glad you are doing some bourbons. WT always a great one to have at any home bar. Great nose and palate. love the way you break it down. thanks and cheers
Now that's a very good price if you can find it! This is definitely a solid bourbon and the lower proof means it can be used to intro some newbies to the category, if they're not used to the spice and heat of some higher proof bottles
I always keep a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 on hand! I haven't had regular ol' Wild Turkey in a while and really don't even remember what it's like. Great review!
Oh thank you. Someone is finally giving the standard WT it’s due. I like the 81 proof more than the 101. High quality for only $21. My favs: WT, Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve Straight KY Bourbon.
Don't get me wrong, between the 81 and the 101, my vote goes to the 101. But there is something to be said about a nice easy sipper that's also easy on the wallet!
My cousin has been enouraging me to get this and give it a chance. In my market they are almost the same price, but I should purchase and consider. Cheers!
shame that they're the about same price in your area, as this one should be cheaper than the 101 proof, but if you spot it on sale, it's a solid drinker which won't drive you wild, but also won't ever disappoint.
My Favorite is Rare Breed, 101 is good too but more expensive than Rare Breed for some reason. WT81 is very good and mixes really well (Bulleit does too but I prefer WT81 over Bulleit as a sipper) It's so good mixed with Ginger Ale.. .the rye and the bourbon complexity makes for a good mix. I like how WT has that more Crème brûlée taste... not as much in the 81 than the Rare Breed but that vanilla custard with the bunt sugar topping... with a bit of cinnamon.... that's how it hits me... I also really find after letting WT breathe for a good 10-15 minutes sitting in my hand and warming closer to body temp it make it so much better... Ice ruins it. I'd take 101 over 81 still but really they are the same but just have more water... so 101 with the water works, but in the USA it is totally worth it, but I can get 81 for $25 canadian but $45+ for 101 (oddly Rare Breed is around $39 lately) I totally would have 81, 101, and Rare Breed as stable mates in my bar if I could keep them for more than a week :P
I agree that ice can ruin a whiskey! (except when it's in an old fashioned of course...) And yeah, I definitely got some nice creamy vanilla notes here, VERY like a crème brulée now that you mention it!
Honestly if you put this stuff in a fancier bottle and priced it at 100.00, a lot of whisky snobs would prob rave about it. Its a nice drink at a low price.
I know, perception matters so much! Reminds me of that experiment where a bunch of wine 'experts' were given white wine with red food colouring, and almost all of them thought they were drinking a fancy red wine!
What's your favourite low proof bourbon?
WOW!! I'm going with Woodford Reserve and Bulliet.
@@TheSpiritoftheCocktail excellent choices!
@@TheSpiritoftheCocktail I agree! Woodford is my favorite!!!
@@FlourEggsYeast Gotta love Woodford!!!
Basil Hayden is my go to!

Thanks so much! I've a few more bourbons on the shelf which I've yet to review, so there'll be more coming soon!
@@TheWhiskeyNerd looking forward to those. Cheers bud
If I was new to bourbons, I might want to give this one a whirl! Sounds quite nice and approachable! Thanks for this Matt!
Yeah, if you're used to bourbons, maybe something at higher proof might suit you better, but this is definitely a great beginner's choice!
Happy New Year Matt and Rose and welcome back 🎉
Thanks Ultan! And many happy returns to you too!
Happy New Year to you too Ultan!!
Would love to try. The 101 is fantastic bang for buck in Supermarkets in NI, sometimes reduced to £23
Now that's a very good price if you can find it!

I'm sure Cam has had Wild Turkey but I haven't yet. Woodford is by far my favorite. It's so easy to drink LOL
You should raid his bourbon stash! Lol!
@@TheWhiskeyNerd 😂🙌🏻
Nice Turkey Breakdown Matt! Cheers brother!
Thanks Bobby!!
I haven't heard they were doing this. I will have to grab a bottle cause Courtney loves wild turkey
Definitely, plenty of taste, but none of the heat from the 101

Thanks! 101 is definitely one to keep on hand, but the 81 is nice when you want something a little softer
Definitely a decent dram to get people into Bourbon. Looking forward to Friday's vid Matt. Cheers mate.
Cheers Al! It's definitely a great intro whiskey

@@TheWhiskeyNerd Found one on sale. Going to give a review. Ok, I found it a month ago and it's almost gone! Better shoot.
@@WhiskyNeighbour haha! It''s very easy to drink, so you'd better shoot that review before it's all gone!
I love your review
Glad you enjoyed it!

I prefer this one over the 101, as it is milder and nicer, to me.
It's definitely an easy sipper. I'm not sure which I prefer, might depend on the day...
