Thanks for sharing the numbers with us data junkies... nice to see what real world results are rather than some sales brochure numbers (which I may be somewhat skeptical of).
Amazing soundproof!
It turned out excellent, I want to see you again studying the great series
of course it works. i saw it on ace ventura! :D
Great to see you getting back to making videos.
Yeah fantastic! Huge difference. I think what people forget sometimes is it doesn’t need to be perfect, it just has to get you over the line for your specific situation.
Good to see you back Austin. I am an acoustic consultant specialising in building acoustics. Excellent job with the secondary glazed sliding door, looks to be providing around 20 dB reduction, you're unlikely to get greater than that due to the nature of the sliding door seals. Good job!
That's a great improvement. Here in Phoenix, my studio is a separate structure in my back yard and the dB reading at the property line can't exceed 55dB between 11pm and 7am, so you'd be in the clear! Good thing I only share the fence line with one neighbor to the west! Lol
It's great to see you back!!!
That's awesome! It's makes a pretty significant difference too. Thanks for the demo!
It’s so crazy before you just popped up again, I thought a few weeks ago whatever happened to that guy?? Love your stuff 🤘🏼
Living the dream, awesome job man - all drummers want this, few make it happen
Wow man! Really great
This is awesome! Great to see results. I bet two sliding glass doors would be really amazing.
Yea that was originally my plan but they recommended having a traditional weather sealed exterior door in place because their doors aren’t really designed to do that. Also, the cost haha.
Nice... well done
really cool. You could hang something like an Audimute Isole sheet that could probably cut back a little more, and still be somewhat removable
Haha you made it!! Great stuff. That is a significant reduction and good to have the decibel readings to back it up. Other than bricking it up entirely, it's difficult to know what you could do differently. Another laminated glass door on the inside with different thicknesses of glass perhaps (or replace panes of glass with the laminated variety in the existing inside door?) That would add significant cost and probably only give a marginal benefit. Adding some temporary baffles that you could completely seal up and block the enclosure may also work, which could easily be removed when not needed. I deliberately decided to not have a glass window or door to the outside of my drum room due to the complexities of soundproofing. I made an internal window from two panes of laminated glass and solid core communicating doors on the inside (as per Rod Gervais specs), then only had external doors outside my room within a room. The idea was to have some secondary natural light bouncing in from outside, whilst the inner sanctum of my drum room remained sealed. It kind of worked - I made (a very poor) video to test it. I plan on doing another one at some time with dB readings to compare the results.

Really cuts the highs! I'm sure it's quite quiet at the edge of the property.
Damn, 20-30db! That door was worth the money it seems
A thick window curtain on the inside will also drop some decibels
I also use audimute sound dampening blankets over my door that would add another layer. take them down when not playing
continue the study the greats series plsss
What about a heavy duty acoustic curtain to slide over the sliding door when playing?
That’s amazing on the higher frequencies! It flattens the snare sound, mostly the bass and racks that still cut. Could you use a vinyl curtain or heavy rug to trap the low end further? And how much of that is travel through the floor? (I haven’t watched the entire build video yet so you may have answered some of these).
Super impressive though! I’m curious what a knock test would be like on the glass too, could you hear someone knocking in the outside doors from inside the studio?
I have a doubled up set of heavy sound absorbing curtains but they don't do much to stop sound transmission. I want to keep that door easily accessible so anything more hardcore than that would be too cumbersome to constantly be moving out of the way.
It wouldn't be cheap, but if you really wanted to get it better I think you would need to build a type of sun-room/mud-room addition.
More importantly, are your neighbors satisfied with the sound reduction?
Haven't had any problems so far!
A heavy duty double curtain rod that is installed near the ceiling and atleast 1 ft on either side of the door. The first rod to hold moving blankets turned into curtains, the 2nd rod actual curtains that look decent. Try to have the blankets and curtains be less than two inches from the floor.
I was also hoping for an Ace Ventura sliding glass door scene..😂
I wanna know what on earth you do for a living to be able to afford all this stuff!
The only other thing I can think of is room darkening curtains in front of the door. Ikea rods are great quality and affordable. You can go as heavy duty as you want with fabric, and you can even do multiple layers with the Ikea rods. You'll lose the natural light, but maybe you would only want to close them after sundown anyway?
I do have a doubled up set of blackout acoustic curtains but they don't do much to stop sound transmission unfortunately.
Maybe just hang some kind of thick pillowy blanket thing, like making something like moving blankets with that rock wool insulation stitched in between two blankets, than hung up against the door. just an idea
I've got double heavy acoustic blackout curtains but they don't do much to stop sound transmission.
i dont know anything about soundproofing but what about curtains like really heavy curtains
Aaaaaaahh yeeeeah
Ughhhhhhhh!
55 dB at 3 feet is very low for drums. Your neighbours should be fine.
You might want to seal up and brick up that sliding window area to keep your neighbor off your back. Soundproofing is only as good as your weakest link. Sorry that expensive window didnt fulfill their promise.
Clearly you didnt even watch the video. It did an amazing job
@@DALTRON666 Attenuating high frequencies, a little. His neighbor wont hear that. She will hear the snare and low end that can travel miles.
Neighbor's never been on my back, we are friends. I do all this mainly for me to feel comfortable that nobody around can really hear me. Also, to keep outside noise like cars, mowers, leaf blowers, etc from coming in. The door works well enough to achieve all that so I'm happy with it.
I’ve been disappointed in seeing you support libertarian conservatism on Twitter.
Good video nonetheless. Very useful.
I didn't know that... now I'm really glad I subscribed... thanks for sharing.
Lol.
He does?! How dare he be a free thinker with his own opinions, the nerve! Thanks for letting us know, Comrade Torque Bow.
Great to know!! Glad to see more people like me with longer hair and into libertarian issues!
