One of the greatest English players ever. As a kid I loved watching him take the piss out of so called superstars of the time. Waddle was so elegant in his movement for a tall lad and he always looked like he had enough time on the ball to make a cup of tea. Such class.
He really developed into a world class player in his 30's, something "clicked" when he started to play for Olympique Marseille where he became a worthy successor of the "swedish Garrincha", Olympique Marseille star man Roger Magnusson who was Europe's best dribbler of the ball in the late 60's, early 70's together with Jimmy Johnstone and George Best. Waddle was a showman, an entertainer galore ..!
Amazing player, I am not english but England produced some technically gifted, underated players in the 80's such as le' tis, hoddle and waddle who they never trusted fully to make an impact on the international scene.
As a Scotsman I loved watching Waddle as a kid on Match of the day in the 80s and 90s, during the golden era of football. What a player, one of the greats for sure.
My favorite soccer player of all time. First time seeing Waddle play. I thought this dude is badass! His style and finesse was very unique. Chris Waddle was the "Total package" his dribbling skills like no other. He would breeze by defenders like they weren't even there. To the point where I'd start laughing 😀His pin-piont passing with the inner and outside of his foot was awesome. He was allowed to play all over the field. Why confine a player who can do it all right? So many spectacular goals. That one where he flips the ball over Bats head and heels it in is classic. Also where he nutmegs the referee and scores a rocket shot in the left top conner. He played for the crowd. A total showman of the game. The best to ever do it #1 in my book.
Im French and i remember him very well when he played for OM, he was exceptionnal, what a showman! I used to watch England at times just to watch him play
I'd forgotten just how good Chris Waddle was! Definitely one of the best players we've produced and often goes under the radar when we talk about England's best-ever players. Such a shame that he's sometimes remembered for his penalty miss, than his fantastic career. He was in the best England team we've ever had since 66 and should have won the World Cup. A class act.
Magnificent. And for such an elite player he played for some very interesting teams, as well. A real range and spread of clubs in stature and style, from the aristocrats of Marseille, who back in the start of the 90s were a real European powerhouse who would no doubt have continued to be for much longer, and would no doubt would have kept players like Waddle but for the terrible aftermath of the terrible decision to cheat their way to a European Cup championship victory, down to the likes of Bradford City right at the end of his career, and now, and to the best of my knowledge he is STILL playing football at the age of around 60 for a very tiny local team. There are videos of him scoring some ridiculous goals even at his current level and current age, if you look for them you can find them.

Nice compilation of the Waddler, it was a shame that Spurs sold Hoddle and Waddle but we can be proud that it let our continental European friends experience and learn from a more skill & flair based brand of football! ;-)
Imagine Waddle at Tottenham today, he'd be on 200 grand a week and making Kulusevski, Johnson and Werner look like Sunday league wingers. The really is a lack of individual brilliant wingers in the game today and Waddle was a one off, what a player he was.
Both Hoddle and Waddle played proper football when the English still played kick and rush. That mullet is classic! By the way, great choice of music, The Stone Roses, "Love Spreads".
This shows your ignorance of the English game. You had players from Trevor Francis, Liam Brady, John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Mat Le Tissier and the brilliant Laurie Cunningham to name but a few. Most of them were applying their trade for big European giants. The English game has always had players of that calibre. They just never had the managers, with the exception of Venebles and the great Clough.

Crazy to think in that generation England had Waddle, Gascoigne, Beardsley and John Barnes too. No wonder I never got a game for England. I mean, sure, I was 18 and not even English. All the same. I'll never forgive them.
In fact the one person who did was Venables who if he had got the job in 1985 would have played the two of them as old inside forwards, off the flanks where they could have wrought havoc together with Bryan Robson supporting in midfield and Lineker on top...
@@kailashpatel1706 I read a story that Venables did try to get Waddle in his team when he became the manager. But sadly, Waddle was injured that time and it did not happen. Crazy stuff. I just watched a video of Dragan Stojkovic picking a favourite XI from the footballers he played alongside. Eight of the starters were, unsurprisingly, Balkan players. His brother Alan was on the books at Anfield. Wished we'd had them both.
No doubt

One of the greatest wingers in late 80s early 90s. Still best in England late on for Sheffield Wednesday. Absolute top class player.

England has never replaced him in the national team. A genuinely two footed genius. Would love to have him at Spurs atm, omg he’d be amazing!
