I love how there was no divot when the ball landed from "150 yards". A bit of some green side hand wedge action going on in this video. hahahahaha

Slowing down my swing has been the single greatest change I've made. It improved everything. Aim, distance, takeaway, club path, follow through, and most importantly, my scores.

    Title isn’t true…

  • @uswwt

I think this guy got it wrong. The reason that the best players ended up de-lofting is because they have fully turned their hip and the arms were trailing. They have a lot of the so called "lag". The lag is an essential ingredient to the double pendulum effect. That motion effortless sling the club head to the ball. i.e. the release. Since they don't rush their hands to hit the ball. So it actually feels like a slowler swing. I think it's true that the hands/arms are slower. But the club head gets a lot more speed because the club pivots around their wrist/hand, which has a very light grip on the club.

I still dont compress the ball no matter how i try to follow “U Tube” instructors. I play with a guy that does it well, I cant figure it out,

  • @jimmyreece5781

Seems if you needed less loft, go to a lower club. Changing someones swing to that looks like it's gonna result in more mishits. Why not just swing your own swing and choose the club that will get you there instead of everyone trying to hit their 7 iron 160?

I'm confused... to get distance you need club head speed, but a slower swing improves ball striking. Where do we stand on this dilemma?

We all have an optimum tempo. A rhythm that is unique to each of us. It’s why you can distinguish a person from their walk. When you understand your own rhythm, it will become a lot easier to make clean and solid contact with the ball. The tendency is to go beyond your own natural pace, it’s very rare that players fall below their natural speed. Ali is 100% right. Compression is what generates distance.

My old coach used to tell me , lead hand knuckles facing the ground at impact, so when is the right time to turn the knuckles to the ground…!!!

Hi Ali, this is the fundamental fault that is driving me mad - the faster I swing the more inconsistent I become. Im really going to try and shorten my backswing slightly and really focus on the points that you made in the video. Thanks Mate!

Thank Ali! I can see that, with my own swing, my address and ball position in my stance is good. As you have pointed out, my issue is with my grip, namely, getting the club face aligned with my spine angle at waist high. Thank you for your channel and series of videos. They are game changers!

Yep, this is exactly what I’m working on at the moment with my coach. Some good tips and advice here. Will definitely try it out.

Used this technique twice now and can say it definitely allows me to club down one club, even with a slower swing. Great stuff. Just need to nail down my accuracy as ball flight is very much right to left draw, not hook.

This makes all the sense in the world. I used to hit 7 iron 150 or so, now 130. Will surely try this drill. Thanks

Along with swinging to fast my arms tend to move away from my body when increasing swing speed I'm definitely slowing down and working on compressing the ball thanks for that great video

Hands forward through impact has gotten me flushing my irons, and I'm by no means a good golfer. Really compressing the ball and keeping the face square for longer. Good video.

Thanks for a great video! This is something I’ve hear a lot of pros talking about but at the same time also talking about the release. Thats where it gets really confusing for me…the club shaft tilting forward and at the same time having the back hand passing the front hand at impact. Could you explain that Ali? Thanks for a great channel! (Excuse any language errors…I’m swedish😅)

Great advice, Ali! I pulled something in my back a few weeks ago. I took several days off and then played with my dad. I played from his tees, just planning on taking half swings and patting it around with him and seeing how my back felt. The ball was flying off the face with driver - straight, beautiful boring trajectory, lots of roll. I checked Arccos during the round and I was hitting the ball as far or even further than I usually do on that course. I normally hit a good drive around 240 and I had several that were 240 and more with the half-to-3/4 swings. Even better - I didn't have the high-on-the-face pop ups that I usually do. My strikes were just so much better. I think it's all about the sequencing. When you're planning on swinging slower, you naturally first bring it back slower. That sets the whole sequence up and gives everything time to unfold the way it's supposed to. If I have a wide, slow takeaway I have a better chance of letting that happen. Now if I could just remember that all the time!
