- This is the update video about the calf that I pulled in the last video. I tried to do everything I could for this little guy but in the end it just wasn’t enough.

Why am I so sad about one little calf 2000 miles away from me? Partly because I am a softhearted old Papaw but mainly because I can tell how this affected you Tyler. It is clear that these animals are way more than a paycheck to you. I'm sure better days are ahead.
Me too my friend and I'm on the other side of the pond in England. Hell I'm all choked up for that little fella and Tyler.
😊
I'm sorry Tyler. You tried your best. And as you said- not every story has a happy ending.
Plenty of people will tel you what you should have done. The truth is, you were right you got there a little too late, because you didn't know, and the fact you got him going against all odds was a miracle in itself. You care, and that is all that is needed.
Farmer Tyler, The next time this happens instead of using a bottle use an esophageal feeder. Measure from the end of his nose to the angle of the jaw bone add 3" to this length. That way when You stick the probe in his mouth the milk will go into the stomach and not the lungs. Also give the calf a shot of 20cc's of Bo Bax 2x antiserum subcue behind the front shoulder. Your main concern now is the health of Mother. Make sure she has cleaned herself good. Any signs of a vaginal discharge, give her 30 ccs of penicillican and deposit some antiseptic boluses in the Vaginal tract. This should always be done when You pull a calf under the conditions You did. Ask Your Vet about all of this to confirm I've told You the truth. You did a
good job pulling the calf. Next time You and the calf and the cow will win!!!
@@Sammy-tg9fd Try Valley Vet Supply. It has protective antibodies that stimulate the immune system.
My thoughts exactly my husband always tubes with colostrum if there is any questions.
@@suewilson2452 You married a smart guy Sue. I'm sure he's a lucky guy to have You also.
Now this is good structural criticism.
Agree. Esophageal feeders are life lines and very easy to use. Calves are incredibly resilient if you can get some nourishment in them relatively early. Ideally he'd receive a quart or so of colostrum within the first 6 to 12 hours. On the cow, most vets I've been around have moved away from the antiseptic boluses, but of course that varies.
Don't beat yourself up. Plus, Mama did splendid. You did your best. Grandma always said "Life can't be all sugar". proud of your take on the situation my new friend...
Sometimes the answer to a prayer is no but that doesn't take away from the heartfelt effort.
I was praying! But you're right, sometimes the answer is no...for whatever reason.
RIP little calf. You did all you could Tyler
When you do your best, that is what is important, it doesn't mean you will always get the desired outcome , you are a good man.
Agree!
Mom is upset 😢
@@cynthiarogers2904 , yes he did do his very best!!!
👍The bad parts of having animals is you dont want to over step to quickly & just let mother nature do its thing but then again it sucks when you feel like you didnt do something quick enough. But you tried & did your best.Along with life comes death😣
Yes that’s exactly right! Thank you Amanda
💯
You said it perfectly. It’s exactly right. Thank you for that.
It's just sad & ridiculous all people DONT see it like that.... its the circle of life. 💖 your channel even tho I'm not a farmer LOL
These things happen, but all you can do is keep learning from every experience. That's why I keep watching channels like yours. We use an esophageal feeder to get colostrum into a calf's belly if it doesn't suck, but I don't know if it would have helped.
In situations like this I find it better to tube them. It gets the colostrum faster and is less stress. But even doing all we can, sometimes its just not enough. Great effort!
I was surprised that you didn’t get colostrum down him the first couple hours. I keep a bag of it and a stomach tube around. I remember studies that show survival drops rapidly after a couple hours of no colostrum. You might want to consider keeping some handy
I was thinking the same thing
Maybe that is best for an abandoned calf. But the mom was very attentive to her calf. Giving her a chance is the gamble we have to choose sometimes. I would of done the same as Tyler. With the same outcome. I do give my recieved calf's colostrum within an hour of receiving because I don't know how long they were left without.
Many prayers to all with stepping in, when the mothers can't do it.
@@arbuckleoakshomestead6800 never “assume”
That’s what I’ve learned through the years. I tube when most ranchers would let the calf be.
