      I always thought the Kifaru paratarp/annex combo with para or rollup stove would make for a great ER shelter. Never got one but did see them setup at an ECR. The standard and the super sized. They seemed nice. Thanks for watching!

      Actually I just bailed on that. Did some video doing the prep but the winter storm warning changed to a blizzard warning. Something flashed on my phone about 70 mpr gusts so took down the shelter and night hiked out. If I could of found an open spot away from trees would have stayed. On the positive side will go back in a few days for an outing. Want to mess around with that Mora hatchet! Thanks for watching!

I just bought a cheap Chinese backpacking stove and will receive my 3 legged transfer gas adapter so I can use it with Butane instead of those silly fat Isopro things. I also want to use my 1lb propane tanks but I have a hose for my BBQ but not sure which adapter I need for the end which fits into the 20lb tank. great Video, thanks!!

    one more sad thought as I cannot carry anything heavy for Summer I thought a cheap Golf cart could suffice as the legs can fold in to maneuver trees and such and in Winter a half decent toboggan but I can't go too far and hope around Montreal there are good Winter Camping sites. what do you think of my Golf cart idea??

    thanks for video, may i ask where you get your foldable stove and how much it cost? after starting your stove/heater , how much is temp inside your tent? by the way, you might want to buy a welding blanket which can protect you from rough ground and cold soil and it also can put underneath your stove without being worry about sparks or burn marks. keep it up ;)

    What a beautiful place! What river was that? What type of land were you on? State Forest? BLM? National Forest? Private? I'm wondering because it's nice that you're allowed to harvest wood to burn. I'm in Arizona, and it seems we can't harvest wood, even deadfalls, most places that we've been camping.

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  7 лет назад

      Most places around here it's ok though there are a few areas it's not. I never knew that about Arizona. One pro to hot tenting with a small stove is it burns very little wood aka small sticks and produces very little ash. That said ash actually is kinda good as it returns the minerals to the soil. More sustainable than fossil fuel based systems IMHO. Thanks for looking and interesting info about your area!

      Thanks for the reply. I figured you were north east, the terrain and accent gives it away. On the tent, I saw the other ones they had at Kifaru. I am looking for something like the Mountainsmith Mountain Shelter LT, only with a bigger footprint than 8x7. That shape is perfect, I just want a larger size. Thanks for your videos!

    ah ha would not have been my first choice to piss in that Nalgene bottle but oh boy that made me laugh when you held your water bottle up to the stove and it leaked piss on your hand ha ha. • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  7 лет назад +1

      I think the entire stove and tent combo comes in around 6 lbs. Both are made my Kifaru but not sure if they still make the Paratipi and Parastove. The Nalgene piss bottle was a double edged sword for sure. LOL! Thanks for watching brother and I appreciate the comment! :)

    how do you handle the drafts in that tent?

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  7 лет назад +1

      I put leaves or snow around the edges and will push gear items around gaps I can help seal such as the door. That said I don't want the tent air tight as that's part of the safe guard with hot tenting. The stove can draft and air can come in. Thanks for watching.

    • @MegaWoodswalker

      Not long. Maybe 25 minutes so it is work to keep going but somehow more manageable than one might think as stoking the stove is relaxing like working a campfire. Wood selection is really important for a little firebox like that. Thanks for watching.

    nice idea to include a small wood stove with this type of tent! im from uk am currently remaking old ultimate eqpt the tent mountain tent polyester has faded stretched with storms i been in! so im using 180g ten cate 100% cotton lightweight tent canvas
    im thinking of making a fire portal through flysheet on one side ends of tent in porch area or bell ends
    as its a double entry a pole ridge tent with snow valances and wired air vents
    for heavy snow conds getn snowed under or in
    etc in blizzards or drifting conds
    could you recommend a good lightweight stove & what type of fabric to fireproof side panel of tent cotton with?
    i love bacon too
    just hope you washed yer hands after mal handling yer pee bottle!! dont do what i did one time in middle of night i had 2 bottles by my bed one was pee bottle other was drinking water !!
    both bottles were identical
    i of cse you guessed it
    reached down! thirsty as hell in middle of night
    felt arounds half asleep looking for my water bottle
    i thought i found it
    then
    opened her up took a good gulp
    yep
    you guessed
    i was guzzlimg away on my own piss!!!
    my phys involuntary reaction after fully woke me up!!
    that was a real cold night i could hear it
    that stove really made all the difference i want to get into this hot tenting idea
    without cremating my tent plyester is a bit risky but cotton less so
    for flammability
    but if yer careful enough as you are that took some balls wakking a woodburner in a 1 man polyester tent next time i come across a shrivelled up black non descript mass of burnt carbonised unidentified human remains & polyester material on the trail still smoking?
    i will say there lies that crazy canook bushcrafting guy!!
    he must have used too much of loreals elesse flammable hairspray in his tent!!
    just went
    whooooompfff!
    up!!

    • @6brettes
      @6brettes 7 лет назад +1

      MegaWoodswalker is cheaper than welders anti flash matting you have to buy a big blanket just for a little piece not worth it
      i was thinking of using fireproof oven glove material chefs use! 3inch stove pipe self concealing stacks down
      i shall make the stove
      try to got a few ideas to save money they are kinda expensive for what they are?
      thats a nicely shaped tent windshedder
      new england your at then? i thought you were in canada?
      oops sorry? big faux pas i know the adirondacks well and new beekshires white mts!! new hampshires spent 5years as mt activities director out there liked it!

      MegaWoodswalker oh posh new england then next thing youll be telling me is that you live nextdoor to diana ross i believe she lives in ct newport yacht harbor n all that jazz!! ordinary folks live there too!!
      yes i only need a small patch
      ive just ordered the best quality tent fabric there is its pricey
      im.going retro
      pre 80s
      with a twist
      adding on a few improvements of my own
      i think its cool what you did with that lil poly tent cuz its really improved what types of weather you can stay out in comfort in!
      i know it gets bloody cold out there!
      i once gave my camp director a mini heart attack took 156 kids to top of mt washington he thought none of them were ever gna come back
      had to write out the risk assessment forms for what may happen!!
      hohoho!!

      as we were going down steeper parts of trail
      made us look like lost tribe of papua new guinea freaked out a lot hikers just beginning their trail exp
