I would love a follow up in 6 months and a year to see how many are still alive! My houseplants usually live for a short while (4-9 months) before dying. None would have died in the first week of this challenge so I'm curious to see if her brown thumb is actually green over time in keeping all the new plants alive :D
I would pay close attention to Buttercup's behavior in that tank because that will indicate how safe/comfortable it is for her. The plants above the tank can make it more difficult for oxygen to circulate. Betta fish are tropical fish and also need a water heater to keep their water in the 75F range. When buying plants for her, I would suggest either live plants or silk faux plants. Plastic plants are harsh on betta's fins and can cause serious damage. The plants will also not replace a proper tank cleaning routine. Her water will need at least a 25% change every week/every other week. Betta's can be tricky fish, but taken care of properly, she can live 3+ years depending on how old she was when you bought her.
Hey Lucy ! For your new fish make sure to do some online research on what objects are ok to put in Buttercups tank. Most of the time pet store employees don't entirely know what they're talking about and can offer advice and products that can be harmful to fish :(
Aw congrats Lucie. Female betas are the absolute best! They can recognize you from across the room amd enjoy bonding. I had one trained to eat from my fingers, jump out of the water, and swim through a hoop. (keychain ring). Good luck and please keep us posted about the plants. I want to go get a few now, if you can manage it with your job (s) than hopefully I can too. :)
I purchase my first plant last month. As in the first one I took the time to research so I didn’t kill it. She needs water once a week and indirect sunlight. Makes me desk feel like a nicer place to sit at. Lucie you are goals right now. I need more plants!
Something that m grandfather has inspired me to do is grow cacti. I went to Lowes and picked up all of the cactus and succulent buds that had fallen on the floor. Then I went home, planted them in egg cartons and tin cans, and now, almost a year later, they are all alive and growing well. One o them is even making buds of its own. It’s wonderful to see the greenery, low maintenance, and completely free.
sophie pierzala my mum drowned all of my cacti when I went away for two weeks 😩 I’d had them for years and they were doing so well and now they’re all dead ☹️
I'd love to see an update video in a month (and more afterwards) to see the progress! I kill every plant I own, so I'd love to see any progress for inspiration! I'm considering bringing plants to my workspace too so this is really inspiring!
Got my green thumb from my momma=) I was NEVER into gardening but when I moved out at 19yo my mom was like "here you mija" **hands me a huge Jade Pothos & 2 Amaryllis plants** & all I did was water them & they just never died lol a decade later I have a jungle in & outside of my apartment lolol Thanks for sharing!
I don't think it's normal to buy plants in a big lot like this. So does it matter? I just collected mine over a few years and I probably have about 20. I didn't even buy all of them, I went to an office where my mum works and a succulent was dying. I simply propagated this plant and it ended up with 5 plants and gave a healthy plant back to the office ☺️
It actually doesn't cost a lot. I have had 10 house plants at some point before and it all depends on where you buy your plants and how fancy you want your pots to be. I usually get my plants from a local farmer's market for an average of $4-6 each and they are decent sized plants (4 in pots). I get terracotta pots for about $3-4 each. I spent about $2-3 for 2-lb bags of indoor houseplant soil and about $5 on cactus/succulent mix. I can get about 3 decent plants, all the pots and soil mix for around $25. You just have to look around and explore a bit.
I have been growing mint, basil and french marigolds from seeds and they are doing so well! I need to repot the marigolds and the mint as when I repotted the basil it went from tiny leaves to full on massive leaves in like 2 days! I also have aout 5 flowers from the marigolds, I'm so happy.
Lucie your room is looking great after the makeover and also thanks for dropping this video just when I needed it because I just moved in a new place and was planning to have some plants around for a lively place...All the best to you Lucie with your plants.
I really needed this video! And I didn't even realize it. I lost my cat about a month ago. She was my baby and passed away from cancer. And I've been so down ever since. But watching this video made me realize I can have more indoor plants now. It has inspired me to fill my space with green things. I only had a few plants before because my cat would chew on them and many indoor plants are poisonous to cats. So thank you for the inspiration. It's a bit of sunshine coming back into my life.
+HMbee Maria from Bloom and Grow Radio Podcast (Lucie's planty helper for this episode) - so happy to hear this (and sorry for your loss) and hope my podcast can help keep you inspired and empowered to keep blooming and growing!
Hey Lucie! This is a personal preference, but I always recommend getting a natural soil so that you have less nasty stuff (lookin at you, miracle grow) getting in your space. I like to use happy frog, and typically suggest that when asked! (I work at a nursery). Hope that you enjoy your new plants!
Im a gardener and im working with indoor plants, this makes me so happy to see! I myself have 36 plants in my 32m2 apartment, and its amazing. It was a lot of fun to see you enter the world of plants, and I hope you've inspired some new people to join as well :)
I bought a ZZ plant (the real name is long and hard to spell so everyone calls it a ZZ plant) for my apartment, but stupidly forgot that plants need light to survive, so it wilted but I managed to save it and moved it to where it'll have some sunlight and have been nursing it back to health. Fortunately this particular kind of plant is like a cockroach and is almost impossible to kill.
I have one too!! I love them XD my plant lady says it thrives on neglect lol

