Full info:: www.exosphere3d... This animation is based on all currently available data concerning the US Airways Flight 1549 crash landing on the Hudson River (Cactus 1549). Satellite imagery, elevation models and robust GIS mapping methods are utilized to create a vegetation model, terrain model and ground clutter (3D buildings). Of all available audio tracks, only two are used, La Guardia Tower and New York TRACON Departure controller position. Radar data as well as the onboard Flight Data Recorder are utilized in constructing the flightpath of the aircraft.

a.k.a. Brace for Impact, Miracle on the Hudson
No matter how many times I watched various versions of this emergency landing, I am still amazed how calm everyone was during the whole ordeal. These is the best bunch of professionals we've ever witnessed.
Unlike how they portray things in the movie.
"Got any ideas?"
"Actually, no."
Excellent CRM.
True. That is beautiful.
Not a good situation when pilots of this caliber have no ideas.
@@rpmiracle actually it also means they both knew they did everything they could to better the outcome and there’s nothing else they can do that they think of to better the situation.
@@LiamHolloway What’s your point?
@@rpmiracle you said this is not a good situation when pilots have no ideas. I’m saying this wasn’t a bad situation as both pilots knew they did everything they could do better the outcome and they’ve done everything they can. Might of not worded it correctly.
uh what a view of the Hudson today.
Wanna see it up close?
hahaha!!!
Put your swim trunks on boyz
Lol
that was a goo one lol
TOO CLOSE!!!
"uh what a view of the Hudson today"
It's like real life foreshadowing.
Its called also Mental Fixation. You will go where you like, not where you are supposed to go, when you are under heavy stress. But pilots are supposed to be stronger than that. Dam..
LGA runway 13 approach was on his left side and he was cleared to head there by heading 220, but instead he chose the freezy hudson river because it is bigger and longer than LGA runways..
@@JumboCod91 great comment
@@landonhernandez8529 Bullshit. Read my responses..
@@JumboCod91 Bigger airplanes have bigger wings.. Did you know that??. Those twin airliners can glide even better than many small airplanes due speed. Most at over 2 miles per 1,000 feet altitude. Knew that?? They need more runway to stop, but they glide better than small airplanes..
they are not designed to stand a crash land on water better that is another lie. He wanted the river from the beginning because it was an easier approach requiring less precision. Coward wanted to do the easiest approach. 19,000 hours doing mild maneuvering can spoil you into doing the mildest maneuvers, even to the wrong place, but milder to a disaster.
Sully Soily could reach LGA easily if he didnt keep going away at 200 knots for 35 seconds instead of turning back like a real pilot could within 17 seconds. That is what a brave pilot could do, not just head to a one mile wide, 5 mile long river disregarding it was freezy and could kill all.. Sully got Soilly and went to do the easiest maneuver for him. The Liberal USA Media wanted a hero. He was only lucky instead.
Then he started the many lies to the press and ignorants of EFATO Maneuvering Pipipilots in UsA. Like saying that manhattan skyline was on his way. That is a HUGE LIE. He was over the Bronx..
where they fly over to runway 13 all the time. HE LIED TO YOU, DUMMY..
Ditching on freezing water was easier for his little balls.. Thats it. He didnt think about the passengers drowning in that water, but in doing the easiest kind of approach FOR HIM..
You been fooled and lied for over 11 years, Wake up and Man Up
Sully wanted The Hudson from the very beginning.

That is really amazing 3d rendering, and of course fantastic team work. That flight crew definitely deserves all the credit they were given for safely landing that plane.
Amazing that there were no major injuries... Just amazing
“Attention passengers, this is your pilot speaking. I really hope you listened to the flight attendants instructions about emergencies before takeoff because it’s time for a pop quiz”
YAY POP QUIZ
haha! glups!!
At 5:59, as Sully says “we’re going to be in the Hudson”, you can hear the warning alarms going off in the cockpit
I am 35 and never flown in my whole life. However, I am an obsessive fan of flight sims. I understand flight a lot more than your average frequent flyer. I just seen this recreation for the first time today, and realized the tremendous tragedy Capt Sully averted. What an agonizing decent.
I was fixated on the screen for the whole clip. They were trully fortunate to have him as a pilot. Good job, Sully!
1549, Splash on the Hudson.
