The stove is ready to go when the flame blooms - no need to wait 10 min to start cooking. Thanks for another great video!
Great work.
Fun fact: Tragia stove was the the christmas gift of the year in 2020 in Sweden.
Glad you’re having fun with the Trangia! I’ve found that Denatured Alcohol (found in gallon metal cans in the paint thinner section of home improvement stores, labeled “Camp Fuel”) is the hottest and cleanest burning sold in the US. Also, point those holes in the base of the stand into the wind to help draw the heat up toward the pan.
Thanks for the tips JR!
I agree. Go with the denatured alcohol for larger flame and heat. The green version is the cleanest and hottest
Finding that “green” denatured alcohol is hard to find in the P.N.W., though.
Scandinavians are rejoicing from this round 2 of our household stove!
One note: the gas stove is actually capable of melting the sauce pans, if used empty - don’t preheat these
i do like to use it indoors at times too. something about it is just hygge
let him learn.... 😝
Thanks for the info regarding the gas burner. (I have that *and* the “incendiary Swedish doorknob” burner. The spirit burner looks a lot like some older brass doorknobs I’ve seen over the years.)
He’s fixing food that’s far beyond my realistic abilities, though - that, and food that will make me sick should I eat it. I could eat that kind of food in the past, but long-standing illness that started in childhood has drastically restricted what I can eat and not have trouble with fatigue and diarrhea….
@@dennisyoung4631 that’s too bad. Hopefully something works for you, so you can still get great meals outside! Trangia is built to bring home cooking outside
@@SebMoellerM thanks. I was making rice and veggies in the microwave in Astoria recently, so it should be possible to do the same on the Trangia. I can test at home prior to heading out again.
I love my trangia man even though I got the cheapest used 27 I could find in lockdown just for something to clean up and I liked it so much I've switched to a duossal pot and pan and upgraded with a billy pot, plate and multi disk. It's nice to see someone actually cook something fun with a trangia for once though
Chef, THANK YOU! You listened, you made the required changes, and you showed what you can do with the Trangia. I think I'm going to make quesadillas in my Trangia tonight, just for practice.
Always learning my man🙌
@@ChefCorso when I want more heat when using alcohol I use the pots, they sit about an inch over the burner and seem to get hotter. Thank you again for round 2. I hope to see you continue to use the Trangia. Perhaps even try the different sizes.
@@markmartello for sure. I had some good luck with the pots
Great video! It’s fun to see a trained chef work with this venerable system. Let’s see Rounds 3, 4, 5! Thanks, Chef!
Thanks for Round 2.
Yum, yum, yummy! Now you got it. If you want more heat in general with the alcohol option, put the entire system as much away as you can from wind. Actually you should do always that. It's quite windproof, but it's affected by wind anyway, it's in the instructions the advice of using it as much away from wind as possible, always. It's a different kind of cook system, new rules and habits if you come from gas. Just protected from wind at one side of that rock could had been enough, probably. I burned accidentally more than one meal when I was was frying, I assure. That pan gets really hot. Merry Christmas!! :)
Much better! Enjoy the system, it's slowly becoming my favorite after I learned the nuances. I don't think it'll replace my summer "fast and light" kit, but it's coming with on more and more adventures.
Ok I feel you... I do the same often. I got this last Christmas and I have not had the chance to use it yet. Cloudland Canyon, GA this Sept/Oct. will advise, not a RUclips filmier but will be giving it a shot... YIKS !!!! Love what you are doing! Been at this for over fifty years... done more things wrong than Right!!! Make it on the trail...make it right, good food from scratch!!! Stay in touch!!
Great video and thanks for trying this. Now my wife is gonna have to wonder why the hell I just bought another camp stove.
The array of small holes is your air intake and should be into the wind. Ethanol is the cleanest fuel, but impossible to get. Bio-ethanol is sometimes used but it usually has some methanol added so people won't try to drink it.
I was just in Asheville, NC two weeks ago. Beautiful land! I love my Trangia!
Bologna quesadillas were a childhood staple for me, as were grilled hot dog roll ups ... Which is basically the same thing just shaped different lol
Didn't expect the nostalgia factor here but it's appreciated. Thank you for the video!!!
Very good bit of kit, i have the same type. And added a few things like gas burner, kettle not tragia ifs to small and perforated plate so you can put smAller things on it like coffee pot etc
Bless your bravery for that bologna! Good work!
Greetings from Canada! I came across this video and started to watch it until you mentioned about round 1 (and comments that were made). So, curiosity had me stop this video and venture over to watch your round 1 video. I couldn't watch most of it because I was in sheer shock at how you were using it 😱 and decided to come back to round 2. Anyway, major improvement this time around. As for fuel, I know people might recommend HEET, but this has fuel additives that aren't very healthy when paired with food preparation. I use METHYL HYDRATE, which offers high power density, and burns cleanly with no soot. It's also very low cost (buy it in 4 Litre (gallon) containers for more cost savings). You can find this in hardware and paint stores. One more piece of info. The cap with the dark slide ring on it is used for adjusting the heat. This is called a simmer ring. I've used this for soups and stews. Happy cooking! 😀
thanks for watching both videos...always learning and fun to share the process!
Grew up on fried bologna sandwiches. Love ‘em! thanks for the review!
Great video, we all learn from our mistakes.
Yum ! Looks great! Nice 2nd try!
What happened to round one ??? Not been able to find it
it went away last year, but stay tuned for more trangia cookin!
Nice video
Small tip. The handle doesn’t get hot if you take it off, or only using it to stir while cooking. 🤷♂️
Love your cooking style. It’s how I like to do it. I want to suggest a product to you. Icemule coolers. They are the bastard child of a sleeping pad and dry sack. Fill it and roll the lid the blow to inflate for some double wall action. They are amazing.
