Chris was in a bluegrass band called the Steeldrivers. He was in a band called Jompson Brothers. He’s written for a who’s who in the music industry and is very well respected. His wife sings harmonies in most of his recordings and she just gave birth to their fifth child on mother’s day. I hear BB King, Al Green, Ray Charles when he sings. He has a couple collaborations with Justin Timberlake. He won country artist of the year, although I wouldn’t really consider him country. If you’d like to listen to other recordings of his, I’d recommend Tennessee Whiskey, I Was Wrong (both live at Austin City Limits), Death Row, What Are You Listening To, Broken Halos, Nobody To Blame, Barely Alive, you really can’t go wrong with his stuff. He’s a once in a generation talent.
Ummm 5th child ?! Gee I wonder why?!!! Those two make beautiful music together. They are like our Johnny Cash and June Carter! Love them . I was saying they were going to make more babies! I was joking! But I guess its not a joke!
No. No. No. this is definitely country. This just isn’t MODERN country. This is real country music. Genuine. A lot of old country music was similar to this, this is genuine real country.

He's a country boy who grew up in small town Kentucky, singing in church and school choirs. Influenced by blues and old school country music He began writing songs for others and his wife, who is his back up singer, convinced him to sing his songs. The rest is history. If you like this you'll like Barely Alive.
I love that black folk love this man. It just goes to show that true soul knows nothing of skin colour. It's all about the pain and how we choose to show it. All the love and best to all of you.
I have yet to see a Black person react to Chris Stapleton and not immediately love him. But it’s not surprising- Chris takes a huge amount of influence from black singers and black music in general. He sings the blues. It might be called Outlaw Country now, but it’s all based in the blues. And blues is black music. The soup in his voice comes from black music. And Chris is a humble man too- he acknowledges his influences and respects them. That’s so important. And I think it’s why he’s so damn good. You can tell he grew up singing along with artists like Otis Redding (who is actually the singer I’d compare him to the most) and James Brown. So with all that in mind, is it any surprise that black people love what they hear? Who wouldn’t? I’ve seen people who are adamant that they hate country and everything about it- but get them to listen to Chris, and they change their tune so quickly. “I think I’m a country fan now!” Nah, you’re just a Chris fan, and that’s alright.
As of 2018 Stapleton has written over 170 songs, including these Number 1's: Kenny Chesney's "Never Wanted Nothing More", George Strait's "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" and Luke Bryan's "Drink a Beer". He's also written songs for Joss Stone, Adele, Sheryl Crow, Darius Rucker & many more. He has 3 Grammys. He doesn't use any special effects when he performs live and the recording studio doesn't fiddle with his voice. His LIVE performances are better than his recorded songs. Seems impossible but TRUE. Check out these LIVE performances: "Tennessee Whiskey" (Austin City Limits); tribute to Prince 6 hours after his passing; "It's a Man's World"; "Fool Me Again"; "I Was Wrong" (Austin City Limits); "Barely Alive" acoustic performance; "Nobody's Lonely Tonight" Jimmy Kimmel Show. EXCEPTION would be "Death Row". I actually haven't seen it performed live. But recording is stunning.
I saw this comment and had to respond. My gf insisted I listen to his album. She was like he's amazing. I listened. Wasn't really impressed. Good singer but just blah. I listened to him live and was like.... Holy shit. He can't sing. He can sang. His albums do a disservice compared to him live.
I only discovered Chris a few weeks ago. I was won over at first hearing Tenness Whiskey and bought four of albums at the same time and wasn't disappointed. Great voice, great guitarist, great mix of country, blues, and rock. I'm a fan for life!!!
You have to check out the best vocalist from down under John Farnham singing the Beatles song "Help" live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. His vocals are crazy and he's an entertainer, the way he interacts with the crowd is awesome. John Farnham is an Aussie icon.

Great reaction. I Was Wrong is terrific, Death Row is haunting and so is Fire Away. Chris with Justin Timberlake, live at the CMA's singing Tennessee Whiskey/Drink You Away brought the house down. Chris is legend material, but still very humble.
Chris is from Kentucky. He started as a songwriter and his wife told him he should start singing his own songs. He sang with a couple of bands then branched out on his own. This man has been a songwriter for top singers for years. He was a part of two other groups that I know of, The Jompson Brothers, and the Steel Drivers. He is a once in a lifetime kind of talent in my opinion. A few of his best in my opinion is I Was Wrong, and Fool Me Again, Death Row is awesome as well. He has stated before that Al Green was a big influence along with BB King. He's an amazing talent.
He is Phenomenal, everything he does is so dang good! He is a songwriter and his wife encouraged him to sing his own songs. Try Tennessee Whiskey with his wife Morgane singing harmony. They are pure joy!
Straight blues with a hillbilly/country twist. From Kentucky to near you. Just seen him lastnight in Madison, WI. Could be the best live performance ive ever seen.
Before his solo career he was in a couple of different groups, but much of his early career was spent as a songwriter for Sea Gayle Music publishing house in Nashville.
Chris could sing the phone book and make it feel like you experienced something special. He's thought of as being his own genre of music because he can sing country, bluegrass, rock and the blues and a lot of his songs are a fusion of all of those. I'd recommend Tennessee Whiskey from Austin City Limits, his performance with Justin Timberlake at the CMA's-back to back songs and it brought the house down. Death Row...I could go on and on.
Awesome song to be introduced to chris. You can just about listen to ANYTHING from chris and be impressed. I personally recommend for your next experience to try I was wrong live at austin city limits or what are you listening too. Really enjoyed this reaction. Thank you.
What makes Stapelton unique is he is for real, the music , the voice, yes the soul, gets drum into following, becoming one. His wife of many years convinced him to break out on his own, and she is his harmony, in life as well as in songs, but is a recording artist in own right. Was a first impression. by a man who had recently lost his son, the song was "Broken Halos". Life has tried to harden this old heart but to see and hear this man sing , and see that mans impression and appreciation shows lifes got to have soul. Like I said Stapleton is real deal, needs no fancy Mike or digitizing of voice or music. Training, you can train all your life, but some are born to be great.
Chris is from my home state of Kentucky, near Lexington. As others have said, he was a successful songwriter before he started making a name for himself as a singer. You also should see their duet at the 2015 CMA Awards. They did 2 songs, "Tennessee Whiskey" and "Drink You Away" (gotta see both), they blew the roof off the place. Really enjoyed your reaction!💙