I love how Capt. Sully says, "We're gonna be in the Hudson," in the same, casual manner as a friend would say to another, "I'll meet you at the bar."
I agree - a great demonstration of "aviate, navigate, communicate". Hats off you you & your fellow aviators who remain perpetually prepared for the off-nominal while making the nominal look so easy on a daily basis. Blue skies...
How can someone stay so calm and collected when uttering "We're going in the Hudson"? Wow. Talk about nerves of steel and self discipline! Absolutely amazing.
Absolutely incredible. Amazing how calm and controlled Sully sounds on the radio, too.
Great animation! Does well to understand all the players in action. THANK YOU!
Shows how fast he made the decision on a waterlanding.
I'm a B737 Pilot for Continental Airlines (Now United). It's a sobering video to watch. My hats off to the crew...including the flight attendants...great job in dealing with this type of crisis in such a short time.
Just came back from theatre, "Sully". Oh my God, they've done it right! Great movie, great reconstruction and, of course, amazing crew and rescue people. Have a safe flight everyone!
Yes Just watched it like minutes ago. Great movie. Sully is a hero
They added some stuff that wasn't actually said in real life
That was awesome! At no time did Capt. Sullenberger say "Oh shit!", which I definitely would have. What a cool customer. The ATC guy was just as cool. Amazing recreation. Thanks!
The captain was like nah I'm not gonna talk to this stupid air control guy I'm goin in the hudson
Jeff Skiles the first officer said "oh shit" but he's just as big a hero as sully
I don't think he could have handled that situation any more perfectly. What a guy!
Alec
nope.yep
he could've done it in July
@Axel Smith Only half the simulations where pilots instantly turned around (because they had psychic powers that told them exactly what was wrong) succeeded. These pilots were also briefed ahead of time on the exact maneuvers they had to do to optimize their trajectory. In the case of failure, everyone on board dies, and people on the ground possibly die as well. It is fact that Captain Sullenberger made the most optimal choice in this situation.
So I ask you: Charged with what, exactly?
@Axel Smith No. Sully can't because he knew that this plane can't reach the runway. He can't land to the nearest airport also.
*Captain*"...what a view of the Hudson today..." *First Officer* "...yeah..." LOL little did they know they were going to get an even better view than that!
"Let's go have a closer look!"
amazing self control. you can hear the tower start to panic and the captain keeping it brief and calm. "unable", "cant make it" "we're unable.." like he's refusing a cup of tea :) respect
Many thanks to the reconstructor for this.
It was awesome to vicariously experience it.
Just wonderful. Thank you.
Kudos to those involved in the safety of all.
This man has set the standard for "impossible" in every piloting manual for the next century or two.
I know it's what they're trained for, but it's still unbelievable to me that they can remain so totally calm when facing this sort of disaster
Agreed, I've watched enough "Aircrash Mayday Confidential" disaster porn to have at least learned one thing, don't try to get out of a bad situation by risking something far worse: accept your REAL options and make the most of them - however ugly, they're all you've got.
This really shows you what the pilot, crew and passengers went through. Amazing!
This is the perfect good example of "aviate, navigate, communicate"! He really knew what was the most important thing to do at the moment.
This is one of the best animation done for flight 1549
That was absolutely fabulous and left nothing to the imagination. Well done to whoever put this together!
Stuart (Scotland)
Control tower: You can land in the Hudson or New Jersey.
Pilot: ... Hudson it is.
Now, that pilot is one cool dude. I want him on my next flight. And don't forget the guys who made the video, great work.
Watching this 11 years after the incident and it's still amazing the professionalism of Capt Sullenberger and First Officer Skiles. So so grateful they knew better than risk trying Teterboro.
Sulley "We're going to be in the Hudson"
NY Departure "I'm sorry.... say again Cactus?" lol
Patrick Harten as well, the controller for NY Departure
Amazing... both the actions of the pilot and this incredible reconstruction of the flight! Wow!
great reconstruction.. thank you for all the work you put into this!
@overtonphoto
True. I´m most impressed by how calm and on the job everyone stays. You´d never guess how close they are to disaster and nearly 200 deaths. Love the professionalism.
Good job on this video! I can't believe how calm Capt. Sullenberger is. All those lives saved!
