I saw this in the theater with my parents when I was seven or eight (I think it must've been a re-release in the late '60s); I'm pretty sure they had no idea what it was about before we went. They were just big Reynolds/Curtis fans. I've always loved the theme song, altho it's rarely heard these days. The remake, "Switch", may not be so great, but IMO it's worth watching for Ellen Barkin's excellent comedic performance. She delineates a much more vivid portrait of "Charlie" than Debbie does in this one, and she's quite entertaining at it.
1964, doesn't seem that long ago, even though it's long before I was born, but to think that opening girl dancing all fun and crazy, letting it hang all out, she's actually the same age as my Grandmother! And for some reason I can't see her or any of her friends who I've played Mah Jong with, as being this type of young smokeshow personality, but I guess everyone was young at one point. On the other end, I can't in my wildest imagination, see that hot dancing girl as a old person either. Anyway just interesting to think of these people today and especially the differences in our worlds.
Came back to watch it again! I just love the story and of course the story in the 60s with Tony Curtis and Debbie Reynolds.
I so want to go back in time…❤🎉
Me too. I was age 9 then. It was great. Simpler & people were kinder. At least in my small town. Didn’t see this until years later.
Merry Christmas from Galveston