This episode is my favorite! Because I live in the south in the middle of no where I have an outdoor garden but you have challenged me to bring more plants inside! Love you!
Five things you could do and are good for your fish is.... 1. Try to do a fish in cycle it is okay but fish less cycle is better. But since you already got it. 2. Try under water plants . 3. Might wanna get some friend snails to help you with the algea you might grow since it is in front of your window. 4. Might wanna get a heater if it is not reaching 72-75 degrees. 5. Try making diy hideouts Bounus: Do a video of Buttercup.
Lol everything that smells like anything emits "VOC"s.... from essential oils to vanilla to tomatoes to the herbs in your garden. Misused chem jargon aside, great vid!
I have become a really good plant lady in my old age. I love gardening and it has become my happy place. I’m hooked! Thanks for sharing your plant journey and all the great info! 💚🌿🌵🌱☀️
Aww... I loved this episode🐠🌵🌱 I have 5 plants right now, but back in my country I had a garden. Also, I had some cilantro and green onions plants. It isn't difficult but it do require some basic knowledge because they are living beings... When I take care of them it calms me down...thanks for all the links.
"I'm a busy mom" lol I'm dead XD Loved this video Lucy! I just got plants recently too and love it! Your outfits in this are also super on point 10/10 :)
I always liked having a lot of plants around me and my parents basically had a whole forest in our apartment when I grew up. Now I have a weird cat who will eat anything other than succulents and maybe a few cacti so I only have them now.
steph won't work for my cat sadly. My youngest one doesn't do it but my older Bengal just can't stop. Doesn't matter where I put it he will eat it unless I put it behind closed doors. My Bengals can jump much higher than most other cats and currently my older boy is sitting on our very high kitchen cupboards.
Wow. The most we had to do was wrap our potted palm trees in nets because when our current ones were little they loved climbing them (toppling them over). Luckily they haven't tried to eat anything except the cat grass we bought them...
yaay, welcome to the green family Lucie 💚💚 I started like a year ago in my rooftop and indoor too as a way of therapy and it worked. I hope you enjoy your journey 💚💚
A followup video after a month and then maybe six months would be great! Especially saying what was easy/hard, which plants survived, which didn't and so on so people like me, who constantly buy new plants hoping This One will survive and my kill streak will end, can get some inspo! Love this video and the one on ayurveda especially too!
I have lots of plants. Some I lost while learning, others survived and are looking beautiful. U never know unless u try. I like to buy small plants and learn how to take care of them. Keeps the cost down if I lose it. ☺
Wow, this has inspired me so much. I'm an environment and planet Earth lover. So I personally loved this episode. Could you do more eco friendly projects? Like 5 days of saving water? Thanks and keep living great😍
I really enjoyed this video. I'm a big indoor plant person. I've slowly been collecting mine over time though and currently have 28, but am going plant shopping this week so will have to get more.
I recently started growing some herbs from seeds......they are just starting to shoot, looking forward to seeing if they grow succussfully, may look into a grow tank after seeing yours
start with snake plant, mothers in-law tongue, aloe, rubber plant, water those only every 14 days and keep on window sill. spider plant , bamboo only need water in vase.
@@nycbklynrmp no plant has a set watering schedule. It depends on your climate the quality of your water, etc. Buy a moisture meter and water your plant when it needs it. They are only $8.