Thank you for making this. A lot of time and effort went into this. Thank you.
Total professionalism from the crew, both on board and on the ground. Sully was obviously amazing, and the flight crew got them out safely. Amazing.
he made an awsome landing. I think the fact that he kept his frontend up and the wings level is what saved allot of lives.
this would be my reaction...
"whats your status?"
"AGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! AGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!"
I've seen several recreations and this is the best one.
chris, good comment, the trouble is that scale is kinda difficult when you start talking about what can be seen with the human eye. this is definitely something that could be developed further and would be best done with the input of some wildlife experts as well as a pilot vision expert. they are approximately correct in this animation but i did not focus much energy on this aspect of the reconstruction.
This is a terrific rendering of this
This was probably caught by other folks that commented, but the text of the controller where it said, "everyday"........he actually said, "have a good day", which is common lingo when someone is leaving that frequency.
Sounds more like everyday. Maybe he was hot-miking?
That is amazing. Goes to show what training can actually do. I admire the flight control tower work as well as the pilots. This was a good news story.
It makes me cry too... Just wonderful!
this flight was all over the news but its cool to watch it and see just how well he handled it
Captain Sullenberger: my aircraft
First Officer Skiles: your aircraft.
I just love it...makes me cry everytime I hear this story! Thanks for posting this reconstruction Exosphere3d.
I'm a SouthWest pilot. Sully did an amazing job. we have a checklist we have to go through for this situation. the "ditch switch" is toward the end of that checklist. coming from just 5,000 ft. they didn't have time to complete the checklist. that's why the aircraft took on water and sank so fast. the "ditch switch" closes vents and will seal the aircraft .
the captain did indeed declare a mayday, however the first part of that transmission was "stepped on" by simultaneous transmission by the controller, so you don't hear it on the ATC recording. it only shows on the ATC transcript.
Wow! Great animation! An amazing feat by both Cpt and FO!
Very nice reconstruction
As a former Air Traffic Controller I could really appreciate the professionalism all around. Notice no one got rattled. The controller still handled his other traffic. Kudos to all.
Great video! Shows what a busy place the cockpit is during an emergency.
If I were to ever meet him, I’d tell him he was great at thinking on his feet and that he has my respect for sticking that landing.
Airline Pilots are trained to keep an even voice, never to show any negative emotions like fear, etc. It is part of the job, keep passengers calm, even if you are so scared that are taking bad decisions or flying bad. I teach Forced Landings on take off to all my students, never skip them. I had pilots with great voices, making huge Panic Mistakes, to the point i have to take over to save myself.
ATC, Sully and F/O did a fabulous job !
Fantastic re-creation - great work
Amazing video exosphere3d - keep up the good work.
The NTSB ran a series of tests, to see if Flight 1549 could have returned safely to their choice of LGA, either runway 13 or 22, or TEB runway 19. The test pilots were fully briefed on the series of events and maneuvers. The test pilots were only able to return successfully to either airport in eight of 15 attempts. The report noted that these test conditions were unrealistic: "The immediate turn made by the pilots during the simulations did not reflect or account for real-world considerations."
I would lik to give praise to Captain Sullenberger, his first officer, the cabin crew and air traffic control for saving all those people. Well done!!
Wow nice video! From the action of between the ATC to the action of the flight, it's absolutely astonishing! But it sounds kidda funny that at the very end of the video when both pilots pay all their attention on the ditch, the ATC controller seems monologue lol no doubt, exceptional video!
Sweet animation and I really like the addition of the voice recorder's content.
Stunning animation - amazing Captain!
"Unable." Talk about chilling statement!
First officer Skiles was money.
That was amazing. They really need cameras on the planes, in the cockpit, in the tail, on the wings, and at the end of each airport runway. Why is the NTSB so far behind the times?
"Declaring an emergency" is a very specific term in aviation. It activates several procedures. The pilot has his pick of runways, and all neighboring aircraft stay away from him. Once a runway has been selected, emergency response will be dispatched there.