I think the same thing . You have seen that it was not thrifty that night ! And you should have colostrum on hand instead of wasting time trying to catch the mother to harvest some colostrum . The calf should have lived . You have so many cows , being better prepared for emergencies is the lesson learned here . Sorry to be this straight forward
@@edandrenateburns3170 I have been equally straight forward in my comment. That calf would have lived given prompt attention and farmer Tyler needs to learn how to tube feed. It was obvious that calf was going to need time to get on his feet.
This is heartbreaking. I'm a retired healthcare provider at Sutter Roseville in the Trauma ICU. You can't save every one.
You gave it a valiant effort, Tyler. I'm sorry it didn't work out.
Life on the ranch isn’t always easy. Don’t blame yourself, you did everything you could Ty. I’m proud of you for the love and caring that you show all your animals. 💕💕💕💕
Great video! It’s a tough video, but it shows the reality of farm life.
God doesn’t ask us to be perfect, He asks us to do our best. You certainly did your best!
Tyler you did everything you could. You did your best. RIP baby.
Sorry about the calf, hang in there. I appreciate your videos.
Well produced video. Ag 101 moving forward brother. Could've should've, would,ve. Did what needed to done
You did everything you could and the mom is alive.
The long and difficult labor the mother had, along with the birth presentation made a positive outcome difficult. Very little would have changed the end results. Even on the best delivery's you have failure to thrive. Never easy when you loose one. The ole shoulda coulda woulda always plays in our head.
: .
Humanity and a caring soul wonderful qualities but difficult when you are a very busy farm/ranch.
@@kittymr.hedgehog7457 Indeed and well said. I believe Tyler is much more then what we see on RUclips, husband, father, full time AG biologist and working hard to be a full time farmer/rancher,
I don’t like click bait videos but I was really hoping this one was gonna be “some stories doesn’t have a happy ending……but this one does!” You did everything you could and if I learned anything watching what happened, I’d say maybe should have got him some milk that night instead. Like you said though, who knows if that would have even made a difference. You’re definitely a great farmer and will unfortunately experience this a time or two more, down the road. You did good
Tyler, you were so gentle with this little calf, and I know how much you want to get to live. Sometimes things just aren’t in our favor. I’m so very, very sorry for the loss of this little calf❣️
I am fairly certain that there will be negative comments sent to you, but I won’t be one of them. Instead, I will applaud you for the effort you made in the kindness you showed a little calf, as well as the cow/ Mother. Anybody who tells you that you should’ve done this or you should’ve done this doesn’t have a clue about how precious/tenacious a newborn can be and just because you try something doesn’t mean it’s going to live. I watched your channel for a long time Tyler., and I have no doubt that you did your very best. Thank you for that and God bless you.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Good evening Tyler,
It was a sad and heavy heart that I write this last comment to you regarding the loss of the little calf. I want to call it buddy but later you called another calf buddy so I hesitate to say that but that’s what you called it the whole time you were rubbing on him and coaching him to try to reach For Life. Sometimes when I wanna be comfortable myself, I watch your videos because there’s such a tenderness about you and compassion. Enjoy for life and it emoji through your words and your tone of voice as well as your body language and I appreciate it very much. I started watching your videos, these last five or six and I find myself tearing up with a lot of this calf, but also how much it hurt you to lose it. I think you’re the kindest farmer I’ve ever seen not on each towards the baby because towards the cows themselves. I am really glad you’re going to keep the cow and not send her off because she lost a calf to the sail bar, I am glad you appreciated the fact that she was a gentle and tender with her calf and how painful it must’ve been for her to know she was losing her little one!! I know that farmers would’ve just taken it in their stride and dug a hole in outback Moved on and I know that’s not your way. At least not according to the videos, I’ve been watching and the man I see you then. Your wife must be so happy to have you as a husband and a father to her children and also as her cattleman rancher because how can you watch these videos and not man with him
To those of you who want to write negative comments to Tyler
My first instinct is to say just shame on you, but after watching this video and being so moved by it, I want to say to you maybe you need to look within yourself and what is your failing that makes you want to hurt a man SO GRAND ??
