Regina is right. Daphne is so desperate for their acceptens that she is willing to be someone she's not.
Now that am 17 I finally understand the advice you don’t have to change yourself for other people to love you let them love you for who you are!
To this day I don’t understand how is it that a language that was born in the USA, is not taught in every American school as a mandatory class.

*sigh* They are not mandatory because ONLY deaf people should teach ASL, not hearing. Not everyone is deaf so it’s not easy to get deaf staff at all. Also, no “language” aside from English are mandatory, they’re electives. So it shouldn’t be “mandatory”, rather they should be offered.
It’s not mandatory because no specific language is mandatory. You can chose what you want to learn, we had Spanish French and German options. What they should have done is offer ASL as an option but they didn’t. And frankly, it makes sense. Since high school I’ve come across many Spanish speakers but only one deaf person ever. In 20 years. It’s annoying actually because I would love to learn ASL!
@@Fer-fy8dx I’m familiarized with that b******t argument of the “only deaf should teach it”, nonsense. Languages are for people to communicate. If I happen to know ASL and Im capable of hearing, there’s nothing stopping me from teaching it to whoever wants to learn it from me. It’s like telling a Spaniard that they can’t teach English, because they’re not British… BULL!!!!
I think it should be taught in American schools because it is an American language, born in America for Americans. That way, deaf people wouldn’t have difficulty working or communicating outside of their bubble.

Katie's accent is a bit more thick at the start of the show!
It's cause she is 'putting it on' I've heard her talk in real life in interviews she does not have a deaf accent. In reality she has Ménière's disease, which can cause fluctuating hearing loss.
+raecheer But the character's accent is not as strong as it was at the beginning of the show. I wonder why they decided to make Katie go easy on it xD
Cinthya maybe the producers or Katie thought that faking the accent was hurting her ability to act because she was focusing on the accent - Charlie Hunnam who is British claimed that when he was playing an American on a TV show. Or perhaps they thought it was insensitive to the deaf community?
+raecheer I don't think ir affects her acting. If anything it is part of her acting and part of the character. Hugh Laurie used a completely different accent when he played Dr. House and did amazing. So I don't think that's it. Maybe they just decided to go easy on the deaf accent because it allows the character to have more emotion when she speaks? Idk xD
I think her accent lighting up in the later seasons character wise because she started using it way more around people so naturally the accent would lighten. That what I thought

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice Regina signed “Hug” instead of “Love” at 1:37? Wouldn’t love be with two fists? Maybe the show was in a different ASL dialect but I remember seeing that clip when I was younger and being really confused about her saying “Let them hug you” because where I’m from we sign hug with two fists
Casey Greyson Yes I am learning ASL and I learned “love” as two fists. I just assumed it was another version but idk...

Shashara Sims because they are. At the start of the show they thought they were so much better than Regina and knew so much more even though they were ignorant.
@@SundaeMomi They were very ignorant and snobby. I am glad that Bay isn't like them. It shows what having money does to people's attitudes and how they thing they are better than people who struggle to make ends meet. I rather have people in my life who struggle to make ends meet because they tend to be better people because they know the real world and what it can be like. People who have money can live comfortably without having to worry until the money runs out and not know how to handle being poor.
They were. They were so snobbish and snotty towards Regina in the beginning, not to mention everyone and everything else from Daphne's side. They tried to change her for being deaf, they threw her into a hearing school bc they thought since she was biologically relayed to them, that they didn't think she was really comfortable at a deaf school. They bought her a car to judge the fact that her deaf best friend drove her around on a motorcycle. They threatened to take her away from Regina bc she was an alcoholic in recovery. They were so possessive and judgemental in the beginning that they should've learnt to understand them more

@@kenishiagreen I actuslly got into British Sign Language and got my level one certification in it :) I tried to get my level two but the workload was getting too much.

I thought it was incorrect to structure sign language sentences, the way you speak English sentences? 🤔
Some ppl, especially hearing or hard of hearing ppl would do a different structure which is called PSE where you use complete sentences. I’ve heard of at least 3 different ways of speaking sign language.

Don't really like this show especially Regina she held Daphne up high as her favorite and clearly did not hide it and barely showed bay any attention or love and that's her real blood daughter 🤦🏻♀️ but Katherine equally both showed them love as soon as Daphne came into the picture or she at least she tried a heck of a lot harder than Regina did...it gave me the weird impression that Regina only favoured Daphne more because she's Caucasian with blue eyes
Daphne is such a brat on this show lol. A good representation of a teenager in fact. Half the time I want to yell at her.

mshafer61 there was an auto accident that blew Daphne's hearing.
mshafer61 daphne contracted meningitis when she was 3, the doctors gave some kinda antibiotic that would save her, but possibly cause her to go deaf. That's how she lost her hearing and why she and Regina use ASL.

They are using so they can communicate so they can understand each other because one of them can't hear or speak if a person is mute or can't talk.
