No doubt! He's taking quite the liking to firearms.
@@BuffRANGE i mean, you have very strict and fair range rules, you are a fan of safety and you seem like a responsible dude. The kid cant have a better example for gun ownership!
@@marcomenabue7717 Thank you :D!
Man that SKS velocity should be what’s coming out of the 16 inch.. But, man that stuff is nasty when it hits,, it reminds me of ULY 8m3 “effect”
Usually 7.62x39 ammo velocity is from a 20 inch same as 5.56... keyword is usually
@@jorgesolis9468 Really because AK has been 16.3 ish inches since I can remember,, and most every velocity video I’ve ever seen has the x39 over 2300 ,, I’m guessing you mean test barrel length…
@@Jrh-rp7np yes really I think even hornady uses 20 inch for their 7.62x39 and in some rounds you dont gain alot of velocity because of pressure look at the 7.62x39 as you mentioned vs like 5.56 that loses 200-300 fps while the 7.62x39 only loses like 100 fps if even on going from 20 to 16 inch barrels
@@Jrh-rp7np yep they use 20 inch barrels for their sst bullet as do several others but same as 9mm and 45 9mm can gain like 200 fps in 16 inch barrels while 45 only gains 100 same story as with pressure low pressure rounds seem to lose less velocity per inch but gain less velocity per inch also another weird info bit is that 300 blk and 7.62x39 both have 2100-2200 from 7-9 inch barrels with 123-125 gr bullets and while 5.56 is sitting at like 2400-2500 fps so while 7.62x39 and 300 blk only lose like 200-300 fps from a 20 inch the 5.56 loses 700-800 fps from original 20 inch box numbers
Another scam is the 223 superformance match 75 gr bthp that boasts 2900 fps like that's amazing... until you see that they used a 24 inch barrel to get that velocity meaning it would likely be the same as other 75 gr 5.56/223 bullets from a 20 inch and so on
@@jorgesolis9468 dude,, I know it’s like been popular from some time to SBR 5.56 .., even the Military uses 14.5 and smaller in many applications … But,,I’ve always felt you lose sooo much velocity with 5.56,, I really don’t like going under 16.. I have the need for speed lol … If I’m going sbr I’ll go 300 blackout…
Looks like that 20"was way more consistent in velocity
Longer barrels generally work out better in the velocity department
@@striperking6083 talking about consistency in speed, not necessarily the amount of speed.
@@AlaskanBallistics complete burn will do that. the 7.62x39 runs relatively fast powders , near magnum pistol level powder speed for the relatively short barrels though but 18/20 work much better than the 10 and 16's. Check out the bolt action versions , they are impressive little platforms.
Very well done presentation. This ammo looks excellent. I’ve had good luck with AAC 5.56 and .308. I would love AAC to load .30 Carbine next.
I think the point of steel case (Russian) was the fact it was cheap.
Not sure AAC can match that, since it's much less volume (compared to Barnaul).
If that's the "case" (har har), it might have made sense to use brass anyway due to marginal costs.
How much does steel save per case, if steel case production isn't at-scale in first place? Chicken and egg.
Very valid.
Good questions
the point of steel case is that aks have an aggressive action so when it starts to get hot or if it’s over gassed it can rip a brass round in half and cause a pretty messed up malfunction
The AR15 WITH THE BANANA MAG JUST LOOKS SCARY AND SEXY AT THE SAME TIME
It feeds pretty darn well :D
Love how u gettin ur boy involved in the sport good on u brotha
Indeed, he loves being out and shooting.
As long as AAC 7.62x39 steel case ammo stays under $13 per box (for their FMJ ammo) then I'm a happy camper. For home defense I have a precious supply of Tula 124 gr soft point ammo as well as some PPU round nose soft point ammo that performs MUCH better than this Sabre Black ammo. I think PSA just needs to go to a simple soft point round and not do all the fancy ballistic tip stuff. Sadly even PPU now stopped selling their round nose 7.62x39 soft point ammo and now have a pointed soft point that probably has some kind of ballistic tip like this one. Very disappointing. That being said, this performance is not bad. It just could be a little better. Hopefully PSA will come up with some dedicated true soft-point hunting/self-defense bullets to put into their steel cased ammo. The old Tula SP ammo, in my experience, performed incredibly well on the hogs I shot with it through an SKS. I'd usually "pin" the shoulders and that round would just obliterate the shoulder and lungs.
100% agree. Ppu round soft point best 7.62x39 HD ammo
I hope they change the boxing.just do basic boxing to lower the ammo price. It’s ak not long shooting ammo. Ammo price should be below .40c.
Something I’ve noticed even with hand loads is 30 cal is just not super precise. Barnes 110 in 300 Cosby for me is 1.5 MOA then 208 Hornady subs is 2 MOA. It isn’t until I stuff a 168 grain in my 308 winchester that I can see 1 MOA and thats with 10 shots. It just isn’t a great projectile for precision. Now 6MM and 6.5 do a great job if precision is what you are chasing. Great video though.
Thanks!
how far are you shooting to get these results?
I hope PSA can get bulk ammo under .30c per round. Thanks for the review!
Haha yeah
100%
I think it’s 55 cpr right now, which is crazy. May as well buy the remaining massively inflated Russian ammo if it’s going to be that much.
