Yes, it is that good. I've just taken delivery of mine (in desert camo) and I'm amazed. Even more fortunately, this is the first 'modern' (if I can call it that) knife I've bought in this category, so I'm not going to have to spend money on more because quite honestly I can't see this being improved on. And yes, you're spot on about the idiocy of UK knife law. Why our esteemed lawmakers believe they can stop young urban gangsta drug-dealing multiple-convicted thugs sticking their mums' cheap kitchen knives into each other by criminalising the likes of me for carrying an Opinel Number 8 to eat my humble bread and cheese at my solitary countryside picnic is completely beyond me. Actually, I'm beyond caring. Let 'em sent me to the Tower if they like - they haven't got a blade long enough to chop off my head any more...
Best knife I own. But the fact you brought up a defensive use, in the UK, is a big no no for me. I want knives to stay legal for us regular folk who want a good quality tool. If people start using UK legal knives as weapons we will loose even more ability to carry a knife as it is.
Just flip the clip to the opposite side, it's not one handed so doesn't matter how it sits in your pocket. I have done this with some knives and it makes your palm side very comfortable.
Hi Paddy. Love your work. Has got me collecting Ganzo's - many many thanks. I got myself one of these from HH a couple of months back. Subject to a little edge work and one simple fix it has not left my pocket since. Perfect UK EDC from my perspective. The clip was a serious problem. For the first week it kept working slightly loose. This meant the small single screw head was routinely left holding only one edge of the fitting slot. I suspect this is why so many have failed. One drop of two pack resin adhesive later and the problem has vanished. A simple fix holding its own after 7 weeks of constant heavy use. Keep up the great work.
I've been contemplating emailing Manly to see if they'll sell me a spare metal blank so I can have that on both sides instead of the clip. I'd have really liked a Lanyard hole too. Really reminds me of the Fallkniven U4 or U2. Fantastic little knife.
Great video, and lovely knife, Paddy! We are stupidly restricted with our UK knife laws, but it has kinda pushed me to take a good hard look at decent slip joints. I think for value for money, the 'Wasp' is so hard to beat, but if anyone is prepared to part with quite a bit more money on another gorgeous slip joint - take a look at the Three Rivers Manufacturing 'Viator'. Not only UK legal, but with a great steel too (154CM), and also features swappable scales which you can change without touching the pivot screw at all. Easy as. The 'Viator' is also available from Hennie Haynes. I actually much prefer the blade shape on the 'Viator', but as I said, for value for money, this 'Wasp' is so hard to beat, and I can see why you love it so much! Keep the great content coming😉!
Much better than s30v at edge retention I used it a lot in the woods .. the hear treatment it is excellent. I tried BM proper an lionsteel as well but this steel and steel treatment it excellent in my opinion
It reminds me of my Enzo PK70s, a very similar blade size/shape. But, this is s90vn, where as the Enzo are only S30v and the Ennis cost £108 and £132, where as this is only £55! OK, the Enzo are carbon fibre and titanium/G10 and their fit and finish is superb, but this is just as practical and you wouldn’t worry about hurting it.
I saw another video. He put his back together by sticking in the alan key and using that to lever the back spring up and it was a doddle for him to put back together. Try it one day.
I only have 2 slip joints but to be honest MOST people that EDC locking knives aren't doing any hard core tasks that might shut the knife on their hands (unlike myself). Modern looks and materials for a market where you cant carry locking knives=👍👍
There seems to be a move towards these sort of hybrid designs, incorporating the best of both worlds. A blade like this can cover most tasks. Sorry to hear you had to take it apart. It appears these new "tactical" slip joints can be disassembled, but not for the faint of heart. Were the washers black from G10 contamination, or oxidation? Sounds like the latter.
