It's like ever since the announcement for this anime's reboot, a lot more fans started to bring awareness to Urusei Yatsura. I never thought something like this would happen. Not even UY having a revival of some sort. Such an underrated anime that got me to become a huge anime fan. As this too my favorite anime, I'm very excited and looking forward to see how the reboot will turn out and let's hope fans, new and old, have a good time with it. The team behind this project, please do your best!
Urusei Yatsura is the pinnacle of human achievement in comedic timing. I'm not even kidding, the comedy beats hold up so well, and very few things, anime or not, have ever come close to it for me.
I don’t understand this new need of constantly reminding the audience that a relationship is “toxic.” How about not insulting the audiences intelligence like some weird 90s Christian tv show and allow the audience to come to that conclusion on their own?
Thank you so much for doing this video! Urusei Yatsura so so tragically obscure in America. It's so incredible and deserves so much more love and appreciation that it gets. Hopefully with a new series coming out it'll finally get the mainstream world wide attention that it deserves. It worked for Lupin III when they started making new series!
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO GENUINELY ADORES SAKURA? 😭
I've always felt Urusei Yatsura strangely resembles The Simpsons, at least in the way it satirizes and parodies pop culture, which is weird to say considering it's older than The Simpsons by quite a few years.
the reboot ended, this became one of my favorite romcoms of all time, 10/10
I'm so glad that Rumiko has finally gotten her flowers lately, her manga and their anime adaptation are a huge part of early anime in North America. UY didn't get such a far reach (anime wise) so its nice to see people covering it. I'm super excited for the reboot and wonder what they going to update.
I'd like to counter you and everyone else's questions about why Lum stays with Ataru when he keeps cheating on her: SHE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THEY'RE ENGAGED. Seriously, why is this so hard for anime nerds to grasp?
Urusei yatsura has inspired alot of Gintama episodes as well
Urusei Yatsura(1981) was the reason I really got into subbed anime. I guess it was the emotion the Japanese actors put into their voice acting
Urusei Yatsura is basically what sparked my interest in watching retro anime and I'm so glad I did. Incredible series which doesn’t nearly get as much recognition as it deserves.
Something i really like about Rumiko stories is the "slow burn" love stories on the background: Ataru/Lum , Ranma/Akane and Inuyasha/Kagome that happen as secondary effects of the main story , unlike Maison Ikkoku in which the love sotory is the main plot , it is something that very few author are able to do well and in a natural way
I am rewatching it for the 3rd time in over eight or so years. I first came across it in 2009 but began binging the series in 2012. Was a sad and tough period in my life but the show did help for a little bit. As for my rewatch, I am really enjoying it and find myself laughing here and there at the humor. There is nothing like it.
I love everything Rumiko, from Urusei yatsura to currently Mao (pretty much every other series from Rumiko, Inuyasha being my favorite, with urusai yatsura on second place, Maison ikkoku, mermaid forest, Ranma ½, and the anthology ones).
What a show, also need to mention how good the BGM is which cannot be understated. For me, the best moments in UY, whether they be the TV series or movies, is when a character (especially Ataru), reflects on how different their lives would be had Lum not come along. They're moments that lead you to think about the people whose paths you have crossed and make you realize how much of an influence they have been on you. Great video!
One of those series I need to watch more of, having only seen a handful of episodes back in the mid 90s, and they never really left my memory. So impactful yet also whimsical.
I will always love this anime, it was there in my darkest times
Urusei Yatsura is the first physical manga I bought, oct 2020,gave me the best laughs I needed fell down the rabbit hole, to say when the reboot was announced, to say I was excited would be an understatement.