Never gonna happen. Steel case wasn't cheap because the components were cheaper, it was cheaper because Russian/Eastern European labor is cheaper. Not to mention the exchange rate on local currency. That's not even taking into account the insane cost increases on the raw materials, exacerbated bt the constraints the wars in Ukraine/Israel are putting on the ammo supply chain.
Lololololol
You sir are a legend on YT. Thanks for what you do.
I appreciate that!
Дякую, цікаво, але як на мене замало швидкості, з 16" воно повинно виходити десь 2350 футів на секунду.
I agree. They should bump the velocity up :D
Between the less than stellar SDs (for reference Barnaul can rival stuff like IMI 77gr Razorcore SDs and is just low 'teens SD all day) and slower velocities (123gr should run about 2350 fps), it just ain't ticking the boxes.
Only upshot is you get a hornady sst loading for 0.55$ instead the usual buck+ whenever you find them in stock
Edit: Thanks Matt for reviewing this ammo
Are u ever going to test tela 5.45x39 ammo in a video ? I'm really interested to see how it chronos. Thanks
Tula or tela? Not being a jerk, I've just never heard of Tela.
@@rayxfinkle8328 Tela is the new cheapest stuff. It's corrosive, though, even though it says it isn't.
Thx for the video, I bought 12 boxes for a group hog hunt we have coming up
Please update us on the results!
These need a smidge more oomph
Are these Hornady SST’s but just a black tip? Asking because it looks similar in shape and weight . Wondering if Hornady sold AAC the slugs but in a different color tip.
Yes. Confirmed with AAC after this video. These are black colored SST bullets
2.190 is the recommended Hornady OAL which would put it on the cannelure. With high powder prices wouldn’t be surprised if seating it deeper and using less powder was the intent to make it fly past 2400.
@@BuffRANGE now if Hornady could offer the .224 75gr 'vmax' bullet they are loading in the AAC Sabre brand that would be nice.
@@BuffRANGE Interesting finding. Thanks!...and I have no doubt these will be plenty adequate for defense.
Do you know if VMAX & SST are the same thing?
@@ShastaBean Vmax has a thinner jacket, and the SST has a cannelure.
These look like they might be a decent Whitetail load.
what isn't?
Here for the gun show.
Very jelly of the weather there. It's very hot here.
It's like 95F this week here :O
Great testing as usual 👍 I wish AAC would improve those velocity averages across their ammunition manufacturing line... I know it's not the most expensive ammo for a reason, but paying over 80 cents+ for heavier 5.56 loads including the more expensive Sierra Matchking loads only to have accuracy issues because of inconsistent velocities is slightly disappointing... It's kind of a tough call between buying more AAC with less accuracy or spend a few cents more per round on of one of the many other available 69-77 grain loadings for better velocity consistency when longer ranges really show those shot to shot deviations... I really hope AAC dials this issue in while keeping prices similar as they grow in the market... I have my doubts, but still wistfully thinking. 😉👍
Half the price of Hornady and I expect it to be at a minimum 1800fps for expansion.
Sadly PSA won't ship to anti gun states (even though it isn't illegal). Would you be able to check ppu SP?
Love your work man.
The PPU 154gr SP? It works. Andrew tested it while back IIRC but let me see if he did short barrels
@@BuffRANGE ppu has 154gr?! I was talking of their 123gr sp. If such a 154gr exists then I need to see results out of the shorty
@@nomad155 who has the 124gr ?
@@BuffRANGE PPU (Priv Partisan) has 123gr SP. I don't recall anyone having 124gr SP atm. PSA won't ship to my state so I've seen Tula SP and Hornady being the "affordable" 7.62x39 ammo to get.
I was mistaken. The 154gr is the Tula, and the 124gr SP is PPU :D
Great video 🤘 Always need quality ammo.
Thank you!
Definitely weak for 7.62x39... Barnaul manufacture soft points would hit a cozy 2400+ fps out of a 16". Still, hard to argue with the results, especially since the price is competitive compared to current offerings after the ban. Now they just have to keep it in stock lol.
Thanks for the test.
Matt did that last one or so on the M59 pop a primer ?
Yes pierced the primer.
Ran around 80 of their fmj steel case through a sks. Looking at the spent cases the primer strike seemed really deep compared to the tula and igman i shot that day as well.
I asked them to look at the primer cup tolerance as I noted the same thing in addition to the 1 pierced primer in the SKS, and 3 in the BRN-180 on the FMJ test that's still pending.
The ammo is Boxer primer not Berdan like the Russian. Berdan was designed for fully auto applications from Soviet Block.
@@williamryan9195Berdan primers pre exist 7.62x39. It could be argued that because it’s boxer the seating depth of the primer
Could be the issue.
@@BuffRANGE I would like to see the answer on that. Seems like that could be an issue.
Hm. I wonder when PSA will start dimpling receivers into trunions and use swell-neck rivets on their AK's.
AK's were designed to be built that way for a real good reason. It's a shame because PSA could have the best AK's on the market.
If it’s an sst and not the cheaper Vmax I wouldn’t complain about the price so much since sst’s cost more to make, even buying bulk wholesale Psa probably isn’t making much on these, definitely growing pains on ammo qc, seeing pulled bullets and primed aac brass so there are some growing iaibd going on there
Indeed confirmed these are SST's :D
Thank you for testing this offering out! Definitely something i can get into

