I'm just an animator studying spear arts and I'm so very impressed with the precision at 0:08 with the stab to the face.
When playing normal speed it seemed like it would have hit Connor if he wouldn't have moved away. Which looked like near death experience!
But if you go frame by frame, you'll see that ZaK aimed barely an inch above Connor's head and it would have never landed. An inch lower tho and it would have hit Connor's forehead if he wouldn't have dodged it.
To have such a confidence in your ability you have to be a master! I'm very amazed...

I learnt spear once and from my perspective, as a student,
At 9:21, becoming exhausted more quickly is certainly not the first reason of not swinging your back-hand(right hand/後手) higher while doing Lan(拦/攔) in defense situation.
The time to contacting enemy spear is the first major reason. Imagine a spear is stabbing towards you and you have to Lan(拦/攔), if your back-hand(後手) has a larger swinging circle path and the ending position is higher, the spear head will swing an even larger lope, which takes more time before contacting and stopping enemy spear.
My meaning is: the faster your spear contacts enemy spear and diverts its stabbing path, the faster you can stab the enemy.

These techniques are a good demonstration of the core principles of chinese martial arts: the fight not fought is the greatest victory. They are very flashy and intimidating techniques, but they lack power behind the thrusts. You couldn't really cause grievous harm to an armed attacker who has seen these techniques before. Which admittedly may be the point if these techniques are practiced by monks.
