/Voice !
I just saw him at bonnaroo. It was amazing!!
Awesome song!
a friend sent me here. good stuff! Like this man's style.
Who's this guy and where's the old black man I've been listening to on Pandora?!
This is incredible! I haven't been this shocked to put a face to a voice since Colter Wall.
I've seen him live many times. Just now realizing what the lyrics actually mean. Sad world.
I like this version! It's cool that he changed the lyrics.
wow, I think I'm in love.
so good
What a terrific singer. Good emotion. Red dead redemption brought me here hehe.
WOW! Great performance, I am a new fan! :-)
2 Gen xers sharing drinks and lamenting stories. This hits different.

@jagman4040 it's "black iowa dirt" as in, the color of the dirt in iowa where he grew up and lives. but you're right, awesome song.
I'd never heard of Dax Riggs, but I'm glad you mentioned him because he sounds really cool.. Maybe disturbing wasn't the best word for the lyrics of this song. I just meant that it makes you think about things that are going on in the world that are fucked up and most people don't even acknowledge.
I happen to like both Elliot and William. Also I love POS. ha
Some people just don't get it, oh well. I saw this guy open for Clutch about 5yrs ago, we were blown away with his set. Just him and a banjo. Glad to see he's still going.
You got paid how much to say this?
@@riczuniga2736 5 dollars and a beer
Dylan must be proud of this man. It is an incredible song in the spirits of Master of War.

Great video. For fans of Acoustic Music check out SION RUSSELL JONES who just released his debut album 'And Suddenly...' on Still Small Voice records. Those of you who are on Spotify can also listen to the album free of charge. Enjoy x
Wow! He sings and plays with so much emotion. Inflamed is right lol
i dont find his lyrics disturbing by any means. i think someone like dax riggs has more disturbing lyrics especially with his acid bath stuff.
@inov8ve -- well ummm... technically, to be exact... those microphones, that pickup on his acoustic, those cameras on him and this internet you're watching it's umm...nevermind. : ) ..can i get a whoop whoop for electricity!
I wish I could do this at karaoke
what type of martin is this? d-15? or what? im not sure.
i've just discovered him and i must say i am quite impressed with his voice. I do not know if he writes his own stuff or not but i do feel the lyrics are a bit too explicit for the genre. It takes a bit of the poetry away ... still amazing voice.

This song isn't even remotely demented in the slightest.
You may be comfortable listening to some Ariana Grande.
@crowan83 What does you being drunk have to do with anything?
Seems the Old Devils have doubled...
@thekohlton whats wrong with the lyrics i enjoy them (:
Good God!LOL!

@rhittratt342 Pretending? What's that supposed to mean?

Brazil's election 2022 theme
Mmmhhhmmm....
hey big tough guy on the internet, you scary guy you
D minor for 1 bar, A major for 2 bars, D minor for 1 bar; repeat.
Matt Landon So what's your point?
I can't even express how little I think of this individual's effort.
Only two year olds think that being "inflamed" is the way to self expression.
Cheshire Agusta must be difficult to be so intellectually slow that you can’t even explain your discomfort.
whats wrong with the host? a sad little "bravo" is the best he can come up with?
"DJ" El Toro suckz!!!!!
Indeed he does
He does write his own songs. I think the lyrics are disturbing, but they're supposed to be. If they weren't he wouldn't be as passionate when he was singing them.
this is the badest motherfucker around, if you don't like it its probably about you. Its refreshing to hear real music with real lyrics about real issues.