Great video, as usual!! Thank you sir.
You are very welcome
That’s awesome to see you getting your son involved in the outdoors and shooting sports. Way to go, dad!
So, will it be this or Hornady SST?
Looks like a good deer load, maybe out to 200 yards dependent on accuracy.
Meh, I'll stick with my combloc stock. Sorry, the advertised velocity should be out of a 16" barrel. Any slower is just BS.
Well there is also SAAMI vs CIP to contend with. SAAMI is 5K PSI less than CIP. But I agree it should be hotter.
Damnit! A little disappointed. My Howa mini action is a true .311" bore. Be nice to score true 7.62x39mm SP/PSP ammo more readily. Limited selection on bullets for reloading too.
I’m guessing with a good measuring device it’s probably .311”
I've been waiting for this review. You're doing the Lord's work.

Thanks for your quick answer!
GREAT VIDEO !

Ah! It’s finally out. Nice. 😎
Is .308 or .311 ?
.310” is what I measured :)
King!
You’ve done another fine review! Very scientific. Very entertaining.
Thank you kindly
Their FMJ rounds aren’t seated properly in the casings. The blade looks more consistent but aac come on! We need this ammo! I’ve had no issues but their FMJ is out of spec
From what they told me the Btip bullets are not loaded on their plate loaders so that could explain the better consistency with the SBBT ammo.
My favorite RUclipsr got my first 5.7 ammo from you
Black tip as excitement reaches new heights 😲🤤 followed by its a ballistic tip 😵🥺😭😶 excitement goes back down to living with Brandon as prez
Great review
Good stuff, Matt. I use a CZ527 and a Ruger #1 to test 7.62x39 for absolute accuracy potential. I do that with various other rifles to check all the semi-auto rounds I run. Is it perfect? No, but it can give you a better idea what the best case scenario is for your cartridge in question.
Nice presentation as always. Good to the the little man participating. Gingers forever!
Are they brass bullets? Or steal? Can’t use steal in California
Copper/brass. They’re Hornady SST, non magnetic.
On that SKS, if you attach the scope with electrical tape Tim Taylor style that qualifies you to be a sniper in Florida 😮Ya I said it!

Had 1 pierced primer.
Great review. Thanks for posting.

