One sunny day, in April of 1965, a twelve-year-old, friend of mine, Bob, told me of a strange response his parents made to his question about what it was like 'making love'. They brought him into the living room. where the record player was and set the needle on a spot in the early part of the recording of "Don Juan" by Richard Strauss. His father said, "Son, when the music starts your mother and I will leave the room and you listen closely to the music; that will be the answer to your question and we will be back in three minutes." I did as my father and mother suggested and listened very closely...while listening it was like that feeling I get when I start on a swing, going up and down slowly at first then getting really high and jump off...I'm going to like 'making love' when my turn comes!!! That is what Bob said. PS, on the RUclips video it starts at the 1:40 time and ends at the 4:15 time.
Great oboe playing from Paulus van der Merwe!! Howzit Paulus? I had this piece as a set work from my A-levels at school, my first acquaintance with RS, and still have the non-so-miniature score from 1963!! My eyes boggled when I saw so many staves to a page :-)
Lovely performance. Top oboe. The horns so lordly and poetic. Hamburg is very fortunate

A great performance of the venerable Strauss masterwork.
Thank you very much! :)
Extremely clean performance, best one to practice on
Now that's some oboe playing! Phenomenal. In fact, it is a glorious performance in its totality. Thank you NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.