I would love gassifier wood stove test and some recipes one can do on full blast because that's the only seeing a stove like that has. And full blast on our is high heat.
Can you use sterno fuel cans with the Traingia system?
I can't confirm exact sizing but I think it can probably work.
Italy, in Central Europe? We are a couple of countries of buddy.
As an Italian I died when you cooked that kind of bastard mortadella 😂 🙈
Other than that, nice video!
Indeed it is
Very good demonstration. Every once in a while I thought I could smell your food cooking. Oops, 5:05, 5:46 and 16:27, incorrect word smashed, the correct term is mashed. While some people might use the terms smash and mash interchangeably, they are not the same. 'Smash' is when you merely break something into pieces. However, "mash" means you reduce a food to a soft, pulpy mass. Therefore, making smashed potatoes and mashed potatoes requires two different processes. Using the correct word does make a difference.
Please, turn off the background music! It is beyond me why RUclips content creators think playing background music over the presenter's voice is somehow enhancing their videos. We came to hear you, not to fight background music which quickly becomes extremely annoying, distracting, and intrusive. Many folks have hearing difficulties, thus while concentrating on your voice they must also concentrate on tuning out the music; it is very frustrating. Your background music ruins an otherwise exceptionally good presentation.
That trangia spirit burner should only take about a minute or less to bloom - after that, you’re just wasting fuel…
Agree. 5-10 min is way too long.
yea, depends on your gas type and trail conditions. This heet got rollin in about 2-3 min.
In 3 season, mine tends to bloom well within a minute. In the winter time, I have a can lid that I put under it with a few drops of alcohol/Heet on it and light that - it warms the stove/fuel and lights the stove, decreasing bloom time significantly.
If you use methyl hydrate you will get much higher heat
Great to know for next time, thx!
I love my Trangia set. Especially the function to switch between alcohol and gas, as the gas won't work with the temperatures we have right now in Scandinavia. Thanks for all the create recipes!
How can you review something without reading the instructions? Stove in wrong place and leaves the Handel's attached when cooking,no wonder they get hot.Appears to know how to cook but not use hardware. 🇬🇧
As noted in the video, the stove clip was giving me some issues on this day. Still needed to cook. Luckily we survived
OOOO-- AKA -- Eaglefoot
5 or 10 minutes to get rolling? More like 30-40 seconds to bloom. 10 minutes and you might be out of fuel, and back to square one.
yea, depends on your gas type and trail conditions. This heet got rollin in about 2-3 min.
Round 2 is not helping Mum’s laughing fit. We’re trying to look you up and you have no back up to your title. She wants to know who are you and where were you trained?
clearly you don't like quesadillas. Not all food from a chef has to gourmet and fancy. I trained in Napa Valley and Northern Italy.
Bla bla bla bla bla bla . . . I would like to see the video, but do you really think it is necessary to talk so much? What is the use of this information you give? Let's watch the video calmly
some folks seem to enjoy it. Hope you enjoy your trail tacos!
This stove is completely over hyped, in my opinion. All of these annoying Trangia fans pretend as if this was the objectively "greatest stove of all time"... if you go on Amazon/Ebay nowadays, you'll find tons and tons of alcohol stoves that work just as well, if not better. The alcohol stove made by Redcamp for example is an improved version of this. Other alcohol stoves won't burn for as long, but hotter (as they have a different type of wick) and are therefore much better suitable for boiling water than the Trangia ever will be. You can also make your own alcohol stoves from cans, canisters or bottles... or you can get them on Ebay from people who make these themselves, and sell them for a few coins. They work just as well, and are even more lightweight.
Hahaha! Ok, "expert". XD
@@gerardogarcia-trio3572 another heart broken trangia fanboy. Keep on defending your brand... 🤣
There are many reviews on these alcohol stoves. The Redcamp is NOT an improved Trangia. Head to head tests (including my own personal experience) show the trangia being faster than the Redcamp/Solo knock offs. But its negligible at best. Site setup matters more than the stove brand. Trangia is beloved all around the world for a reason. It is the OG. To ignore that does show lack of experience with them. Why would you knock the Trangia and then promote a blatant rip-off as being better? I have many alcohol stoves, twig stoves from firebox, white gas, isobutane, and multi fuel stoves. Each has a pro and a con. there is no best for all situations. Yes there are stoves that boil water faster if that is all you want but they aren't as good to cook on. My Soto windmaster is my favorite fastest stove. Trangia is a very good all around stove. You can stoveless and cook/boil water on a camp fire for that matter. The trangia can be lighter if you choose to leave the simmer ring and cap at home. They aren't required but are very nice to have. I really like my Trangia. Its an awesome stove. I love my the Cat Can stove I made as well. Having gear to choose from is half the fun. But if it makes you feel better to degrade other peoples gear, the whatever. This is a prime example of Hike your own Hike.
@@kevinklein4748Sorry, but I was right about calling you sarcastically "expert". You just revealed yourself like a complete ignorant about the topic. I looked for Redcamp stove. Just a burner? Trangia is a system, you can use just the burner, but It has no sense with all the system. You can't compare Trangia with just other burners, it's like discarding Jetboil by comparing Jetboil canisters with other canisters. Of course if I want only an alcohol burner I don't even buy one, actually when I go UL I only use a home made cat can stove.
@@gerardogarcia-trio3572 the Redcamp stove has a better price than the Trangia stove, even though it has longer burning times and just overall better design. ALL outdoor companies offer cooking systems for backpacking, that's not exactly an invention that is somehow unique to Trangia. The MSR Windburner by the way will outperform any Jetboil system... But I guess you, as our big brand loving expert, didn't even know that. You sound as if you're being sponsored...