Niet Comrade, FMJ is fine!
Ammo is impressive tho. And 10.5 is best barrel length for the ak imo, needing to double the length to only add 250fps isnt worth the squeeze, but I’m glad you add it in for comparisons sake.
thank you !
Deer round
Very very good performance
American made steel case or was in imported for AAC?
This is American made steel cases

@@BuffRANGE nope, not me
@@killacamfooI’ll see if I can get some. Short on $$ since I have armor to buy this month
3:41 What's that rail mount you have there? Looks nice.
🙏🏼
Why do ammo manufacturers always use unrealistic barrel lengths for testing. We can see through the BS.
I’m pretty sure 20” is the common barrel length for testing since SKS exists.
Seems awfully anemic...😢
Relative to the brass case I tested it was right in line; however combloc stuff yes. Could be the SAAMi vs CIp difference, or the newness of loads and them wanting to carefully step it up?
It is but still very damaging on gel.
Total metal jacket is an interesting choice
My buddy had case neck separation on about a third of his AAC x39. Another guy blew up his Yugo SKS. Not hating on PSA, quite the opposite, but this line is brand new. As always, stay safe!
Woah, what's the lot #? Did they contact PSA? How did the SKS blow up?
Looks very nice.
Is this a copperwashed steel projectile? I have no AK's. I have a Yugo SKS, 2 PSA AR47 16", and an Alpha shooting sports 10.5". The pierced primer bothers me. Was the primer set in to depth properly? I have a some Wolf "mil-spec" with the green lacquer and purple sealer. I think some of the rounds the primer is set too deep. Only failure I have had with x39. I don't have the extra power hammer springs.
Nope. This is a copper jacket bullet. I think the cup tolerance needs to be looked at. I tested their 308 to pierce primers in their 16” AR10. I’ll have to test
More.
@@BuffRANGE have you discussed this with AAC?
Yep. Supposed to get a new batch here this week.
@@BuffRANGE Good! I really like PSA. Before I got into AR's I guess they had a learning curve. Probably is the same thing with ammo. I watched the PrAKtikal Nurse (small channel and he had feeding problems in his Chinese SKS using the duckbilled mags. The rounds were too long.
5:21 popped a primer?
Yep one pierced primer.
@@BuffRANGE It is very odd that this issue comes up with PSA in their guns, very curious if that was the gun or ammo, I would lean more likely the ammo due to PSA's history. Wonder if that will be the big issue with their first batches of ammo
@@zacharybatten I did just get this SKS and it has like 100 rounds through it. I did have 3 in the BRN-180 but that does have an extra power spring in it. I had a few pierced primers in 308 AAC in my PA-10 and AAC said those are different primers. I would point to the primers as needing a fine tuning :D
Is this video shadow banned or something? I never got a notification and it's not listed anywhere on your channel. Honestly don't remember how I found it 😂

PSA missing the point of the x39 round and its market. I’d say about 10% of ak shooters want this kind of ammo. As much as they love their AKs, their AR is likely their primary. All the majority of us want, I believe, is ammo that has all of the costs cut out of it even if that means the only QC they do is to make sure it’s not going to blow up our rifles. Give me 5 moa, dented cases, backwards bullets, no laquer coating or copper washed jackets. I don’t need any of that but every bit of the cost saving needs to be passed to the consumer or they won’t be buying enough to even make it worth continuing production. I can already tell they’re saving in the powder department with those velocities. I just want something cheap to shoot and hear that AK clack. The goal should be several cpr cheaper than the cheapest 223.
PSA is price gouging with this ammo.
Why is that ? How much is 7.62x39 Hornady SST?
So its not a true Black Tip steel core?
Defensive round called a black tip ODD
No, it's more like a VMax or SST.
It's a plastic, ballistic tip. Armor piercing 7.62X39 is illegal to import or manufacture thanks to Olympic arms making a 7.62X39 pistol back in the early 90s.
Correct. Just ballistic plastic tip.
Sks has killed its operator, suggest you think twice before even shooting one yourself, let alone your son. (If for some reason a live round gets loaded into another live round that is sitting in the chamber and failed to extract then it will slam fire and the brass will fly right into your head and kill you, it's happened before and clearly that sks was having issues so that's a blunder)
Did you watch the same video as everybody else here? Cauuse.. i dont think you did.
