I was in NYC on 9/11, about 2 blocks from the WTC. There were no soldiers there during the attacks. The only military I saw that day were the fighter jets patrolling around Manhattan. The soldiers in this movie were just hired extras.
You are right about the creature being an infant, and being scared. JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves wanted it to seem like an elephant in a panic. They also wanted the parasites seem as big a threat as the creature. And if you ask me they succeeded!
They show it full grown in the very last scene in Cloverfield Paradox and it's the size of a mountain.

This was such an underrated masterpiece and so ahead of it's time in 2008. The marketing for this movie alone was the most genius thing ever. I wish I could explain it but they basically hid website links throughout the promotional materials and the websites would lead to "government websites" showing a bunch of "evidence" from project Cloverfield. You cutoff look at all the evidence and put it all together that this was going to be an insane monster movie. People got so hyped and then we weren't let down once it did release.

The amount of lore around the movie premiere and after that was huge. After the first teaser trailer and all the clues in it everyone started to look for the meaning behind everything. No one knew if this was a movie or something completely different. People discovered website addresses collecting information from the trailers, which interconnected between each other, more clues as a result of doing research on those sites, "unrelated" RUclips videos that led to more clues about the movie. The marketing was HUGE.

When the first trailer for Cloverfield was released, it was a total surprise. No title or release date was given. It was just footage from the party, the start of the creature's attack, and ending with the shot of the Statue Of Liberty's head crashing down and rolling to a stop. They didn't even show the monster, so no one knew what the "trailer" was or what was going on. The internet was totally abuzz with theories. Was it a Godzilla reboot? A movie about HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu? Some were utterly convinced it was a trailer for a live-action Voltron movie because they had misheard the line "I saw it! It's alive and it's huge!" as "I saw it! It's *A LION* and it's huge!" It turned out to be none of those things, though Godzilla was a clear inspiration.

Also, if you look closely during the ending when they're on the ferris wheel and the camera is looking out at the water you'll see something fall into the ocean and make a splash. Presumably that's the monster, or its egg or whatever arriving.

It's definitely a nod to the old monster movies of the 50's & 60's, you actually see the monster arrive on Earth, it crashes into the water in the background of the Coney Island flashback/s, so definitely not from Earth.
Its been suggested that there's actually 2 of the giant monsters (changes size in some of the wider/long range shots), as well as the smaller ones that got Marlena, which act like parasites that drop off the main monster/s.

I love the Monsterverse, don't get me wrong. All the films to me have been great fun, especially KOTM, but I do kind of want a movie in that universe done in this style. A film where none of the big government players are our focus, or military people. Just people living in a city that happens to be where Godzilla fights another monster. Make it a really nasty all night type of fight, but we only get glimpses while the people are just trying to survive. Some may get bored of that, but me personally? I'd love it!
People doing whatever then like a horror film, an Emergency broadcast tells people to get to shelters or escape is viable as Titans are approaching. They try to escape, but one of the monsters, I'm thinking not Godzilla appears and causes all kinds of havoc. Nearly kills the people we're following when the G man comes in and ROCKS the other monster's shit. Allowing the people to escape. Watching them beat the crap out of each other. You can even do the military, coming in and bombing the shit out of either one or both (for the Monsterverse it'd make more sense they just attack the other monster, but I digress).
    Anyways, I'm rambling, lol.

3:45 she played in mean girls as Janis. they have another cloverfield movie they made after years later. can you please react to the movie called The Crow with Brandon Lee in it, Bruce Lee's son. sadly he died in real life on set i believe. it's a really good movie though. you would like it. it's one of my favorite movies and just so different to the movies today, especially since it's back in the 80's.

Did you not realise that the "flash backs" was what was on the tape and they had filmed over it. But little bits remained ie when you press record the film moved a little forward before it actually recorded. If that makes sense.
