    Reminds me of when I was a kid back in the 50's, warming my back-side against the pot-bellied stove in the old farmhouse. It was so inviting when the winter Michigan wind was howling outside. Hey, thanks for taking me back in time, my friend.

    I was happy to hear that you use a pee bottle. When I was in the Air Force back in the 80s we were camping in GP medium tent in January in Illinois. The temperature was about 16 degrees at night and we were using Arctic mummy sleeping bags with balaclavas. Rather than going out in the cold to pee, I used an empty 2 L soda bottle. You just have to get up on your knees and use your flashlight to make sure you don't miss. The amusing thing is that when you are done you have a hot water bottle with you.

    Hi Walker, enjoyed this video. Can you share WHY you avoid Hemlock wood? Many campers say that but nobody says why?

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  7 лет назад +6

      Yes. It blows out burning embers which rains down burning holes in synthetic materials plus an increased (IMHO) wild fire risk during dry weather. Thanks for watching.

      At night maybe 65 thought the temps can be more near the top and less lower. During the day in the 80's or highter. Thanks for watching

    Hi walker love the video so question I see your from or camping in Sherman not sure where that is I’m looking for new places to camp and new location to film and can you tell me what type of tent that is

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  6 лет назад

      The stove is a Kifaru Parastove and the tent a Kifaru Paratipi. Both are not longer made but the company is making other heated shelters and stoves. www, Kifaru.net Thanks for watching!

    I think you need a tent with a floor. That wind must be stealing your heat!

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 лет назад +1

      If the tent had a floor the stove would melt it. Also if floating on a snow base it would get destroyed. Then there is the issue of a wood stove in such a small tent aka air intake. Everything has pros and cons. Thanks for watching!

    Do you worry about carbon monoxide? Would it be an issue? What about the stove pipe; no issues with the sil-ny tent melting?
    I have an old polish army lavvu and have been meaning to get a little stove for it.

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  7 лет назад +3

      Nope not worried as the tent is vented however never burn anything in a tent without venting. The stove jack is supported by a fiber glass jack. Take a look at part 2. Just uploaded it and the stove system is explained. Thanks for watching!

    Walker - If it were raining, would you still be able to use the stove setup? Thank you.

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  6 лет назад

      Yes. No problem other than setting up in the rain so would setup the shelter first and then have to do everything inside.

    How'd you manage a curved stove pipe? Have you ever used a stove pipe joint?

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  6 лет назад

      An adjustable angle pipe works great. I use one all the time. I think in the video the bending in a optical illusion of the wide angle view being used. Thanks for watching!

    Roughly the size of a 50 .cal ammo can stove?

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  7 лет назад

      Nope the stove is not that much bigger than a Naglene canteen. It's really little.

    • @Roarmeister2
      @Roarmeister2 7 лет назад +1

      Is that the Parastove? if so then 6"x6"x8". A .50 cal ammo can stove is 5.5"x7"x11.5" so it would be similar in size.

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  7 лет назад

      Yes but 11.5 inches is considerably longer than 8 if you put them side by side. I have one someplace around. The parastove is really really small in person. That's just IMHO.

    Greetings. Your pack looks like a military pack I also use called the arcteryx ILBE but the waistband strap looks different! Is this a different pack or did you modify an ILBE? If you did modify an ILBE can you please make a video of what/how you did it!?!? I hate the waistband on my pack and have wanted to modify it for a while, just don't want to ruin anything. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  7 лет назад +4

      Go to 18:35 the total proof is right there so I am not kidding. Low of 5 for local town and as you know it gets colder in the hills and valleys combined with high winds which can also be seen in the video. The proof is right there and I did it just for you. Also did you happen to see the ice at 1:09 The freezing point of water isn't 38F. Right? So with all that 100% proof it can't be 38F how did you ever come up with that number?