THANK YOU TYLER, FOR MAKING AN EXCELLENT VIDEO AND HAVING A COURAGE TO STAND BEFORE AND SHOW VAKED TRUTH About A SPECIAL LITTLE CALF, WHO FOUGHT A FIGHT, AND DID NOT WIN. GOD BLESS YOU, TYLER FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID FOR THIS LITTLE CALF AND HIS MOTHER AND BE THE MAN YOU ARE WHO WOULD BE WILLING TO POST THIS VIDEO.!! I ALSO WANT TO TAKE TIME TO THANK YOU FOR BANDING YOUR CALVES RATHER THAN CUTTING THEM ❣️❣️ I agree with you. It is definitely more humane. And thank you to show the equipment that you use so those of us who never seen it before now have a better understanding of the process so we can have the confidence to support banding.!
Your biggest fan on Farmer, Tyler Ranch, Vickie M. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am sorry for your loss.
Dang, I was praying for the little guy. So sorry this happed to you guys. Thank you for the update.
So sorry for the loss Tyler. The young heifer is an excellent prospect for your herd as, like you said her mothering skills are wonderful, and she was super in the squeeze chute. The entire experience she never tried to hurt you and was cooperative. Nice young calf less “cow”. Once again sorry for the loss, both emotionally and financially. Being a rancher is not for sissy’s or the faint of heart. You have to make the decisions you feel are right at the time....and then you have to live with those decisions. Forward young man we are with you.
Thank you Robyn!
Dealing with heartaches like these is hard enough when alone out in the field......but making a compelling video through all that, and sharing it, I thank you very much.
Always frustrating and heartbreaking. One suggestion would be to get a tube feeder, have personally seen miracles using mine. Best of luck, always impressed with your efforts.
You are such a compassionate soul, Tyler. GOD BLESS YOU🙏🏼♥️‼️
Your compassion speaks volumes
Tyler, we all do the best we can! You’re so right when said that we make the best decisions we can with the info that we have at the time! I’m so sorry for you and the calf! Momma is a beautiful cow and will serve you well in the future! Much love to your family and your herd! Kristin from Oklahoma 💖💖💖
The hardest part is always when you think you could do something more or else...but in the end thats the life we are liveing...
I've been there. Sorry about the calf.
Sorry for the outcome. You are amazing caring rancher and did everything to give baby calf a chance. Really appreciate the great videos and patience you take to explain.
Alot of folks watch videos like this and within seconds miraculously can come up with solutions to what you should have done. Having just lost a born alive goat kid I can say all the would of"s and should of's in the world wouldn't have changed the reality of the situation. All you can do is what you have known to do by past experience and all the arm chair quarterbacking in the world doesn't change the fact that this calf was not a healthy calf from the beginning. Doesn't make the loss easy I know, but all you can do is what you do. Thank you for sharing the good and the bad, its a learning tool for us all.
I like your comment near the end of your video - you learned from this. There were many factors - breech birth, good first time mama, off farm job demands, the unexpected, excellent herding of mama to the chute, knowledgeable handling of calf in your side-by-side, and as my farmer neighbor expresses it : how do we deal with our finite band width. You are always learning and getting wiser with every opportunity to make decisions. Farming is character building. Thanks for being real.
I love how much you care for your animals. Perhaps the breech position deprived the calf of oxygen and affected his brain. So sorry for your loss, but I am blown away by your kindness to your cows, and how hard you work. Hang in there.
So sorry for your loss. RIP LITTLE ONE.
You learn from every situation, friend.
You helped him have 16 hours of life. You did your absolute best to make him comfortable in his short time on earth and you managed to keep his mama calm. You did her and her baby a great service.
Hello to Farmer Tyler Ranch and all others too.
When you get through beating yourself up, sit back and realize that nobody has a crystal ball. You can only do so much on instinct and you are usually very good with yours.
