  • How to remove and install an aftermarket stereo into a 92 ford f-150 without a stereo mount. All you need is your stereo along with the metal sleeve that comes with and a wire harness. Will only work without a mount if you you have a basic sized stereo. The larger sized would require a mount.

    I ended up using 4 Allen Wrenches as the coat hangers were to flexible & wouldn’t apply enough steady pressure. But I wouldn’t have made it as far as I did without this. Thanks

    Thanks - the trick where you have to push the tools outward to depress the clips saved the day. Much appreciated.

    Thank you for the video, mine is missing that bracket that bolts to the back of the radio, and I found one In An Installation kit at Wal-Mart for $20.00, so it was well worth it to me, thank you very much, great job, I put a kenwood in mine!

    Your video helped me out. Once I seen the locking clip I used small screwdrivers instead of a coat hanger. Inserted the screw drivers, pried them outwards and the radio was out in seconds.

    What kind of connectors did you use to join the separate wires together? I used some crimp connectors but those round ones seem to look so much better

    I know this is like a year old video , but .... This is wrong . The way you did it will work but because you used the factory guide you were unable to lock the radio den ( metal peace that goes around the radio) into the dash . So that radio can simply be pulled out no tool required. Your supposed to put the den in the dash bend the tabs back so the den is solid mounted in the dash then slide the radio into the den until it clicks and locks in place.

      @goochthemooch1  6 лет назад +1

      ALEX I rigged it to work without a mounting bracket, and i actually have the metal shroud around the radio which locks it in even better and have had no problem with it at all, it easily pulls out and stays sturdy when it's in, it's works like a charm as if you have a mounting bracket. This isn't meant to be the right way but in no way is wrong.

      Dose Trump yup - he’s right. The sleeve is suppose to installed first, and the tabs bent up around the opening to hold that sleeve in place. What you did worked out in your case, but in reality that radio can be pulled right out. There’s nothing locking it in. I’m sure itll be fine, but he is right.

    I want to say THANK YOU!! You made a great video which is thorough easy to follow and simple to understand not to mention the amount of time you saved me on taking the old radio out! Ironically mjy stereo I am putting in is the exact model you put in and my interior is also blue. LOL Thank you once again I appreciate the time and effort you took to make this video.

      Lee Swier no problem I tried to make it easy to follow but I know it may not to some others but it definitely saves some time and money and fits even better than buying the bracket.

    The question is how do you get that radio out because im trying to replace that dash piece with that radio

    • @goochthemooch1
      @goochthemooch1  3 года назад

      Use a coat hanger or they sell a special tool for older ford vehicles to get it out. Other videos show to cut a piece of a hanger and bend it to get into the 2 holes on each side. What I do is cut 2 pieces for each side then you push down and out and pull, it may take a few times but you'll get it.

      @@goochthemooch1 I’m talking about the kenwood radio the tools to remove it are long gone and I was wondering if there was a homemade tool I could make

    • @goochthemooch1
      @goochthemooch1  3 года назад +1

      @@whitelightning5937 if your talking about removing the aftermarket kenwood receiver all you do is take the plastic trim around the receiver off then you pry it back and slides out. Theres not tools made just for the receiver. There are no tools needed specifically for the stereo. All you need for this tutorial is your receiver, the wire harness, the metal sleeve that comes with your receiver that goes around it, coat hangers, and a flat head screwdriver.

    Hi I brought a older alpine that was river as really Best Buy. I only found one used, I understand the 2 harness wireing got the right kit. but just notice the used radio it doesn’t have a casing. Just the radio and a harness out. Does that mean the new radio will be loose and can’t lock in? Can the old radio casing be used? And idea?

    • @goochthemooch1
      @goochthemooch1  5 лет назад

      All I used was the wiring kit, the model radio I had fit perfect with using the old stereo plastic guide that I screwed in up top of the radio. It was not loose at all, it was like it was meant to be.

    • @thomas4315
      @thomas4315 5 лет назад

      Ok, good the top plastic guild will hold it in place. I were thinking when you take it out youhad to put the tool in to unlock radio in the casting. That lock. Your useing that 2 side lock too?

    • @goochthemooch1
      @goochthemooch1  6 лет назад

      Watch My User All I bought was the wire harness for my year make and model then all I did was take the stock stereo out and on top of the stock stereo theres a white plastic thing screwed on to guide the stereo on the metal tracking that holds the stereo in place. Then I took my aftermarket stereo and it had a spot on it to screw the white plastic thing onto that, I lined that white plastic thing with the metal track and pushed the stereo back to where it looked good and that's it.

    • @goochthemooch1

      If you want to be sure your aftermarket stereo has a spot to screw it on to then buy the exact stereo I have.

      Ryan Fox u need the harness that plugs into the stock wires and makes the wiring easy by telling which wire goes where with colors or ur other choice is to clip the stock plug off and figure out the color code for the stock harness easy to do with google

    • @goochthemooch1
      @goochthemooch1  7 лет назад

      Ryan Fox I have a kenwood kdc-mp342u you can get them online and you can plug them right in to the existing wires but your better off getting a wiring harness.

      Che' Kennedy will it still work decently? I'm just looking for something I can plug an aux cord into

    • @goochthemooch1
      @goochthemooch1  7 лет назад

      Ryan Fox when I put in my aftermarket stereo in with the wiring harness it made my stock speakers sound way better but I don't know if that was the stereo itself that made it sound better or if it was the harness as well, but it shouldn't sound any worse without the wiring harness. another thing is without the harness there won't be matching wires, therfore you'll have to look up the wiring diagram for your exact year make and model and match the wires that way. harnesses are only 10 to 20 dollars and make it a lot easier.

      I'm not 100% for sure but when you look up harnesses and stereo accessories for Ford F-150s it shows 1986 through 1998 so I would say just give it a shot see if everything looks the same once you get the stock radio out if it does it should work

    • @chrisperry1756

      No its like the trim that surrounds the radio and ac controls.

    • @goochthemooch1
      @goochthemooch1  8 лет назад

      I didn't have any trim around my stereo all I did was pulled my stock one out and made it to where I didn't have to get any mount or do anything else other than taking the stock one out and mirror it with the aftermarket and use the trim that the aftermarket stereo came with to blend it.