Im happy enough with either which is.opening a whole new world.of knives.you got it with the washers oxidation defiantly,I think it must have been somewhere moist for quite a while.it was a pain getting it back together but I enjoy it and hopefully if someone else has the problem I can share what I learned.I do like the kpl lube though it seems to make a difference to so many different knives.atb paddy👍☺🍀
With the singular exception of my P.I.T.S. where I felt the pocket clip added some much needed grip/size in the palm, I've removed every pocket clip in my collection. Don't use them. They ruin the lines of a knife (in my humble, each to their own), they offer no significant real world advantage to just putting your pocket knife in, y'know, your pocket! They hang awkwardly 'on' the pocket rather than resting inside it, etc. But enough about my particular preferences, excellent review! I've been tempted to get one of these as they look great, the steel fanboys keep saying how good this one is, it's UK legal, a good size for larger hands and has a basic, almost old fashioned look to it rather than something gimmicky or **Shudder** 'tacticool'... Having collected for decades I have enough knives to last many lifetimes, but every time I think I'm done, something like this comes along and presses the buttons...
I agree with you on pocket clips I have removed a lot of mine for the same reasons.I will say that this is a very functional knive rather than a trophy piece.thanks for your input.atb paddy👍☺🍀
Great review. I love the knife. Surprising how the carry clip affects your hand yet I find it very comfortable. Just shows how a knives fit and feel is so individual. Or maybe you’re just a delicate flower Paddy? 😉
Thanks for this interesting review. I guess I will buy this one. This will be my fifth knife from manly. I'm really satisfied with the four that I have already, the patriot, drugar, peak and comrade.
Paddy, just found this review. Personally I don't like pocket clips. Now I know you take yours off but will the screw do up clean without the clip? Thanks and great review!
Hey Paddy good eve! I was curious if your manly is chipped at all near the center of the blade? I saw a couple people show that the blade hits on the backspacer. I just ordered one. Any advice? Thanks
This is my favourite one of the year for sure. Is it possible to put it back together in the open position? Not sure never dismantled a slippy may be a silly question apologies if so. You must do a video on the lansky edge. Really hope the black and red scaled version comes to the UK
That's a manly looking knife. I would probably remove the clip and just put it in the pocket or maybe a slipas for cleaning, I would probably jhst saturate with solvent, use compressed air, and when it comes clean, then oil the pivit. Great review! Enjoy your day my friend?
You need to EDC a slipt join if you lent your knife that locks in different way they do not know how to close it and turns dangerous for them. Nice knife. Hope you clean the mess Paddy.
I have no slip joints, But I do love pocket knives. $84 at Manly USA in S90V!!! ...All sold out in every model except the Wasp in 12C27. Guess I'll have to wait a bit to get one. Now show me a knife I can get Paddy ;-)
Hey Paddy. If anyone is interested? For the U.S.A. market. These are back in stock, here. As of 8pm Central time (November 15th, 2018) Along with the new black-scaled, red liner model.
To be honest I think it is the thin frame that makes any pocket clip uncomfortable to grip,I genuinely don't mind taking it of for hard work and keeping the brand named one on it.but that was a good shout, thank you.atb paddy👍☺🍀.
Mine arrives next week to my door, I'll give you my feedback about the clip after a couple tasks. My only fear is the chip issue some people had because of the blade touching the inside of the spring in the closed position. We'll see, I'm quite confident indeed! Thanks anyway because I purchased it after watching your "first impression" video - which was a good one btw. Take care, cheers ;-)
@@EckbertWillemson thank you so mush mate I have been quite hard and vigorous with mine even expensive one have that now.so far no touching.look forward to hear how you get on.atb paddy👍☺🍀
Considering the knife is held closed by the back spring, have you tried reversing the pocket clip to the other side? It might be more comfortable to use that way.
@@paddyspotatopeelers2154 Hmm, my Ruikes are the same thickness but the clips are tip down, they are at the other end and comfortable to use. Pity you can't turn your clip around. I still want to buy a manly though, it looks small enough to just pocket carry without the clip.