Sorry for lost of the calf. The one thing I saw that maybe to do in the future. Is if you have to deal with this again. Is don't wait till next day. Get them both up and do what you did the next morning. It sucks losing cattle. Been there done that
Bless you for trying so hard to save him.
I feel you Tyler. As stewards of our livestock its always hard when we lose one. I know that life and death on the farm or ranch is part of the deal, but with the love that we have for our animals, it doesn't make it any easier.
Don't second guess decisions made at the time. Your commitment to your animals consistently shines through. As you commented this is the most difficult side of growing animals. Your experience and knowledge grows every day, and in the long run, your animals reflect this.
Failure to thrive is Heartbreaking!
That was hard to witness, however, everything that lives, also dies. I am sorry for the loss, and feel especially bad for the Mom. :(
Thanks for sharing. I know how difficult these situations are, I have had a number of still births this spring. Every one feels like a body blow.
My mother always said "if you have livestock sometimes you get deadstock"
Keep up the great work.
Love you, Tyler. Especially when times are tough.
So sorry that little guy didn’t make it. Too many contributing factors against him. You managed to save the heifer who looks like she’ll be a great mom in the future.
Tyler, thanks for not sugar coating farm life! Unfortunately you take the bad with the good, and for showing that ranchers are affected by the losses.
So sorry for the lose of that calf. The animals become more then just your livelyhood. You can second guess yourself but your attitude of what can I learn from the experience, will serve you well.
16:13 the look in that mommas eyes broke my heart. Gods creatures are so beautiful and amazing. I’m so sorry for your loss sweet momma.
In a situation like this I like to bring the cow and calf into the barn right away(in my setup anyways) if calf like this struggles to get up we milk out the cow and tube it the colostrum. We leave them alone for couple hrs max. If calf isn’t up it gets tubed.
You did the best you could. You are a great farmer.
🎯 💯 %♥️
Sorry. You did the best you could. Don’t overthink it.
Thanks buddy I think he was doomed from the breach to start with.
I think you’re right
I’m a newbie to your channel, accidentally stumbled across your channel/ the breach calf pull vid ; I’m “ Cityfolk” and in my early 30’s I got a job on a race horse ranch; I was green but grew to love it !! Had to keep my day job, my days were Dawn to dusk & beyond . If I could have made a living doing ranch work iI would have. What a great experience of a life time! There still is nothing like the early morning on a ranch, feeding the horses with the sunrise, the smell of fresh cut hay, turning winrows in the hot Sun, running out in the middle of the night to see if my horse foaled yet, it was great to have a couple years taste of ranch life in all
Weather! There’s nothing like it & im richer for it! Yes I subscribed!
As a retired RN, I was concerned about neurological damage since he couldn’t stand. Always sad to lose an animal. New to watching your channel. Love your videos. Always wanted to live on a ranch. My Grandpa had a ranch in NM that was a treasure to visit as a kid.
You did all you could man. Thanks for keeping it real!
God Bless you Farmer Tyler. You are truly a man with a soft heart....The most important thing you tried was to save this little guys life and also his Momma's life ! I cried when I watched this video because I remember how it was back on the farm when we lost an animal. We try our best and sometimes it just doesn't work out. The most important word here is TRIED ! And, you DID ! God Bless you for being YOU......Nancy :(
Good Afternoon, Tyler! I haven’t seen this before! Poor Calve! 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢! Poor Mother!😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢! God Bless the Little Calve! Thank-you! 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
We do our best and leave the rest to God. You did your best, and like Aaron John said below, sometimes the answer to a prayer is no.
Sorry for your loss. It's a hard call to make when to let them bond and when to move them up/ like you did in the AM. Its difficult. I think he went downhill faster because of his rough delivery. I think a stressed at delivery calf needs milk sooner than a normal calf. Again sorry for your lose
I’m sorry hear that makes me so sad I know momma cow is heart broken.
What a heartbreaker. Thank you for keeping it real. It’s easy to tout your successes but it takes courage to share the times when things go awry. I hope the mother did not sustain any injuries that would hamper her future breeding career. She came through like a champ under very adverse circumstances. You did too!
