My best tip would be keyboard shortcuts! They speed up your workflow so much and you don't have to spend that much time setting them up. I specifically like "C" for cut and "F" for delete because then you can keep your left hand on the keyboard and your right hand on your mouse.
This was wildly helpful, thank you! I’ve been editing close to two years and just today learned about that audio “range selection” option (that adds the fades for you). Game changer that will make editing faster. THANK YOU, Justin. As always, your vids have so much value. 💯🥇
I have learned how to create new libraries, naming them properly, for anything new I edit. I even have a library named “tests” for new microphones, other adjustments, and even things I learn where I practice. I can always refer back to this library for when I forget how to do something I have learned.
I'm not a tech person but his is probably the "easiest" video editing tutorial I've ever come across on RUclips. Some begginers tutorials are too complicated for me to follow because I thought my brain capacity has been maxed out for medicine alone. 😂 Glad I didn't waste my precious 24 minutes for nothing. Thank you so much!

@Primalvideo Another thing I found in Final Cut Pro to help audio for the primary footage is using audio cross fades. If you cover this in another Final Cut Pro tutorial, I think this is a really good tip. Great video, since I’m eventually planning on using LumaFusion and Final Cut Pro together.
Thank you...thank you! Iv'e used iMovie for years but just got Final Cut with my new iMac. This helped be primarily in locating things like Transitions and durations. Also the keyboard shortcuts like C and R. Great help!
JB! I needed this! I've been doing it all wrong for YEARS. I was editing in iMovie first and then sending it to Final Cut Pro. Now I won't have to double work! My number one Final Cut Pro Tip? *Watch THIS Video Tutorial!* Thanks Justin!
Regarding the title you added at 10:00 mark, you have a black shirt on and it looks good. What do you do/recommend if the image/background is lighter or busy. What's best way to get text to pop for better visibility?
I really appreciate your attention to detail and thorough explanations. Without your help, my entry into FCPX would not have been nearly as seamless as it’s been. Thank you so much!
GREAT TIPS and TRICKS; I followed step by step and was amazed by how great of a teacher you are! This is definitely going to help me with the start of my channel! Thank you.
I've been using Final Cut Pro for about year (but only less than 10 videos in that time). A few days ago, I edited and uploaded my first video this year (which was probably the first video I've worked on the last six months) and my process certainly wasn't the most efficient. When you mentioned copying and pasting attributes, I went, "oh yeah! I forgot all about that!" I learnt at least a couple more things that will be useful in future. Thanks for sharing this video.
Been using iMovie for simpler videos the last few years, but this summer I’m branching out into bigger training videos and music video type things. I was nervous about switching to Final Cut, but after your video I’m super excited for all the possibilities. You made it much less intimidating. Thank you!!!
Thanks for an amazing, efficient, walkthrough. It was really helpful to get started. If you were to do another, It would be cool to see to an actual cohesive video done start to finish. But, this was far better than I could have asked for.
Justin...thanks so much for producing this video. It was immensely helpful! Your methodology for creating a video helps add a lot of organization to what would otherwise be a very complex process. I downloaded your guide and will keep it close at hand. Again...MANY THANKS!!
Hi Justin, thank you for another excellent tutorial. I'm having trouble figuring out how to perform the Ripple Edit Right ( Option [ ) OR Ripple Edit Left ( Option] ) on my Mac. Could you please guide me on how to access the square brackets shortcut? (Option + Option + 5 doesn't seem to work...) Additionally, I've noticed that there is always a gap between clips when I use the Blade tool. Is this a common issue or am I missing something? I recently switched from Premiere to Final Cut because I couldn't bear the payment model of Adobe any longer. This is my first time using Final Cut, so I appreciate your assistance in navigating the software. Thank you for your time and keep up the great work!
Thank you for putting this together. I just came over from premiere pro and decided to give final cut a shot after exporting issues on the M1 mac. brutal.
You are awesome! I could not for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the "scissors" once I clicked to turn them on lol and you are the ONLY one to literally show me. Love it, thanks so much!
After learning editing on Lumafusion moving to FCP is incredibly frustrating, after more than 40 hours trying to figure out how to do simple things like adding videos to projects or trying to understand why do I need events and projects being an old school gamer I broke 3 mouses. I bought this thing about 4 years ago, gave it a try got super disappointed (on myself) turned it off and never touched it again. After some time I found out about LumaFusion and decide to learn the ropes there. The learning curve was more like a learning slide because things were very easy to pick up, everything makes sense and is intuitive. Great? Nope, even though FCP has way, way more options and possibilities I can’t learn how to use it. I tried to edit the same small video on each one and in lumafusion after 45 minutes it was done, on FCP after 10 hours I gave up not even close to one quarter of the editing. $300 dollars burned to ashes, sorry about my complaining… so frustrating 😢
Super super easy to understand a very detailed video, I feel like a pro after watching this video. Thanks for making this video and helping me to understand how final cut works.
Thank you very much for your awesome presentation! I just purchased FCPX a few days ago and your video has touched upon so many features, so quickly. I especially love the SUBJECT line at the very bottom so I can go back to a certain part of the video to review. I will play this back on my iPad while I’m running FCPX on my MacBook Pro.

You must have read my mind Justin, in sending me your email announcing this new tutorial! I purchased Final Cut Pro, but was struggling to get started. Also a bit of procrastination! Your eBook and video will really help... like having you at my side 🙂 Question: How does one insert HD still photos for the B roll, which can be left up on screen for say 10 seconds, a minute or whatever? Just place it on the timeline, then grab and drag the bar to edit for length? Or does this only work with a video clip? Can the zoom in and zoom out feature be used on stills too? Suggestion: Under SHORE MORE, perhaps add links to your tutorials on how to create cover thumbnails with titles for videos to be posted on YT, and other helpful videos. Cheers and many thanks from Montréal. Frederic