Great video, Lucie! 💃🏽🌿 I needed over a year to learn how to take a proper care of my plants and now I feel somehow connected with them, like babies. I can't imagine living in a place without any greens. Looking forward to the next episode of season 3. Keep up the good work 💁🏽♀️
I killed a lot of plants, but I've finally gotten the hang of it! I was always worried that they weren't getting enough water, so I ended up giving a lot of plants root rot. Now I have a water meter so I can tell exactly how much water they need. My plants have been doing great ever since!
Faux drainage (rocks and pebbles in the bottom of non-drainage container) is not recommended, especially if you’re a plant beginner. Your plants are more susceptible to overwatering!
start with snake plant, mothers in-law tongue, aloe, rubber plant, water those only every 14 days and keep on window sill. spider plant , bamboo only need water in vase.
+ferretchan Maria from Bloom and Grow Radio Podcast (Lucie's planty helper for this episode)- i have a whole episode on windowsill herb gardens on the podcast- episode 22! apple.co/2srZf7Z
This is really cool! Kudos to Lucie for stepping up to the challenge. Can we see a plant check-in similar to the bullet journal check-in? Also loooving the green velvet shirt from Monday.
I recently got my confidence back up about indoor gardening!! Thank you sooo much. You make this adventure even more of something I am excited I am getting into.
+fallonraeart that's why I started the podcast! To learn more and boost my confidence slowly and surely as I stopped killing plants! Caring for them is a marvelous thing :)
I used to be a plant killer too, until I bought an orchid. Best decision ever! Water once a week and can still survive even when I leave it for a whole month to go traveling.
I would just like to add that if you have existing animals in your home to make sure that if they happen to nibble on your plants that they will be safe. Plants are great, just make sure your critters are being watched out for on the new plant journey as well!
you should do one about being a betta owner! there is a lot about bettas people dont or misunderstand but they actually have really fun personalities. Also you going to need a heater for your fish they need very warm water.
I love the idea of having so many plants but I don't think your fish should be in such a small space. I've read about it somewhere that aquariums should be much bigger.
Joycelynn McCoy that's not true. Those small tanks for betas are actually not ok for them. I saw many videos by those who have them/ zoologist and they said those are usually too small. Some of those tanks are even roundish and that's also not the best for any fish.
Hey new plant parents!!! Experienced plant owner here and I just wanted to give you some advice, DO NOT use pots without drainage especially if you are inexperienced. Even with the lava rock at the bottom the water has no where to go and your plant are at major risk for root rot. if you find a really cute plant with no drainage you can either drill a hole or use it as a cache pot, which means just putting the nursery pot in the nice pot and emptying the water.

Her plants are most likely dead. Adding a 'drainage layer' to the bottom of a cachepot is not gonna work
@@emmathomson2584 Also repotting the same day she bought them but maybe she learns from her mistakes eventually

Best Living with Lucie in a while!! I love how genuinely excited she was about this challenge :)
These videos are so wholesome and Lucy is so positive, they’re really nice to watch after a long rough day
the real question: how much money did you spend on pots and plants all together???
Kelsey doesn't matter 😁 I know Buzzfeed gives producers a per-video budget of a few hundred dollars. I'm sure Refinery is the same way.
It actually does matter, especially for those people who are curious and interested in doing it themselves. So thanks for your non answer

This is really cool! Kudos to Lucie for stepping up to the challenge. Can we see a plant check-in similar to the bullet journal check-in? Also loooving the green velvet shirt from Monday.
+evie.b Very cute idea!!
I recently got my confidence back up about indoor gardening!! Thank you sooo much. You make this adventure even more of something I am excited I am getting into.
+fallonraeart Thanks for hanging out!
+fallonraeart that's why I started the podcast! To learn more and boost my confidence slowly and surely as I stopped killing plants! Caring for them is a marvelous thing :)
Great idea Lucie I really enjoyed this video
I used to be a plant killer too, until I bought an orchid. Best decision ever! Water once a week and can still survive even when I leave it for a whole month to go traveling.
I would just like to add that if you have existing animals in your home to make sure that if they happen to nibble on your plants that they will be safe. Plants are great, just make sure your critters are being watched out for on the new plant journey as well!
you should do one about being a betta owner! there is a lot about bettas people dont or misunderstand but they actually have really fun personalities. Also you going to need a heater for your fish they need very warm water.
By far my favorite episode! 🌱🌿🌴🌳🌲💚
+heathermercer Yay!! :)
Going down as one of my all time favorite Try Living With Lucie episodes
I need that two piece set she’s wearing at the end
I love the idea of having so many plants but I don't think your fish should be in such a small space. I've read about it somewhere that aquariums should be much bigger.
Yes, that little tank looked so sad!
Betta fish don’t need much space as long as it’s maintained properly
Joycelynn McCoy that's not true. Those small tanks for betas are actually not ok for them. I saw many videos by those who have them/ zoologist and they said those are usually too small. Some of those tanks are even roundish and that's also not the best for any fish.
This video was so inspiring and gave me some great ideas of things I should do this summer. Can’t wait for more!
+ellaengel That's amazing!
Thank you!❤️
+ellaengel that's amazing! I hope my podcast can continue to help you green up your life!
This so makes me wanna start an indoor garden!!
I have always loved plants and cant wait to implement that into my house
I want a green thumb too!!!!!
I love the Bloom and Grow Radio podcast!!!! :D
