The coolest thing about the UH Lab school is that they offer DAILY instruction in every subject with a longer school day. The kids have daily art, music, science, social studies, math, ELA every day K-12 with dedicated teachers for these subjects in upper grades. That's something not offered in any other school that I'm aware of. I saw the art work produced by high schoolers there and it was amazing. The principal told us that it's the result of 180 days of art instruction/yr for 12 years. Incredible!! You just have to somehow get into the school.
None of the private schools mentioned, naturally. That's where the upper echelon kids get their education. As mentioned in opening, high school attendance determines your status among locals. Notice that the former president went to Punahou, where annual tuition now is over $22k.
I went to Moanalua.. Go Menehunes!! ..and I don't know about now, but back in the day the M&M Classic was a thing! (Mililani vs Moanalua football games) often with fights before and after lol
ZebraUp yup! Grew up during that era! I’m an alum from Mililani. Was a band geek in hs so it’s the M&M Classic Band Competition for me. The football game was so much fun too! Enjoyed every M&M Classic 1980-84. 🏈🏆🎺🎷🥁
MoHS class of ‘92 here. I played in the M&M classic during the late ‘80s when we went to Mililani our coaches had us wear our helmets because our bus got stoned.
This was a good video explaining these rankings, but I feel it doesn't give justice/credit to schools on the island. I feel like if you did an updated version of this video or a video jusr talking about other schools, it would be good to talk about student population, socioeconomic status of students in the area, sports, community support, and academic support (early college and cost of money college counselors helped in college scholarships)
WHERE did you Graduate? I graduated from Moanalua High in 81. My brothers and I were known as the Brothers Johnson for the basketball team back then. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the excellent work.
So many variables from programs, teachers, demographics and child interests. Difficult to rank because if child wants Vocational Education, then that's another list.
I guess if you needed a guide to find the "best schools" SUMO would be a good place to start. But, in general, in any city the best schools are in the "best areas". The more expensive the hopes...chances are those schools will be top notch. I'll bet Diamond Head's school is pretty good. :) I went to a school where 99% of the kids went to college. (in Canada we call them Universities). It was expected that every one went to a university. Usually the more known universities...the absolute top I'm sure went to Ive League schools in the US (e.g. Hrvard, Yale, Cornell...). Where do Hawaii's "elite" live? That's where the "best schools" should be... In Toronto...you go to the school in your area...rarely will they allow you to attend a school in another area. I don't know if that's the same on Hawaii.
Where you there when the principal tried change the name to Air highschool because she tried to enforce her slogan "breathe in the A.I.R" which stood for something.
no wonda, this only for Japanee. if you like action for football Kahuku Red Raiders is where it's at bulei. choke NFL alumni. but you betta be one fast Japanee or 1 sumo wrestler sized one. cuz we get monstas RED RAIDER 4 LIFE

Good to know. I would love to interview someone at that school. I've heard so many good things.
I went to the lab school in 9th grade and left to go to Kaiser. Both schools are amazing and shine in their own unique ways!!

Doesn't even matter where you graduated in Hawaii unless you plan to get a job in Hawaii.

Bro, you didn't mention Farrington High... Top high school for going to prison or being a teenage mom.
😆
Too funny
Thank God hawaii high schools have off campus so that way seniors can leave campus
Good intel. I’m Moving there next month and I’d rather buy a home in a good school district than pay 26k/yr. for private school.
Good luck on the move. Aloha!
UH lab school, charter school, actually is like a private school, they play in ILH.

I thought McKinley was on this list. I graduated there. Class of 2019, too bad my juniors couldn't cross the oval.

Yeah, the best areas tend to have the best schools.
The "elite" lives in Waianae. Stay in Canada.
Can you make an updated video on this topic? 😊
This is the worst subject to talk about, everyone in Hawaii has strong opinions about their schools.
True, but that's why I used the list from another source to keep it as objective as possible.
leilehua teaches you how to use your intuition .. thank you for the tremendous skill that i use everyday ..