You did your best and what you thought was right but that doesn’t make it any easier. Take care and have a blessed week Tyler.
You are so kind and caring.....nothing more you could have done, sending big hugs 🤗🤗
I can hear the pain in your voice...it's gotta be a tough time for your every year when you lose one like this. This video is definitely a must for those who are interested in getting into cattle, it's not always easy, and a lotta times it's harder than you realize. Thinkin of you guys
So sorry for the loss of the calf. 🌷
sorry for your loss Tyler
Definitely the hardest part of being on the farm. You did a good job. Keep you head held high.
Awww sweetie. He really didn't have a chance. I'm glad you tried, but I am also sure this cost you. I am sorry for all your loss, and sorry for the mama for her loss too. Listen to your inner voice - it's telling you all the right things.
You did your best, don't beat your self up over it, ranch life seems to be tough.
How did I miss this, my Heart shirts for the loss of the little fella. U did what u could Tyler. Unfortunately these things happen all the time. I admire u and ur work still. Thank u for sharing!
You did your best for both mom and calf. I don't know much about calves but maybe his brain swelled. Prayers for you and your family.
Just like human babies, most are meant to live & some are not. Sorry for the loss & thank you for the update. Say hello to Mrs. FTR & the little one. 😃👋🏻💕
This is a piece of how cattle farmers life is, as long it is not industrial! I am crying for every calf i loose, and me is a grownup man. I can´t think of anything different i would have done, ok i have colostrum in the freezer. greatz from germany! Very good video!
I am so sorry! We are always saddened by the loss of livestock. My children are learning that hard lesson now.
Been there many times it sucks makes the ones that thrive sweeter, I have a bag feeder helps sometimes
Thank you for sharing and doing what you could.
thank you trying to help the little fellow he sure was cute
Anyone who works with farm animals, poultry or livestock, has had to find that fine line between not enough interference, and too much interference. It is never fun when either of those go the wrong direction. All we can do, is make the best decisions with the information that we have in front of us. You did that, and sorry lil calf didn't make it. God bless you for trying Tyler.
mite get you some colostrum keep on hand for just this situation your a good man hang in there
Sometimes things aren’t meant to be, you did what you could within your parameters, thanks for sharing this journey!
Really enjoy your videos dude! Been there...done that...and your so right it really hurts when we loose our calves. Hind sight is always 20/20 .
Get a tube feeder for next time, I have saved several calves in my life that were too weak to stand up due to hard labor with tube feeding...even still I have lost a few after tube feeding. It’s a last resort of course but like I say, several of my calves have lived because I had a tube feeder and store bought colostrum.
Good luck FTR your vids are awesome!
You did your best. Know that I am praying for you and that the rest of your calving season has a much better outcome.
Glad to see you back 🤠
Tyler, I recently subscribed to your channel and I don't know how old this video is but I love it and can see you are passionate about your animals. Good job and don't worry, you will learn.
You did all you could. If anyone says otherwise they dont know animals. In my opinion raising livestock is the hardest.
I have spent days nursing a calf to life, finally it has strength to stand and drink by its self you get so happy! You go back out the the pen a few hours latter and its dead for no apparent reason.
You gave it your all! Thank you for all your effort! ❤️❤️
I'm sorry you lost your calf. It's hard to look back and wonder what you could have done differently. I'm glad you were able to save the momma. Hopefully she will have more. She'll be good at it.
You both did a good job
I fully respect every decision you made. You are a good human!
Great effort Tyler.
So sorry for your loss.Take care.
Thanks for showing this, definitely a learning process. We all continue learning!
So sorry. I was cheering him on.
Such a cute calf. You did all you could. You're a great caretaker.
So kind, humble, compassionate,
We do the best in our able to make decisions, and you had some big ones, but smart ones. Again so sorry.
I had to pull one yesterday, he didn't make it but the mom is doing alright. Just have to give them the best shot you can and hope for the best.
You tried so hard. Thank you for sharing.
