Under-armpit-braced hold is, in my experience, only useful for two things: resisting charges and pushing people - there is obviously the couched lance on horseback, but I have no exeperience with that. For resisting charges, it's much harder to sweep the point away with a shield, and even if your opponent does it, you'll retain a decent structure and disrupt his at least a little. Pushing people is fairly self-explanatory. The problem with both of those is that they won't happen unless you are in a group fight, and that usually means on a battlefield with medium armor (gambeson and coat of plates) in Fiore's period. Which also explains why pushing can even happen instead of stabbing.
For lancing out (i.e. one handed thrust), I have two tips. First one is, if you get into group fights, it becomes ten times as useful - if there is one opponent focusing on you, they'll likely see that lancing thrust and defend against it. However, with dozen people to keep in mind (friend AND foe, you don't want to get left behind if a flank collapses, do you?), it is very, very possible to pick your moment and strike out at someone from a distance that they considered to be safe to look away from.
Second tip for lancing is, if you are wearing leather gloves, especially smooth leather, grip the spear with a bit of handle still left behind your hand, they have a tendency to slip, especially when things are happening around you and you can't concentrate on your grip, or if you used that gloved hand to wipe sweat off of your brow. Modern gloves usually don't have this problem.

The old Swedish military bayonet/spear system uses a half step instead of a lunge. One reason why can be the slippery winter ground, and uneven terrain.
I did a couple of videos about the basic Swedish techniques, have a look, here’s the first one ruclips.net/video/vSqwbEmji6E/видео.html Works really well with a spear in sparring, too.

Well the main difference between lunge and half step is the chance to retreat faster. Both are legit depending from the situation.
Anyway I’ll check your video definitely, but it doesn’t surprise me as a choice for that context ;-)

Finalmente si trova qualcosa sulle lance. Tutti sembrano pensarle troppo basiche per fare un vero tutorial. Volendo sarebbero perfette per la difesa abitativa.

My club is soon moving into pole weapons so tips like these will be handy. Couldn't ever have come up with a better name for the series! lol

It's a good idea to remake the spear basic videos you made a long time ago

The old spear basics videos were copy paste from the sources and gave little help to people in terms of sparring application, here I'll try to be more useful in that sense ;-)

Any chance to get a video on 1 handed spear use? I always found it awkward and ineffective, but I could just be doing it wrong considering spear and shield was a pretty popular thing in history

U missed the most common historical grip
Held high and reversed like a dagger
This has bad point controlled and is more affective when u have a shield and longer spear than yours
Can give u excellent range and maximum power in your thrust
allows u to be affective in a tight crowd where the under arm grip will hit ppl behind u

I'm so sorry, and I don't mean to insult you or whatever, but you spelled the title wrong. Please don't hate me, I just wanted to say it.