Terrific recreation.
good job.........this is the best recreation on youtube
you are correct, in the engineering simulator runs at airbus, several of the attempts to return to the airport were successful.
actually, in the first radio call sully made after the bird strike, he said "mayday", but it was blocked because of simultaneous transmission by the TRACON controller. he never did say the word "emergency", though considering the flow of communications, one could surmise that the controllers could ascertain this from the phrases spoken.
my favorite thing is that he did not sound scared, he sounded all calm like he has been through this a thousand times
Minor error on video at .43 seconds, it relates Zulu time as being 15:34 and local time as 3:25 which mean the same thing. Actually Zulu time (Greenwich Mean Time) is 5-6 hours ahead of EST (Eastern Standard Time, the local time). Zulu, or Greenwich Mean Time, is accurately time coded in top right of screen as 20:24:54 (8:24 pm GMT)
Very well made reconstruction, good work
Thank you for this excellent presentation. Very well done!
amazing. i had no idea they started turning to go to the other airport.
brilliant decision to stay
i suppose i should clarify more, the mayday only shows in the text fields because it was transcripted from the cockpit audio....it is NOT hear by the controller at any time, though sully and jeff had no idea the controller never heard those words.
This is not FSX for those people wondering. It's an animation made with Exo Sphere 3D.
I like how the ATC is giving Sully every possible runway to choose from. But I think Sully had already decided that the Hudson was the safest bet.
At 3:07, roughly 30 seconds before the plane collided with the birds, Captain Sullenberger says, "What a view of the Hudson today" ... wow
Really excellent production. Thanks very much!
@afgrocks123 he got confused at one point because was dealing with this and still directing multiple aircraft in NYC airspace.
a true professional pilot. Staying calm is key to these situations and remembering his training. And not being drunk.
Its called discipline , its not God but its Gods given
I'm feeling that I have to point out that you are correct in that 4 out of 4 pilots were able to return and land at LaGuardia while knowing that the incident would happen and that the engine would not be able to be restarted.
When given a 30 seconds delay to account for for reaction time, attemts to restart engines and time to to get a grip on the situation, all 4 pilots crashed.
Captain Sullenberger's skill and cool head made all of the difference. He's a genuine hero, and a fine gentleman.
im no aviation expert, but i would be willing to bet that in the simulator, the pilot immediately reacted to the bird strike by turning towards laguardia and teterboro. its a test, they can do it over if they failed. the real pilots only had one shot, and they had to be sure they made the right decision. in the end, they made the absolute best of the situation and saved everyone.
@cyro8 The only "textbook luck" is the kind that happens when you're ready to take advantage of it, and Sully was someone who spent 42 years getting ready for it, training hard, investigating accidents, working the simulators, doing a LOT of emergency drills, and training others for emergencies. He made sure he was ready, and that was NOT luck. That was hard work and a lot of skill.
For the rest of you, this is a specially made 3D animated reconstruction, not a game or simulator.
Damn bird strikes! This pilot is amazing, the loss of life would have been horrific had he continued to the emergency airport! Man this is what legends are made of.
Excellent animation and reconstruction/synchronization of Air traffic control and cockpit audio! Too bad there's no passenger compartment audio to overlay!
Really a superior job by this graphic artist.
Wow. That was really cool. I saw it on the new but now I could really understand how it must have been so scary for the captain and the passengers. Thank goodness the capt. made a decisive decision and it all worked out. Great to see this after the terrorists and the airbus crashes.
0:40 20:24:56 UTC or Zulu (3:24:56 pm Eastern Standard Time). 15:25 and 3:25pm is the same time but Zulu and local time can't be the same except you know where.
Great re-creation!!
@syrianking2009 Hello, sorry this is not a simulator or a game, it is a reconstruction using exophere3D which is used to render images and not as a simulator.
Brilliant simulation. I was trembling while watching it!
@porthole966
"3D" refers to the graphic representation in three dimensional space even though the image you view is not in "3D" (stereo) like movies in the theaters now.
Skillfully & Tactfully made!
This was awesome, thanks for the detail!
12 years ago today...what a hero!
Nice job on the animation!!
Actually, I just watched a documentary on this 10 minutes ago. The pilots were NOT able to land at the other airports in time, when you take into consideration decision-making time. Even if they made the decision to go to one of these airports immediately after the strike, the simulations showed there was only a 50 percent chance of them making it.
Terrific simulation. I liked the lines "You got any other ideas?" "Actually not" at about 6:52.
WOW HOPE ALL PILOTS ARE THIS CALM
